Away Games You Plan To Attend
plenzmd1 replied to The Real Buffalo Joe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just a heads up..just canceled a 3 bed Airbnb on Chicago Street for Packer Weekend. All in less than $300 a night, bout a mile and a helf from Lambeau. Our group grew so i needed a bigger place. But if someone was looking for a place to stay that weekend, that should be back up on the AIRBNB site. It was no doubt best deal at 4PM on schedule day( or whenever the leak came out). As a bonus, we have just upgraded to a house about a block from Lambeau!!!! -
Don't get me started on that!! Not to long ago on here I made my point I think its a travesty there is a statue of a guy who played one year in Buffalo and killed himself cause he was driving hammered and stoned. And I am old enough that I still remember watching Horton play and the argument back then was if he ws the strongest guy in the NHL...we all loved him! Now, onto ROR. I just finished a workout and listened to the first hour of GR this morning. They referenced this article https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/canadiens-bergevin-came-close-hitting-marks-draft-weekend/ Wow, ROR was going for the 11th pick had the board fallen differently???? I can't believe that's all they could get..and tells me they want him gone and outta that room.

he needs more than his batteries recharged..he needs an infusion of excitement and joy , and stop being Debbie freaking downer after every game. Casey no way ready to be 2nd line center..that's why I said both Max and Skinner better be throw-ins..or the Sabres need a better plan than Casey getting 2nd line minutes..that will be a recipe for disaster in my mind.
-
If GMJB trades O'riely and either Skinner or Max is the main piece coming back I will be pissed, especially after paying that bonus( i know, not my money and doesn't affect cap, but its the principle!) If they are throw-ins, I get it. Both getting up there, both have one year left on their deals, both UFA's next year.

Bought this car , same exact color in between sophomore and junior year in college for $600. My dad detailed cars in his retirement, so I used for a year, he cleaned it up like a champ, we sold for $1500 and split the profit! Plymouth Scamp BTW -

Yep, just thought you were making the point the loss was DUE to the Blitz..which i do not believe it was. And my read of the situation was not panic, but taking advantage of the loss under Guild rules t to make changes they most likely wanted to make..but were prevented from doing so under the CBA

that column as long as hell, and I have no desire to read it again...but I am fairly certain the Blitz had ZERO to do with the quarterly losses. Yes they were hoping for 100K subs(edit) here is the exact quote from the article Connelly denies promising 100,000 subscriptions. The Buffalo News would need 83,000 total digital subscriptions to pay for their newsroom, according to a memo distributed to staff. He says they didn’t go into the BN Blitz model with a plan for how many subscriptions they would sell because the business model could be changed relatively quickly. “We would figure out very quickly what worked and what didn’t,” said Connelly, citing digital page view numbers as an example. “It didn’t feel very high stakes because you can ramp something up quickly, and you can ramp something down overnight.” That type of short-term adjustment is commonplace in digital media, but not common in the newspaper industry. That may have been what rubbed some writers the wrong way. “I thought they were starting to lose their way as a newspaper and becoming more of a business,” said Gleason of the motivation behind the moves. ( btw, the 83k would pay for the entire newsroom, not just the sports desk) Now, appears the established guys felt they were left out of this decision process and are killing the model..shcoking! They wanted to the business like a ....BUSINESS.. n if they got zero subs the sunk costs were minimal, and I do not believe the ongoing expense was much of anything. Spinning up a site with content generated by folks already under contract does not place much of an additional cost burden on the paper. Is it your contention that absent the Blitz that none of the restructuring would be happening?

Sammy Watkins classes it up on his way out of LA
plenzmd1 replied to Rigotz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have not read that anywhere..where did yu see that? I am hoping that's true...i really fear this guy being the real deal and the Bills looking for another solution in 2 years -
where did you read the Blitz lost money? I don't remember seeing that. If I remember the Rumblings article correctly, Connoly stated they tried the Blitz as its an easy ramp up and easy to exit with no huge sunk costs. Now guys like Sullivan and Gleason thought that was turning a newspaper into a fansite, and I get the opposition they may have had to that. But I also get traditional newspaper revenue model is disappearing, and new things have to be tried. In Silicon Valley, that attempt would be applauded, and only part of failure that is critized is if you do not see the mistake soon enough. @KD in CA can attest to this. But I am fairly certain the Blitz had ZERO to do with them losing money.

Well, you think it would go up a tad if the Sabres pay that bonus. Weird on in the NHL the cap hit goes to the new team..even if the Sabres pay it. I kinda would like to see something similar in the NFL..where a team could trade a portion or even all the prorated portion of a bonus to the new team..think it could spark more trades..which i love

Darby - starting to make sense now
plenzmd1 replied to Deadstroke's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And he had Gaines coming back from the Rams..better fit in the scheme than Darby. Not so sure on the WR thing..think they are happy as can be Sammy is gone..but agree they wanted to get more out on Matthews and would rather have him and that 3rd round pick then having to trade for KB.
