  1. After watching that game I was impressed, but a little worried about the INTs. Then I checked and he's 15th all-time at avoiding them http://www.pro-footb...perc_career.htm Its on like a mofo
  2. Need to be good at the most importont position in sports
  3. When we got Orton I watched a lot of his games, and thought he's gotten better as his career went on I liked everything about his game except it seemed he threw too many INTs But I checked, and he is 15th all-time at avoiding INTs http://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/pass_int_perc_career.htm I think there is a good chance he could lead the Bills to the playoffs
  4. I dont feel like that level of info is normally known by outsiders. I can add a little info on extra work though because I went to about 10 practices this year. It was common after practice to see Tuel and Manuel taking turns throwing to certain receivers against air. I never saw Manuel do this without Tuel. I don't remember seeing Thad do it
  5. At least in theory, part of the motivation could have been helping Tuel clear waivers for the practice squad
  6. You may be right, but it struck me as different tone than the others in that PC. Whaley was much more in "sell" mode. Also, in general January was a more optimistic point for most fans, compared to now, for right or wrong
  7. Tryin to offer the best summation of everything I heard and have been paying as close attention as anyone probably. I may not be the best at it, but I've got no dog in the fight, and thought it might be worth posting. If you listen to that year end conference, Brandon does say that "try to see marked improvement" pretty much word for word, doesn't that seem a strange way to put it if you had confidence? I could be wrong obviously, but this is the way things seem to be leaning even without considering that press conf
  8. I'll throw my take in the ring. I suspect Marrone is the one most attached to EJ. And Brandon is the least. Marrone demands loyalty to EJ in the players, hence stevie and woods in doghouse. Could be a primary resentment the players have That is what these reports are adding up to, along with the year end press conference where Brandon did not sound confident in EJ at all compared to Whaley and Marrone. That was where they were all supposed to be declaring their all-in-ness, but Brandon's words were "we're going to try to see some marked improvement next year". Stuck out to me
  9. Out of all 116 QBs that played this preseason We had three in the bottom 7 (Thad, Dixon, Palmer) Supports the idea that it's difficult to play with our 2s http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/stats/playersort/nfl/year-2014-season-pre-category-passing (Click "all players" and the "all" button at the bottom, and click "rating" to sort by rating)
  10. EJ always plays with 1s against 1s, or 2s sometimes Tuel always plays with 2s against 2s, or 1s sometimes I have a suspicion our 2s on offense are worse relative to most 2s, than our 1s compared to 1s. Don't know it to be the case, but it could explain some puzzling things like Thad regressing
  11. I think the gamer theory went out the window with the bad PS game performances (which mirrored practice). Now I suspect coaching and/or bad 2nd team offensive talent, for example - hate to say it - Kouandjio Edit, sorry I didn't totally read your post, looks like you are suspecting coaching too, only from the players ability to handle it side. That could be, but Im still wondering about the coaching itself
  12. Watched on slow-mo, he had to jump pretty high and almost caught it, but dropped it trying to land while turning his head to see where the LB was, it looked like. But there was only one angle and it was the far side of the field
  13. Massacre was the guy who tweeted a week ago that the bills loved Lewis' practice and was ahead in the backup competition
  14. And Marrone agreed too. There is a John Murphy show interview where he talks about going to Tallahassee and knowing Manuel had "It" (his words) the first time he saw him
  15. Good question,I know Chris Brown talks pretty often about seeing it. Has had multiple blog posts and articles about it, compared to zero about Thad as far as I know. Preseason stats are not as good as last year, but the degree of difficulty may be higher. Last year he didn't have to play with Kounandjio. He had a couple excellent hard throws last game including a 25 yarder. 90 yards in the last 4:49 is not bad, with both drives ended by protection breakdowns
  16. Puzzled too. Maybe Tuel's improvement affected him, or Downing had him doing things that interfered with his game? Dunno, but there has to be some reason, it was too much of a contrast IMO
  17. Stats from the 3 preseason games so far Player Att Comp Yds Comp % Yds/Att TD TD % Int Int % Rating Jeff Tuel 31 21 146 67.7% 4.7 2 6.5% 2 6.5% 72.8 EJ Manuel 47 28 263 59.6% 5.6 0 0.0% 1 2.1% 66.2 Thad Lewis 33 17 168 51.5% 5.1 0 0.0% 2 6.1% 40.1
  18. I would guess that the combine number of 54 mph is around what we would see if EJ lets it rip Kaepernick's combine number is 59 and he is reported to throw a 95 mph fastball Based on just those numbers, EJ would have an 86.95 mph fastball Apparently average fastball is 90 mph... http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_average_pitching_speed_in_MLB Major League Scouts consider 90 mph an average major league fast ball. 95 mph is considered a plus fastball velocity, and +97-98 mph a plus, plus velocity
  19. 1) Here the ball is difficult to see, but I believe it's still in Tuel's hand, just about to be released 2) Here the ball is difficult to see, but I believe it's just leaving Tuel's hand. It appears as a blur behind the O-lineman's helmet 3) Here the ball has just touched the receiver's hand I used 2 and 3 to calculate the time. If I had used 1 and 3, the flight time would go up by .017 second In that case, the speed would be 51.095 mph
  20. yes that's right, here are the numbers 18 / .734 = 24.52 y/s = 50.15 mph 25 / .984 = 25.41 y/s = 51.98 mph
  21. I used a video editor to get the time from the ball leaving qb's hand to reaching receiver's hand
  22. I found all the measurable throws I could on video (relatively flat and "vertical") Tuel's fastest one was 52 mph EJ's fastest was 50.2 mph Tuels average was 49.03 mph, EJ's average was 44.34 Also, I couldn't find any official velocity for Tuel, but EJ's was measured at the combine... YEAR: 2013 Tyler Bray, Tennessee 59 Zac Dysert, Miami (OH) 59 James Vandenberg, Iowa 57 Ryan Nassib, Syracuse 56 Bradley Sorensen, Southern Utah 56 Geno Smith, West Virginia 55 Tyler Wilson, Arkansas 55 EJ Manuel, Florida State 54 Matthew Scott, Arizona 54 Landry Jones, Oklahoma 53 Collin Klein, Kansas State 52 Colby Cameron, Louisiana Tech 51 Marqueis Gray, Minnesota 51 Michael Glennon, North Carolina State 49 Matt Barkley, Southern Cal – Did not throw Sean Renfree, Duke – Did not throw http://blogs.ourlads...bine-2008-2012/
  23. I would like to know too. On an off day for him in terms of accuracy he still went 4/5, moved the O, and scored, so there's that
  24. Looked off the safety which was good because safety did not come close to making a play on the ball. But I think the ball should not have been thrown. My guess is that is correctable, something like, don't throw that pattern if the DB still has cushion and has already turned his hips? Unless it's Goodwin, Graham, or Sammy, in that case throw it deeper
