Rex wearing a Clemson helmet in his presser is...
Dr. Who replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Most people lose their sense of playfulness as life goes on. Corporate NFL is all about making money, but love for the game ought to include the sheer joy of the contest. As you note, a sense of fun won't make up for poor performance, but it sure makes it easier to root for a jovial fellow over a mumbling, killjoy cheat (for example.) -
We are overly litigious as a society and often overly sensitive and just waiting to take offense. Imo, the fellow was a dope for taking the sign. Sports, especially football, are driven by emotion. An athlete excels because he is spirited (what the ancient Greeks called thumos.) I think it's fair to ask an athlete to refrain from avoidable violence like hitting an unprotected player, but I actually expect the kind of response Cam had to the sign. Doesn't strike me as thuggish; more like a spirited, instinctive reaction to finding enemy propaganda in the house. My instinct was to laugh, not indulge in moral outrage. There are plenty of real evils in this world to invoke that.

What an inexcusably stupid comment. Most EJ "supporters" hoped he would improve and wanted to see how he would do with better coaching. This does not make them thickheads, but even if it did, it would not imply that they were callous and stupid. On the other hand, the fact that you felt the need to drag EJ into this thread at all and used it as an opportunity to gratuitiously bash other Bills' fans is a sign of vicious character. So, let other readers decide where the better analogy lies.

Players asking to be used differently (Sammy, DL)
Dr. Who replied to johnwalter's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Isn't the quick short pass a staple of the West Coast offense? What is different about what is being done now? It would seem an obvious antidote to a great pass rushing team. Why didn't it seem to work last year against us? Did no one think to use it? Further, how come our offense can't do what others are doing to us? Maybe I am naive about this. Does it really take a superior qb to make the quick pass offense work? -

It would be better if the players made their views known behind closed doors. It is then easier for a coach to make a change without looking like he just capitulates to player griping. That said, one should evaluate each case on its individual merits. Imo, both Watkins and Mario and Marcell have good points. Of course, Watkins has to be able to stay healthy, but he should be targeted more. As for the D-line, last year was more impressive, wasn't it? I wrote in another thread, it seems to me exotic schemes are often designed to make up for lack of superior talent. We have the talent, but its not showing up enough on the field. If it's not the players, its the coaching. -
I am generally an optimist with regards to the Bills. The D is a mess. Hopefully Ryan has enough humility and intelligence to let the front 4 rush the qb. More of what Schwartz did last year. If you have superior talent, let the talent play. Excessive use of exotic coverages and disguises are for when you need surprise to make up for lack of talent.

I doubt that is typical. I wanted to see EJ play after his good preseason and presumably better coaching. I still don't think he is awful and I still despise the contempt thrown his way. I like TT. I fear the way he has to play will entail the likelihood of injury ala Vick. At this point, I would play Taylor when he is healthy, but I am already assessing the 2016 draft. Right now, I like Kevin Hogan.

You're reading something into my comments that is not there. On the other hand, I don't really give a damn so think whatever you like.
-
Those are not terrible numbers. People who expected a lot more were unrealistic. I still believe the disdain for EJ is irrational and in some cases vicious. I am dubious that Taylor can stay healthy and play the way he needs to in order to be successful. I'm hoping for the best with these guys, but I'm already looking at the 2016 draft (Kevin Hogan?)

God bless Bill and his family.

Apparently we are the NFL version of the Washington Generals. -

The current backup qb for Dallas. Imo, if we are going to develop a qb, it would better to give EJ a shot. I thought the idea was Tyrod's mobility was going to make Roman's offense better. -
You complain about a previous poster's attitude and then post this condescending scat. GTH.
-
Entirely reasonable analysis. It will be lost on those who would benefit from it most.
-
We're about the same age. I wholeheartedly endorse these sentiments.
-
Exactly right. What's the point of that kind of pessimism? If everything stays the same, might as well not bother watching the games. The wheel turns for everyone. Those who seem to enjoy putting a black cloud over everyone's sunshine aren't realists, they're . . . not very nice people.

I guess you are equally entitled to priggish smugness and hyperbole. I suppose the widespread belief that the Pats**** cheat and get more calls is just confirmation bias. Oh well, we all have crosses to bear.
-
If and when the Buffalo Bills crush the Pats**** and knock the stuffing out of Tom Brady, I predict they become America's favorite team.

Enough incoherence/whining from WGR re: EJ
Dr. Who replied to OCinBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hopefully Taylor plays lights out and stays healthy. If he struggles a lot or gets injured, I think EJ will leapfrog Cassel and become the starter. Cassel is the mentor, come in in the middle of the game if the starter is injured figure. I surmise there is something ambiguous about the 2/3. If it plays out differently, so be it. -

Okay, I think your eyes are wrong. One man's reasons are another's excuses and vice versa. I'm sure you're a fine fellow, though unwise in this case. Mainly I just felt like expressing some rhetorical spleen. -

A first round qb who was drafted as a project, with an incompetent head coach, a first year coordinator, and no qb coach his rookie year. This is the first year EJ has had truly good NFL coaching and he has demonstrably improved. He has also been a consummate teammate, never whining or sulking and consistently working to improve. He is hardly a bust. The fact that you cannot properly contextualize the situation and show contempt towards an honorable person in what is actually a hopeful situation reveals the quality of your mind and character. The laughter of fools is the praise of the wise. -
Rex to be first Bills coach since '05 to have TV Show

LOL, good one.

This is just tremendously informative and interesting. I hope you don't mind. I'm going to copy paste this at BBMB. I'll be clear you are the author. There is a dearth of this kind of informed posting over there.
