  1. Wow. Yeah if Mexico loses tomorrow then they would be eliminated as long as they don't beat Uruguay by 3 or more goals. So ughh - I can't believe I'm gonna root for France. Ughh.
  2. I'm not sure where the odds were before the tournament, but right now the bookmakers have Spain, Brazil and Argentina as the favorites followed by Germany, England and Holland (and then Italy). I doubt the odds moved much since the tournament started since Spain is still 1 or 2 in the odds I've seen even after their loss.

  4. Actually that makes it a superfecta. I'm just having a tough time ranking them in stupidity. I'm thinking: 1. Liver Guy 2. The DWI Duo 3. The Carnal Clambake 4. Mud Boys
  5. Not quite right. In your scenario we advance because we have 5 pts (1-0-2) and Slovenia has 4 (1-1-1). The scenario analysis right now is: On 6/18, England beats Algeria and we tie Slovenia. Then on 6/23: (a) England beats Slovenia - we advance as long as we beat Algeria - we have 5 pts, Slovenia has 4 pts (b) England ties Slovenia - we advance on goal differential as long as we beat Algeria by 2 or more goals (b) England loses to Slovenia - we advance as long as we beat Algeria What are the next tie breakers if the goal differential is identical? Goals scored or goals allowed? And if those are the same, then what?
  6. It's been a banner few weeks in Buffalo http://www.buffalonews.com/2010/06/04/1071...-by-driver.html http://www.buffalonews.com/2010/06/15/1082...d-arrested.html

  8. Icing is equally as gay as Last Post Wins. Now who of you posted there?
  9. Here I disagree. There are plenty of scoring chances negated (often just after corner kicks) where the defenders head away or deflect the ball upfield yet never gain control. Then the attacking team gets whistled for offsides when the defenders pull up. I'd like to see the defenders advance at least advance the ball past a certain point before offsides takes affect again. Like clearing the blue line in hockey. I think this would add to the offensive flow of the game. And hey, there never used to be a forward pass in hockey. Or a forward pass in football. Or offensive linemen never used to be allowed to use their arms to block. All these were major (maybe fundamental) changes. And big improvements.
  10. Right. I forgot about that. They banned where a goalie could drop the ball, dribble it, and pick it back up maybe two WCs ago. As well as picking up a ball that is played back by a defender. See - I knew it was a good idea.

  13. I wouldn't classify myself as an avid fan but probably more interested than a casual fan. My ideas for rule changes are: 1. Diving. It's too hard for the referee to adequately determine diving. So create a 4 or 6 person tribunal to review dives. Majority vote. Fine players who are caught diving a percentage of their pay. I have no idea how soccer players are paid (by game, cap, bonuses, etc) but I'm sure a fair way to do this can be determined. 2. Pull-Up offsides. Add a line about 10-15 yards outside the penalty area. Call it the attack line. On first advancement into the area, normal offsides rules are in place. But once the ball reaches within 6 yards of the endline (the width of the goal box), offsides no longer applies until the ball is cleared beyond the attack line. 3. Goalies have 6 seconds to play the ball after controlling it. No punting. Maybe dropkicks, maybe not. Otherwise just one arm throws. 4. Once the ball is retrieved, maybe 6 seconds on goal kicks also. None of this waiting while everyone walks half-way down the field. 5. Only allow FIFA endorsed vuvuzelas that are designed to go to maybe 90-95 dB. None of these 120 dB nightmares. What do you think?
  14. Open wide for some soccer! The Continental Soccer Association is coming to Springfield! It's all here - fast-kicking, low scoring, and ties. You bet! You'll see all your favorite soccer stars. Like Adiaga! Adiaga two! Badiaga! Aruglia! And Pizzoza! And they'll all be signing autographs. This match will determine once and for all which nation is the greatest on earth - Mexico or Portugal!
  15. I thought it was pretty crappy too
  16. I propose we lift the ban on nuclear testing for Iran and N. Korea if they agree to perform all weapons testing on vuvuzela manufacturing facilities.
  17. Amusing that you post a California magazine reprint of a Buffalo News article on a Buffalo Bills centric forum

  19. Has anyone found a printer friendly version of the TV schedule?
  20. I most often just see them referred to as the Yanks in soccer articles or headlines
  21. I don't think that is necessary. The norm on this board is to just not start a thread with a score in the Thread Title or any indication in the Thread Title about the outcome such as Yanks Rout Redcoats. Then you can still come to board but just avoid the World Cup thread until you watch whatever you recorded.
