I don't get it. Not in the least. Is the story just that he's an idiot while speaking to a reporter in a press conference, and if so...what's the game plan to address the outrage? Demand an apology for what he said, or what he thinks? And if she's offended, which would be perfectly understandable, what's the end game there? Will an apology from an idiot solve the problem, because isn't the problem that he's an idiot??

The Smokin' Jay thread
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to BringBackOrton's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In fairness, who would see problems coming? the league is full of success stories of well-known malcontents with a penchant for tossing picks and dividing locker rooms who retired and were subsequently lured out of the broadcast booth to take the helm for a team just prior to the season opener. I think waiting two weeks to anoint him the #2 behind Brady showed great restraint. -

You kids and your fidget spinners. I started with: I'm all for the right to protest and agree with the historical perspective offered. Where we probably disagree is the time/place and venue for the protest Then I offered the comparison between Ghandi's venue and a typical NFL protestors venue. I changed the font to bold in your latest email. Then when you were still confused, I said: Well, it seems to me you asked for clarification, I offered it and then you followed up asking me to address a point I never made. Now, I've explained it twice and you still come back to players shutting up because they have money, and the only person who actually typed those words is you. So what I'm saying is, either you have innocently missed that point on consecutive occasions, or you are a rabble rouser. Either way is fine with me. -

Well, it seems to me you asked for clarification, I offered it and then you followed up asking me to address a point I never made. Let me try it this way: I agree with you that people have the right to protest, but I think they should not protest in NFL Stadiums or in conjunction with their employment. I don't think comparing athletes in a football stadium to civil rights advocates marching on Selma is a valid comparison. -

sure, I'd be glad to offer my perspective, understanding that yours might be different. here's what I wrote that should answer your question: I'm all for the right to protest and agree with the historical perspective offered... Where we probably disagree is the time/place and venue for the protest. As for admirable protesting, no, I don't think it's particularly admirable for professional athletes to protest at work, or for that matter, I don't expect the Walmart greeter to hand me fliers in the aisle, nor my dentist to talk to me about the needs for whitey to band together when I'm getting my choppers cleaned. To be blunt--I think it's an insult to Ghandi, Rosa Parks, Jackie Robinson and MLK to compare the two. Take all this stuff outside, I feel (mostly) different. One step further. I differentiate between protestors. I feel it's my right as an American. I'm perfectly comfortable thinking CK is an insufferable jacka$$ for cops are pigs, and tossing on mighty t shirts you buy at a retro clothing shop of famous revolutionaries and el presidentes who likely would ask him "Hey, dude, ain't you worth like $20 m, wtf are you doing here?". That's just me though. -

I'm all for the right to protest and agree with the historical perspective offered. Where we probably disagree is the time/place and venue for the protest. Ghandi did not pull up in his $108,000 Mercedes to his private parking spot outside a billion dollar stadium, walk into his tastefully appointed locker room to put on the uniform left in his locker by an attendant, stroll out into a stadium filled with paying customers and take a knee on fake grass infused with shredded tennis balls and crested to account for proper drainage with a team of highly paid physicians nearby to tend to his every need as needed. True, Ghandi didn't have to deftly sidestep 350 pound men trying to de-toga him, but I guess that's the trade off. -

Off the top of my head, the honorablezez Pelosi, Glibrand, Collins, Feinstein, Harris, Collins and Hauntas in the Senate...and from the google-vese 100 or so in Congress.... I'll wait while you check the rosters for the wealthy females playing professional football. Other than that, well played. -

ah, this is just part of the c%$#@#f%$# the nfl has become. PEDs, cheating scandals, court cases to determine the outcome of cheating scandals, CTE, the marijuana question and evolving laws and social norms, domestic abuse, cheerleader controversies and now the politicization of the game day experience. what makes me chuckle is you really couldn't find a more exclusive, high-end, misogynistic club than that of nfl players and owners. I saw yesterday that a member of the steelers spoke about some fan reaction, and basically suggested that they weren't looking to politicize it, they just wanted to play football. he went on to say if some fans don't want to watch, they shouldn't watch. seemed reasonable enough, but if you're part of the ownership group, that should chill you to the bone. the whole point is to get consumers to embrace the product. -
classic. must see tv.

Great write up and always enjoy reading your thoughts. Thanks for the hard work! How awesome is it to be able to watch the third game of the season and be able to call that series an "outlier". I'd bet McD had some pretty strong thoughts on that series he will share with the team. That was nuckin futz.

Bills Kicker speaks about inequality
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to MAJBobby's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
sweet fancy moses. that article was painful to read. "white people are afraid to get involved'? it reads like it was a narrative of a sixth grade civics class. I'm sure he means well, but it's been my experience that lots of folks are pretty busy just trying to live their own lives. I do think it's ironic that a lot of these stories talk about the diversity of the nfl locker room--a place where membership is exclusively male and made up of highly compensated professionals and where ordinary folks are not allowed. . -
"Undisputed" champion of beer guzzling and hot dog eatin? Sports talk is what it is, and the criticism may end up being fair. I try not to personalize anything these guys say, but Rex brought in Rob and claimed they would prevail because they shared a brain. Last year was a debacle on defense. You fire a guy for that type of sales job in year two when it backfires.

I see no problem with wanting a consistently good product on the field from paid, professional officials. At the same time, I want to see a consistently good product on the field from the bills. the fact is--it sucks when you get consistently get neither. I thought the officiating was pretty good yesterday, thought the miss was fairly obvious and should have been called. I can understand them missing it, I guess, maybe Shady's head was turned away from the official, maybe a player blocked the view, maybe the official got his lasik surgery using the 'second eye free' coupon like doug did for carrie in "King of Queens". Obviously it can happen, but wanting a call to be made that should be made seems pretty basic to me. the nfl reviews league officials..but fans shouldn't? In fact---I'm glad Coach McDermott suplexed that official earlier on, screw him.

The Jets interception play.

I am slowly being driven mad by the inconsistency of officiating from play to play and game to game. But, I think they took a very complicated at and managed not to #### up the call. kudos to Tyrod and EW on finishing the play and stopping what looked like a pick 6 from the end zone. -

I can understand not extending the benefit of the doubt, but have no problem with giving them a chance. I think it's unreasonable to break it down to the simplest form as you see it, if only because there were more players involved. -

this passes for news? a fan behind a guy yelled he was gonna get cut from the team football team? is it newsworthy because the yeller was disrespectful to the yellee during the anthem? why not just write this, and publish it after every game: Somebody was an a%%hole to someone else on Sunday. In related news, lots of people were not. -
Just talked to a former player from the SB years
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to major's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
absolutely. I thought the comments from teef were unnecessarily harsh, especially given that he's apparently shared his opinion on this board in excess of 1000 times at least. I figure as bills fans, we're all just the homely children of ugly parents. no need to bash a guy who's given a &^%$ since the Johnson administration, though maybe I only feel that way since I'm not that far behind. -

I realize it's only one pre-season play...but that was one pre-season play for a 37 year-old guy who signed after much consideration and opted to retire 10 days later . if someone told me it was his first game back after a double knee replacement with complications, I might believe them based on this clip.
