  1. Well done. You're definitely an all-star on this board in my book. Folks make fun of Walterfootball, but they're not bad even though it is a terrible website.
  2. RT and Edge worry me more than MLB. Somehow I think they are going to scheme the LB situation into something reasonably effective. And I suspect Von comes back relatively early and plays well, but one can't know that I suppose.
  3. Hey! I mean really. I did write a dissertation on Dostoevsky. Just because Russian novels are long, that's just a coincidence.
  4. Well, I just perused a few to get a sense of your oeuvre. It appears pretty eclectic. I must say my sister owns several peacock and the great Flannery O'Connor did as well. I'll have to ask sister if they are as annoying as you say.
  5. In retrospect it can all appear an utterly foolish dream, but I still understand the kind of romantic idealism that caused that journey in the first place. More often than not it hides under the guise of bitterness, alas. American pragmatism doesn't see the point of it. Anyway, be well fellow sufferer, and yes, let's go Buffalo!
  6. Leonardo Dicaprio agrees.
  7. I'm not certain that you are properly discerning my meaning. If you want to spend time searching this site, just in the last day or so I wrote a rather lengthy exposition of problems with Ken Dorsey's first year as OC. Essentially, I agree that he is doubtfully incompetent, but has a ton of room to grow. I think he'll get there, but I don't have certitude. The sad hats are for those who disliked paying up to be able to draft Kincaid. Since you seem to believe Kincaid was a great pick, I don't think you own one. Those who do are welcome to keep that hat. I don't think it's a good look, but tastes differ.
  8. The bumblebees? No, I think corta765's subtle suggestion might actually work. That's why I'd like to see a mock up. I can easily imagine the loud, so awful some folks find it endearing the way camp scifi is both wretched and weirdly watchable. Nonetheless, I am opposed to that.
  9. I'd like to see a mock up of that. There must be some clever computer folks that could create a simulacrum.
  10. I understand. I am ambivalent myself, but if you are looking for where they could find money, that is one of the places and I am speculating they have a higher opinion of Oliver than most fans.
  11. I think both the Sabres' and current Bills' uniforms are classic. Teams with good uniforms in the classic mode don't need radical changes. You can make minor alterations over time to keep it fresh, but I prefer that to wholesale changes that cater to contemporary tastes. They almost always fade and what is popular in the moment can look embarrassing down the road. I'm not one of those who hated the Sabres' goathead sweaters, and it makes a nice third jersey, but it is not as good as the classic royal blue and gold. The slug was precisely the kind of thing that the itch for change can produce. The Donahoe era monstrosities were the same on the football side. I personally think the white helmets pop and look much sharper than the red. I understand that some folks have sentimental attachment to the red helmets, but if you believe they are aesthetically superior you're simply wrong -- even though folks say you can't argue tastes. The current helmet is excellent. If they were to go retro, they should go back to the standing buffalo. Yes, it lacks the energy of the logo we stole from Howard University, but it has enduring, understated dignity that will persist a hundred years from now. (I'm in the minority here. That's okay. It's a barbaric age that despises good art and literature, so one must expect the same animosities to thrive in the realm of the sartorial.)
  12. Somebody desperate for oline help which is a lot of teams. I bet you he brings a late pick if traded.
  13. Ingram would be a good signing. I also still think it's possible they extend Ed Oliver which will disappoint some folks, but I suspect they like him more than many surmise. That would open up the funds to get an edge specialist.
  14. It's a good article that clearly articulates why the pouting crowd angry we traded up for a TE are wrong given Kincaid's particular skill set. They can continue to hang their sad little hats on Dorsey being an incompetent OC, I suppose, but there's no reason an intelligent OC shouldn't be able to make this happen and I surmise Dorsey year two is going to improve upon his rookie campaign.
  15. Too sad for words. I'll be dead before I have the damn thing paid off.
  16. I read this in an article discussing Von Miller's specific surgery. I cannot remember the author so I am unsure how credible the information, but supposedly this was part of Miller's reason for optimism regarding a quicker return than might be expected.
  17. The difference if I recollect correctly is that holes drilled in the bone for a previous surgery were still available to use in the new surgery. Apparently this is helpful and lessens recovery time. But my PhD is in the humanities, so this may all be hearsay.
  18. It's the first.
  19. I cheated and looked it up. Without really watching I was rooting for the Houston team because of Wade Phillips. Battlehawks and Sea Dragons are fun names.
  20. Happy Bday!
  21. It's rather difficult to make a pun out of DiGregorio.
  22. Lot of folks on this board think they know football better than Josh apparently.
  23. Obviously there is a lot of supposition regarding Allen. If I were the Bills, I'd want to be damn certain. And given how competitive Allen is, I would be surprised if he were willing to risk not being 100% for the upcoming year. The entire plausibility of a SB run literally depends on Allen being able to play as his best self.
  24. I agree with a fair amount of your analysis, though I believe there are a few cases where the which way will it go scenarios are tilted along different odds than you suggest. I don't think it's very plausible that the Bills would take a risk that Allen might not be recovered from the elbow injury for the upcoming season. Why would you not get the surgery if it was needed to be certain? Maybe there's a rationale for it, but I'm not willing to treat that as a 50/50 gamble. I expect White will be better. I hope he returns to pre-injury form. I don't think you can count on that, though it seemed to me as the season progressed his play did improve and he was never someone who relied on blazing speed, so at minimum I surmise late season White is a probable floor. I don't agree, however, that Miller's injury is the same. From what I have read, it was not nearly as severe as what White suffered. Maybe there is propaganda involved, but I don't really see how it benefits Von or the team to sound optimistic if they do not believe there are sound reasons for thinking he can return to form. You say it's a safe bet he is finished as an impact player. I don't see a basis for that kind of pessimistic certitude. Not all 34 year olds are alike. All the same, there are some veteran FA Edge players and I wouldn't mind bringing one in as insurance. This is certainly a prove it year for Dorsey. He's been given sufficient resources to build a dangerous and unpredictable offense. Supposedly it is difficult to integrate a pass catching rb into the offense midseason because it calls for more difficult pass protection schemes. They drafted Cook whose skill set included catching passes out of the backfield, so I don't know why that wasn't part of the original install. I suppose they were bringing Cook along slowly and the oline was subpar, so that may have contributed to the total inability to use Hines effectively or to take advantage of all that Cook brings to the table. Regardless, Dorsey now has sufficient time to figure out how to use all the weapons provided. One way or another slot should be a much more reliable weapon. IOL is deeper with more aggressive tendencies. Dorsey can presumably employ some elements of both a finesse and power running game given the diverse rbs in the room. Another complaint about his game planning, however, is that Dorsey never synthesized the running game and pass plays into a coherent strategy. They would often seemingly be called randomly without building upon one another and setting the defense up for maximum impact. Particularly in the RZ we became predictable which is in part responsible for the disturbing increase in turnovers. Josh used to be excellent at avoiding RZ giveaways. Those are just soul crushing and we had way too many. So, I concur that Dorsey is the most significant unknown. He should make some leap from year one. If it's substantial and we avoid bad injuries to key players, it could be a magical year. I don't think you can worry about how many good qbs you face. It's an advantage regular season to not see too many. Maybe it helps you in the playoffs if you have. If we put our best team forward, we're going to win a lot of games.
  25. That's interesting. Lot of talk here that he is 1T. If he is indeed 3T, seems we have too many of those and not enough 1T.
