  1. Does anyone remember the college drinking game from The Bob Newhart Show? You were supposed to throw one down every time someone on the show said "Hi Bob." We used to talk about doing the same thing or something like it whenever someone got killed on 24, but it quickly got out of hand.
  2. You are absolutely right. Where have I been for the last three years?
  3. So much for the conventional wisdom about not trading a disgruntled star within your division.
  4. I agree about her character. What I meant was, here's the President of the United States, the most powerful man in the world, up to his neck in bioterror, and yet he sends his ex-wife out for poltical dirty work around midnight. I saw her as more of a wheeler-dealer than a covert ops agent (remember her work at Allan what's-his-name's house?). It's not exactly David Palmer, but you do see Dennis Haysbert in at least one Allstate commercial during 24 every week. Meanwhile, since it's now past 9 pm in LA (midnight in Washington), when does it get unrealistic to bring new characters in? (Like that matters.)
  5. I actually miss Sherry Palmer, even if her character really didn't make sense. Has anyone else noticed that offed 24 Jack love interests show up as guest victims on "House"? The actress who played Terry (Jack's wife, Season #1) was a homeless woman last month and last week the actress who played Nina (Season #1 mole, #2 and #3 bad guy) was a 32-year-old CEO needing a heart transplant. Sherry wasn't a Jack-babe, but maybe she'll get a "House" gig as a leper or something.
  6. OK, she's back. It seems they can't make their minds up about Edgar -- they were growing him into a hero, and now he's a malcontent. What are the chances of an Edgar/Sarah subplot?
  7. Just FYI, Rosey Greer's full name was Roosevelt. It wasn't an unusual name for black kids born in the 40's. Similarly there was a handful of black kids named "Kennedy" in the early 60's. As for JP, since his name is really Jonathan Paul, I agree Jonathan is not a tough-guy name. But I've been wondering at what age he went all all the way to JP, skipping over Jon or something fake (like Bubba or T-Bone).
  8. According to this morning's Bergen (NJ) Record, the actress who plays Chloe is in a new Fox sketch comedy show premiering this Sunday. So maybe Chloe won't be back. (The Salazar wife-babe got offed last year just when Jack was warming her up because the actress had another commitment, so characters have disappeared from 24 like this before.)
  9. This explains a lot. QB'ing requires such a strong sense of what's going on around you and how to play the game (whch is why Flutie's lasted as long as he has with that arm, and even why Montana was so good with an arm that was accureate but not especially strong); in other words, brains. A year ago no one knew who Alex Smith was and now he's maybe a top 3 draft pick. On the other hand, we've been hearing for years about what great skills and arm strength Brock Berlin has, but where are the results? And look where he fits in with his score.
  10. You haven't really gotten a straight answer to your question, so here's a stab. Williams is probably an above-average run stopper and a good locker room guy. He wasn't really asked to rush the passer, suggesting perhaps that's not a strong suit. He's not an every-down player. There are questions about his stamina. He hasn't missed many (any?) games, but he's a very large man who looks gassed in fourth quarters. As good as the Bills D ranked statistically, they blew some games (I'm thinking mostly of Pittsburgh) in the 4th when they couldn't get the other team's O off the field because they couldn't stop the ground game the way they had earlier. There's a legtitimate question of whether he'll ever see the back end of his new contract -- but that's true of the whole NFL now. The Bills thought that paying a FA-type contract was overpaying. I hope this helps. I know how frustrating this site can get when you ask a simple question.
  11. Wasn't he Jason Peters' college QB? Kinda makes you wonder what goes on in the Arkansas program. They seem to collect interesting athletes.
  12. It's interesting how many people can't resist the urge to make a$$es of themselves with really stupid responses. Thanks to the rest of you.
  13. Out of all the Bills hats, shirts, sweatshirts, socks, thermal socks, etc. I've gotten over the years, the nicest single article is my authentic home jersey with Bledsoe / #11 on it from three years ago. A buddy owed me a big payoff for a series of favors and put up the bucks for it. Personally, I'm too cheap to ever buy something this good. I'd like to keep wearing it, maybe with a new name and number (I'm between Spikes and Willis, but I'm also thinking of 12 or 34; or maybe just my own name), but I have no idea how to get the old name and number off without making the jersey look like crap. Any serious ideas? (Save the "burn it/bury it/send it to a Dallas charity" posts.) Does anyone know a service or a company that could restitch it reasonably? Has anyone ever heard of bb.com or the Bills store "fixing" old shirts? (And actually I'd rather they went back to the old uni's anyway, or at least the old shade of blue.) Thanks in advance to the serious posters.
