I'm not sure I follow this. We're in Murphy's last contract year, so cutting him would only save money for us this year. It's a safe bet that White will not be extended this year (and Allen definitely not). So I guess if we were trying to extend Milano, it could help there. But that is about it. For what it's worth, if the only reason to cut Murphy is to get a deal done with Milano, I'd rather wait. Having Milano AND Murphy is more valuable than just having a rich Milano.

He's been on record shortly after the draft (firing) saying Watson was his pick.

His drafts produced a lot of competent/good/great players. The problem was the constant change in schemes and player needs. That 5th Round LB hit is a CLASSIC Whales move. Outside of QBs and WRs, Whaley drafted well. Even if folks dont want to hear it. The bigger problem came in "building a team" around the cap.

I'll refer you back to the Dawkins thread. It isnt a 4yr/$60M contract. It is 5 yr/$61M. Which is $12.2M/year. I understand both sides of the argument, because it comes down to how you want to slice this last year of his rookie deal. It's a smart contract because it gives the Bills a $12.2M averge, but the player can think of his next contract as $15M avg.

But he isnt. He's getting #12 money.

Thanks, bandit. I'd say that's a pretty big difference. No? Milano is going to miss 1 in every 6 tackles, where Thompson only misses 1 in 10. I know Beane/McD/someone has said we need to get better at tackling this year. Maybe they wait to see if he improves at all.

I'd be interested in seeing their number of Broken/Missed tackles compared. But not sure if anyone tracks that.

I would not go to an 8-figure number. If that is really what he can get, then more power to him and good luck on the next team. I'd see that play out much like an Andy Levitre situation. Go get paid, and never really play well with all the injuries. I wouldnt fault him for going for that money, and I wouldnt fault the Bills for letting him walk.

Not at all. I'm thinking more like Trent Murphy money. I'd give him a 3 year extension, $21M-25M total. Those $14M/yr projections are INSANE. If that is anywhere close to reality we have to let him walk. He is a system LB who has played well in Buffalo and for McD. Hopefully he realizes how lucky he got as a 5th round pick.

Agree that Milano makes the most sense to be next. Especially now that he knows he'll be playing for McD and in McD's scheme through his next contract. Tre next year, and then Beane right after as a reward.

That can come in another year, or even two. Dont get me wrong, would love to have him re-signed asap. It's just not pressing, and Tre may not be ready to re-sign right now anyways. It really only benefits him to wait.
