Denied entry to Bills Game WTF!
smokinandjokin replied to Hammered a Lot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Do they know about your parking operation? I read that you said you were late because you were tending to an employee who was ill...Did you let the Bills know this was the reason too? I wonder if they would be hesitant to give you your money back by alluding to the fact that you MAKE money off of their games. That would be crummy, but who knows what they'd stoop to. -

Sunday night flex games start 11/12
smokinandjokin replied to Phil Indablanc's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
But I heard that they have to choose the games they are protecting in weeks 10-17 THIS WEEK. That makes it tough, as a lot can change in six weeks. Think about CBS protecting a big Indianapolis game, and then Manning gets hurt. -
WGR's afternoon topic yesterday
smokinandjokin replied to smokinandjokin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think we all knew what the majority answer would be on a Bills message board, if that's what you're implying. A lot of the people who were calling WGR to vote 'Sabres' seemed like they were already resigned to a Bills loss this Sunday. I wanted to ask, "Wouldn't that make the Bills victory that much bigger???" -
I did hang there for a weekend with a friend. VERY impressed with the talent, and I was in school at USC at the time which was no slouch on the ladies. Miami (OH) girls brought their A-game the weekend I was there.

WGR's afternoon topic yesterday
smokinandjokin replied to smokinandjokin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Totally agree. Not sure if the callers were truly split evenly, or they were screening to make sure that they got opinions from both sides, but I couldn't believe how many people said the Sabres. I am as big a Sabres fan as anyone, and would love to see them smack Carolina around, but I fully expect them to win their division even with an opening night loss. The Bills answer seemed so rediculously obvious, I was shocked at how many said the Sabres. It would be nice to ruin the fans' party in Raleigh, but let's face it, the Carolina players have their names on the Cup. I'm sure they're not too worried about the Sabres making a 'statement' (if that's even possible in Game 1 of an 82 game season.) Bottom line- Buffalo is a GREAT hockey town, but typically not until January. A Bills win would have huge ramifications on the city. It would give Bills fans and NFL fans a whole new view of this team. -
Run more or pass more vs. Chicago?

Are they still lost? -
On Schopp and the Bulldog yesterday, they were fielding fans calls about which victory would mean more- the Bills over the Bears or the Sabres over the Canes. Some points for both: Bills -Only 16 games, each win means more. Lose in hockey, there's 81 more -Bears are considered a top team in the NFL, win puts Bills on map -JP winning two in a row, including two straight on the road -Bills able to handle the top defense in the NFL Sabres -Avenge the loss in the conference finals last season -Defend the preseason pundits that have Buffalo at the top of the conference -Ruin the banner raising and ring ceremony party for the Carolina fans -This loss would hurt worse than a Bills loss, because Bills are supposed to lose I know which one I'm picking, but the results were surprisingly pretty split from the callers. What do you think?

I can't remember what it was on, SNL or Daily Show or something, but they were doing a parody of the Saddam trial, and they had his Johnnie Cochran-clone lawyer saying: "If he's from Tikrit, you MUST acquit!"

95- stuckincincy's post that light bulbs aren't made like they used to be. They burn out way too quickly, but what else would you expect from our liberal, rapid-paced, me-first society? In my day, we used to screw in lightbulbs by turning them to the left AND the right at the same time, with no ladder, and nobody EVER said "!@#$!" when they touched a hot lightbulb, unlike today's punks.

The old codgers at the Ralph suck...
smokinandjokin replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My grandfather, rest his soul, was HILARIOUS to watch Bills games with. First play of the game, Cribbs/Greg Bell/Thurman/Antowain/Henry/Willis/pick any Bills RB would run into the line for no gain. Grandpa: "Jesus Christ! We can't run the ball worth a schit!" He actually predicted last year when the Bills were up 24-3 in Miami that the Bills would lose the game. "They want to pass too much" he said. I told that crazy old bastard to pipe down, they're completing passes all over the field. That was the last game I watched with him, and I'll be damned if that crazy old bastard wasn't right. -
This Bears game has me thinking
smokinandjokin replied to marauderswr80's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This sounds like absolute crazy talk to me. The current Bills D, with those rooks starting and TKO coming off TWO injuries, would be a wash when ranked against the NFL's #1 defense over the past three years??? Yikes. The Bills defense looked okay against the Jets and Vikes, both dink-and-dunk offenses without an NFL-caliber RB. And the reality is, they didn't stop the Jets offense after the Bills cut the lead to one score, allowing a long TD drive to salt the game away. And they didn't truly stop the Vikes either, giving up a late TD and then barely surviving when the clock ran out with Minny on the 15 yard line. Bills D is improved but is looking WAY up the ladder at Chicago. -

What do the following QBs have in common?
smokinandjokin replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I understand, and I have seen examples of teams using this little loophole. I'm just not sure I follow how it helps the Patriots this year or next. I understand that if a team is at cap limit this year, inclusive of contracts written with NLTBE incentives, they will earn salary credits for the following season on all incentives that weren't earned. However, if the Patriots are $13M under the cap this year, which I'm assuming includes the NLTBE incentives you speak of, they will only earn credits on next year's cap for those incentives which are not met. It's not like they get an extra $13M to play with next year. They could do the same thing with the NLTBE's this year, earning the same credits on incentives not earned for next year, and still spend $10M+ more this season. It seems like a voluntary disadvantage, which is strange considering the thin depth at WR and LB. Believe me, I know CR is a mess. But you know as well as I do what type of league the NFL is. Many players with character issues and shady histories have gotten 2nd, 3rd, and 4th chances in the league. Look at Green Bay and their pickup of Robinson. I guess Rogers is missing the production to warrant an opportunity, but it's hard to believe he's not worth a sniff from somebody, just on NCAA and draft pedigree alone. "I think his release from Detroit has helped him gain some perspective, blah blah blah..." You know the routine. -
There are 12 games left...He was ejected from the last one, and suspended from 5, so that is roughly half of his remaining season. I think it's a very fair punishment. The longest in the NFL prior to this incident was two games, when that lunatic (can't remember his name) said before the game he was going to injure Jim McMahon, and then did everything in his power to do it. It's the new commish's first disciplinary action, and I think he did well. Not leniant, but not on a power trip, either.

Are we POSITIVE that NC State doesn't need their gym for hoops practice tomorrow night? -
The NFL is notorious for being a copycat league. I think a lot of teams saw the impact of safeties like Ed Reed, Bob Sanders, and Troy Polamalu have had, and they are all looking for that type of guy. Obviously those three guys are on another level, but it doesn't stop teams from experimenting. Even though Polamalu was slowed by injury during the SB last year, I'm sure watching him throughout the playoffs got Marv's juices flowing about drafting a game-changing safety.

That is appalling. It's not like staying under does you any favors. You can't roll those savings into the next season and be $13M over the cap... A 1st-rounder for Branch was a real coup, but not using that money while watching McGinnest, Vinatieri, Branch, and Givens walk just seems idiotic. I have a feeling this would be a much bigger deal in the media if it was another contender, like Baltimore or Cincy, hanging that far under the cap. The fact is, the Pats have made all of their moves work for the last five years, so it's hard to criticize them until the season plays out. I can't believe they haven't given Charles Rogers a look...He can be trouble, and has been injured, but that's a former #2 overall who is young and unemployed. -

I heard it on WGR. I went to the Canes website and it said the game said sold out, but then I clicked on the link to buy tickets, and the Ticketmaster website popped up. They had at least two available...That's as far as I explored it... -
