  1. So, if I'm reading you correctly, in the calm light of day, you don't advocate the ban/involuntary surrender of firearms like the AR15 on a national level? As for the mother of the suspect and law enforcement reply, well, that pushes me more in the direction of 'maybe I oughta get one because at the end of the day, there is no rhyme or reason to who is in the wrong place at the wrong time'. Thanks for the follow up.
  2. Hey Alf- Don't want to hound you, but about an hour before you replied here I replied to one of your earlier posts. I really am interested in your reply, mostly because I think my perspective is very reasonable. I mean, truly the way many non-gun-loving-ok--with-reasonable-legislation-but-interested-in-protecting-the-family Americans look at this issue. 100 times out of 100, a guy with Task's perspective doesn't concern me. I know many guys like him, and if the $h$t hits the fan at the local mall I'm hoping he's the next game over at Dave and Busters. See, at the end of the day, I think a guy like me is as big an impediment to what folks like you are suggesting, and I really have never gotten a reply that makes me want to move into your voting column on gun control. I try, I just usually get some vague shoulder shrug or the conversation ends. And, to repeat, I've never owned a gun nor had a major desire to own one. If you get a moment, let me know your thoughts. If you prefer not to, well, that's fine as well. I am perplexed, btw, that at this stage of my life, I had to start a post with the words "Hey Alf", and I will never forgive you for that.

  4. Don't want to hijack the discussion you are having with the other folks, but this question constantly pulls me in different directions. Why would I not want to buy an AR15, own it lawfully, learn to use it, and keep it for my own safety? I see news stories constantly about extremists attacking ordinary citizens and the formula seems to be a whole 'lotta extremists--often in masks--attacking one overmatched citizen. Add to that the challenge of leadership in cities like Baltimore and Portland advising the cops to stand by while the thumping occurs, as if the set-upon party is expendable. Then, there is the recent video of law enforcement personnel being doused with water or worse in NYC, and getting back to some our cities, the stand-down orders where violent pos are allowed to destroy personal property unmolested. Now, we have leading political operatives revealing the names/addresses/employers of American citizens for the sole purpose of intimidation, exposing them to the same type of violent extremists who discussed themselves stabbing an American senator in the heart in his home, and filmed it like disciples of Charles Manson. And that's where we are at....today. The threat to me personally is still relatively low, but certainly higher than it was 10 years ago. At the same time... The way I see it, the people have nothing to fear from me. I'm mentally stable (mostly), I work for a living, I judge people on the content of their character, and present a threat to no one. At the same time, the impression I'm getting is that I'm viewed as an enemy to many people for the things I think and believe. I own property on a commercial strip not far from a good-sized city, worked hard to get it and harder still to keep it--and while I would hate to see it set ablaze by masked thugs, it's just property. However, if it's set ablaze by masked thugs when it's occupied by my employees and myself, well, that is a whole 'nother story. I'd think in the scenarios outlined, 8 rounds is insufficient. What say you?
  5. Going to suck on a massive scale when some rabblerouser shows during reruns of Mr. Belvedere and threatens to stab him in the heart.
  6. You've gone full Boisie Boy since emigrating to Idaho. And since someone brought up the Boisie Boy TV show, looks like a beautiful part of the country. Congrats.
  7. Good thought but unworkable: German guns are cold and distant, and to be frank they really just want to rule the world. Italian guns are prone to emotional outbursts. Irish guns are generally knee deep in the sauce by 10am. Swiss guns, well they want to get a feel which way the winds are blowing before they commit to anything. Russian guns? yeah, good luck.
  8. "there's no way to stop the gun from harming the public?" what the...?! you may be 2 fig newton's short of a full sleeve ?
  9. Why not just embed the looney tunes?
  10. It's been said that his intention was to fundamentally transform America, and that seems accurate. Whether or not his intentions were decent is squarely in the eye of the beholder,
  11. Those memories were probably crystal clear a couple decades ago when you were a spry young buck of 60. ?
  12. Basic projection logic. A + pineapple = instant oil change.
  13. No. In fact, stow your (likely) white privilege against the humble lobster and set him free!
  14. your first sentence reminded me of this scene from "Coming to America":
  15. I have family that lives in the lower Hudson Valley. Strong and reliable rumor has it TB12 has a place in/around Pawling, NY, about an hour north of NYC. Recent purchase, on a golf course, in a high rent district. I just hope he and Gisele are being careful with their money*. These young folks can really get all tussled up in the credit card debt if they are not careful. *actually, I don't really care.
  16. Your argument is invalid, imo, because the old 'trade off is making people safer' argument that means little in day to day life. Personally, I'd no more prefer to be done in by a Chevy Cobalt being driven by a texting teen or impaired driver than I would by a guy shooting up a Walmart, and believe the odds of the Cobalt getting me are substantially higher than that of the sociopath with the firearm--and you have to get licensed to drive the Cobalt. If I really wanted to be safer, wouldn't I want to get rid of the Cobalt first? Besides--I'm not the lawful guy owner. He/she thinks he/she IS safer with the gun, and I'm hard-pressed to disagree. Look, I'm not a gun guy. I've never owned one, may have fired a shotgun once or twice, but that's about it. I do, however, see the need for precise language when discussing issues as emotional as gun control. I'm assuming you are not running for a seat in congress, so, what exactly constitutes a 'military style assault weapon'? To me, it's a creative and descriptive term, invokes images of GIs storming a bunker in some far off land (before being betrayed by those in the halls of power of the country when political winds shift--but that's a different subject) and encompasses anything from a pistol to a machine gun to a missile launcher. I don't like being manipulated---and I certainly will give you the benefit of the doubt here where I do not extend the same benefit to a politician---and I think that particular term is incredibly manipulative and may well mean everything from a pistol to a machine gun to a missile launcher depending on who(m) is using it. And, one more thing to both of you with no particular animus directed your way--it does strike me as incredibly hypocritical of those gun control advocates who support abortion to the point of conception. In other words, this is a complicated subject.
  17. One of the challenges is, in spite of the narrative to the contrary, there are people and politicians looking to take away the right to personal ownership of firearms. For the millions upon millions of sensible, lawful gun owners in the country---that's a deal breaker and any further movement away from the right to bear arms is not so much a slippery slope but a gaping chasm.
  18. Again, your lies on this issue are clear and obvious. You woukd not recognize the truth if a Samnite struck you in the face with a scutum full of it.
  19. Deranged should also be compelled to tell us why Ratcliffe is in any way qualified to be the goalie for the US Women's Soccer Team, host the Academy Awards, and/or work on Verizon's 5g cell towers.
  20. I've never heard that espoused from Trump. I've never heard him call for mass shootings, support mass shootings, nor have I ever heard him "scapegoat" immigrants. Quite the opposite, in fact. I think you know that.
  21. 100% agreed. I started a podcast based on Cover 1's work, called it Prevent D, taped their show and interspersed my own commentary to kick it up a notch. I also said "Brought to you by Verisan". Now everyone is pissed at me--the NFL, cover Q1, You Tube and the phone company. There isn't even a Verisan, I made that part up.
  22. The subject sounds a little heavy for porn, but...foraging females(!!!)...what the heck. I'll check it out.