  14. Was Warner ever actually released? I thought he signed a two-year contract. I assume he'll be a 2/22 cut like Bledsoe and Garcia. Does anyone know for sure? (Like it even matters . . .)
  15. Check your facts and don't rely on bloggers who don't do their homework. Butler absolutely cut Thurman, Bruce, and Andre. That's why Donahoe's first decisions (other than hiring a coach) were what to do about Moulds and Marcellus Wiley. Wiley, you may recall, had a big year as Bruce's replacement as the big pass-rushing end. TD kept Moulds and let Wiley go to San Diego. Oh yeah, there was some other decision about keeping a quarterback. That also played out this time of year.
  16. (I know this is late, but I'm really bored.) I thought the funniest ad I saw during the Super Bowl coverage was actually on just a few minutes before the kickoff, promoting 24. If you missed it: The announcer with the frantic voice (who every week says, "an all new hour of 24 starts RIGHT NOW!") actually appears at a place that looks like a Wal-mart. He keeps popping up in different departments saying things like, "A NUCLEAR MELTDOWN IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN!" and "ONLY JACK BAUER CAN SAVE THE WORLD!!" while the ordinary shoppers give him these great WTF looks. In the last bit we see a guy taking a pair of boxer shorts off an underwear rack when the announcer pops up and says "TAKE TWO! YOU'RE GONNA NEED 'EM!!" Well, at least my son and I thought it was the funniest ad we saw.
  17. Favre benefits from all the embarrassing manlove John Madden douses him with when he's on national TV. I think it obscures the truth about how he's actually doing. The fact is Favre played very, VERY poorly in the Packers' playoff losses the last two years. (Think about it -- how many int's did he throw in a home loss to Minnesota this year?) Sure he's been tremendous for the last dozen years and week-in, week-out he can be pretty good. But he's not what he was and his championship days are over unless Green Bay builds a team that doesn't rely on him, like Denver did (with Terrell Davis) in Elway's last years.
  18. Audrey has the same kind of look as Terry (Jack's wife, Season 1) and Nina -- lean and kind of bony, especially in the cheeks. Kate Warner had a little more meat to her, but Jack dropped her in the first hour last year. So I guess we can see what his tastes are.
  19. SPOILER ALERT ON TONY -- SEASON #3 Remember, Tony was the only one at CTU (with Jack) who knew about Gael. So there's a background about Jack trusting him when he doesn't trust anyone else at CTU. I know Chloe's due back, but I thought by now they'd pick up her trail visting her friend Andrew, who disappeared into a hospital 3 or 4 hours ago. I thought Edgar would tell Driscoll to bring her back last night, since five hours ago Edgar seemed to be afraid to sign on without her help. And yeah, Tony blowing in like that near the end of the show was pretty cool. (Why is there any question about how he got there? Who do you think Jack called?)
  20. You are absolutely right. I've thought about that play several times over the years, along with the third-and-forever for the Giants when Hofstetler hit Steven Baker.
  21. Exactly! There's something extra-governmental going on. Remember, we never did find out who was behind everything the first season (it wasn't Victor Drabek; he was another pawn -- it was whomever Nina worked for) or who was behind the flesh-eating bacteria that infected Palmer at the of #2 (passed by the same operative who bombed the plane in #1).
  22. I think she's moling for someone else -- NOT the middle eastern terrorists we already know. We know she's ambitious, so it's got to be more than money, which is all the terrorists could offer. I'm thinking it's corporate espionage: she works for the defense contractor that already one-upped CTU by sending it for DOD clearance, thereby establishing that it (the contractor) is already big heat in Washington. When Marianne completes her mission she gets a senior job with the contractor and gets to bully the lowly government agents. Or she's just doing it for the money.
  23. The thread about favorite teams before the Bills and the one about ages got me wondering: how many posters on this Board ever actually saw a game at the Rockpile? I remember at least four for myself: the heavy snow game against Cincinnatti that Booker Edgerson won with a touchdown fumble recovery off a cornerback blitz on Greg Cook; the Preston Ridlehuber TD pass game when the Bills beat the Patriots OJ's rookie year; and preseason games against Detroit and, in Reuben Gant's rookie year, the St. Louis Cardinals ( I can't remember anything else about those games themselves except that the Bills lost). How many of us remember sitting in WMS?
