I'm really not sure what topic I'm responding to anymore, but I'll throw out Lucky Number Slevin. I have no idea how it did in theaters, but I don't think it was reviewed well. I thought it was entertaining and the scenes with Freeman and Kingsley were great.

Wow, that was outstanding!

NFL Media and the Browns' Rookie Camp...Waaaaaahhhh!
Acantha replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sorry, I don't see the problem with saying that Hoyer is better than Manziel at this point. Hoyer played well enough last year to be considered the starter going in. Especially if the reports on JM's film study habits are true, the Browns selected him with the intention of teaching how to be an NFL QB. He has the arm, but the way he played college football will not transfer to the NFL without more skill and preperation added in. I can understand being critical of the Browns for drafting a QB in the 1st round who they feel needs so much time, but not for wanting to teach him the NFL game before starting him. -

In theory I agree that the Bills roster is better filled out than it has been in quite some time, but in reality we were 6-10 last year (and the year before and the year before) and haven't made the playoffs in 14 seasons!! How does that equal freedom in any way? As an aside, I'm fine with the pick, and while a little stung over the price, I don't think it's as big of a deal as poeple make it out to be. I just don't understand your reasoning. -
I get such a kick out of those who get offended by this.

NFL Media and the Browns' Rookie Camp...Waaaaaahhhh!

It's a good idea, but it won't work. The Browns are a bad team and they are going to need a couple years to turn things around. First bad game by Hoyer and the fans and media will be calling for Manziel. But hey, he (Pettine) has to try I guess. -

I think it should be possible for a team to take a chance on a player's potential without feeling forced to throw him to the wolves. There's a split opinion on whether it's better to start a QB before he's ready to give him experience or let him sit so he isn't destroyed. Peyton Manning vs Aaron Rodgers to name successful versions of both. In this case, I think sitting Manziel is without a doubt the best move. If there was ever a QB that needed time to adjust his game (hell, is whole life) to the NFL, it's JM. If I were Pettine, I wouldn't let everyone's brow beating over him being a 1st round pick (and the failure on the Brown's part that implies) and do things however he thinks best. -
I have to say, I ended up liking this show (season recently ended). Started really slow, but like most Whedon projects the character development and plot really picked up about half way through the season. Not a "great" show, but definitely entertaining.

I Need Suggestions...Fishing Trip
Acantha replied to BringBackFergy's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I agree with portioning and using ziplock and a good cooler. I've never had a problem with that method, especially as JBoyst said, you can use the lake to keep everything cold. Sounds like someone from the cabin will be around most of the time? My one big peice of advice is to take every suggestion about food control due to bears very seriously. It's shocking what small mistakes can bring a bear into camp, and this time of year is often the most dangerous due to cubs. -

I agree they should follow the rules. Is that the case here? Also, when a team/player doesn't follow the rules, I don't see the point in acting like petulant children like they did with Marshawn Lynch. File a grievance with the league and let them handle it. Not exactly how it goes down, but keep deluding yourself into that, "we're just doing our jobs and getting the information out" mantra. Ah, I see. I like how you try to take away any argument I may have by telling me it's easy to go either direction. How very manipulative of you. Call me shocked. For the record, I agree (about it being a bad idea). I think there will be a small benefit in letting him (and all of the other rookies) get started with as little fuss as possible. But since the media are who they are, all the Browns have done is open JM up to the shameless retaliation that is to come. And oh how proud everyone will be if they're able to grind him into the ground and say, "told ya!! ") In the end, it doesn't matter what anyone thinks but the Browns. It's their decision to make, but how it reflects on them is has nothing to do with my post. Yeah, it's very easy to blame the people responsible. Just kind of works itself out. Talk about apples to oranges. -

I think it's hilarious. Browns better be ready to deal with the backlash. Of course as Pettine said, can't get much worse. -

I have to say that I mostly disagree. First, winning is what gives your team value. If the Browns think this gives them the best chance at winning, then nothing else matters. Second, the press reap what they sow and then cry foul. I'm with RealityCheck; I can't stand to listen to press conferences. Reporters ask the same horrible questions over and over with minor adjustments in the hope of getting just one word in the answer they can jump on. ANYTHING to try and sell a headline. And when anyone dares try to cross them, they come out in force and act like everyone who disagrees with them are out of their minds (and of course insult as best they can, right JW?). Spot on. -
Report: Bills tried to trade up to #1 for Sammy
Acantha replied to WotAGuy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is the same as the EJ conversation. Nobody would have taken Bortles before 9, excpet that somebody actually did take him before 9, so that arguement goes out the window. I know, the answer to that is nobody but Jax wanted him that high, but before they took him nobody knew Jax was going to take him that high, so who knows what everyone else would have done. I'm a fan of mock draft; they spark conversation and are fun when there's nothing else gonig on. So while I'm not one of those people that hate on mock drafts most of the time, it's after the draft that I wish people could just forget them. -
First, don't worry about the crap responses. The internet is for tough guys who like to bash things. Second, I have noticed the same thing you have, and it was especially bad during his draft day interviews. But, I have also noticed this. His radio interviews are much cleaner than his TV interviews, which leads me to believe he has a bit of stage fright when the cameras are rolling. Whatever the reason, it doesn't sound like any kind of medical impediment to me.

Have to say, I'm surprised. I know he's a nut job, but I figured someone would scoop him up as an UDFA. Give him one chance and if he steps out of line even a little bit, he's gone.

RD3, Pick #73: Preston Brown ILB, Louisville
Acantha replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sounds like a very similar player. Backup and probably replacement. Not a bad pick (can never have enough thumpers), but I think there was better value in areas of need (OG). -
I'm hoping for Jackson...but this is usually the point where they take someone that confuses the hell out of me. Like RB or CB for instance.

WR Stevie Johnson traded to San Francisco 49ers
Acantha replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly, I just don't get this. Watkins excited even more knowing that Stevie and Woods would be out there with him. Now, 3 of our top 4 WR's have a total of 26 NFL games under their belts. I just don't get the reasoning. Once this team approaches the cap limit, I'll start buying the contract excuse. -
RD1, Pick #4: WR Sammy Watkins - Clemson
Acantha replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Graham has to be gone. I've given the guy a lot of slack, but he's shown nothing since he's been here. He may have better luck elsewhere, but he needs to go. I think Easley sticks around due to his ST play. -
I want either Su'a Filo or Kouandijio. Kouandijio is falling because of his knee/arthritis, but since the Bills had him in for a visit, if they take him they must be sure he'll be good to go.

Game of Thrones Part Deax: The Readers Thread
Acantha replied to Kevin's topic in Off the Wall Archives
It's been a while since I read most of the books, and I haven't watched this season yet...so sorry if some of this is off, but for me, the deviations from the book have all been minor up until now. Even Rob's wife getting killed at the Red Wedding was minor since she didn't have a continued story line in the books. So while it was graphic and surprising, it didn't deviate form the overall plots. But some of these things being talked about now are going to alter the storylines of the major characters. I may have to stop reading all of these spoilers. Before I didn't really care because I basically new everything that was going to happen anyway; it was just the presentation that mattered. Now I think it may be more fun to just wait and watch the episodes when the season's are released. -

Pretty interesting, especially since the show up until recently has followed the books so closely. I guess this is the answer though as to how the show is going to continue once they reach the end of the books.
