They need to be careful with this in my opinion. I'd like to see the guy run a slant, crossing pattern, or square-in once in a while before they throw 7 or 8 million a year at him. I understand that Losman's problems may have played a role in Evans developing into a deep threat only, but nonetheless that's his reputation right now.
I wouldn't be crushed to give him a 3 or 4 games to show that he's not one-dimensional before they re-sign him. I'm sure he's not afraid to go over the middle on a consistent basis...but I'd like to see it happen before big money is tied up in a guy that might just be a very, very dynamic #2 receiver.
That is not his reputation. You really can't be serious. How many deep balls did he catch last year? He runs great routes and is difficult to cover. He is a No.1 receiver.

Also Ko's a FS and George is an SS, right?
No, Wilson played FS last year. I think Simpson will win the job.

I don't see any name calling in the post you cite.
Thin skin?
I mean it was intelligently stated and if you are offended by that, then a message board environment probably isn't for you.
I did not mean to imply you were name calling. I was going to but I stopped. Message boards are fine with me and I don't have thin skin. It's people who go on rants and will not accept other's opinions that bother me.

No, I'm not kidding. Cap went up 7% from '07 to this year. It went up just under 7% from '06 to '07. It went up almost 20% from '05 to '06.
You were saying...
Since you know so much about the cap, if there is a reason why it's going up for later years in contracts down the road, it has absolutely nothing to do with the current cap. It has to do with the notion that '10 becomes an uncapped year and there's evidence that there are enough owners to keep it that way as the CBA dissolves permanently. So some clubs are signing deals apparently with this in mind and teams for which money is actually no issue.
But once again, we're in the weeds on this one. Signing Brad Butler, Spencer Johnson, Kawika Mitchell, Kyle Williams, etc. to more money than Peters is getting is just wrong!
We could lose three of those guys and not have it make the impact that will occur if Peters doesn't play.
Peters would have been making much more than he is now with a rookie contract had he come into the league as one of the top two ranked LTs. He came in as mystery meat and as a TE/OL tweener with no experience.
HE'S AN EXCEPTION!!!
Hello!
Is there a reason you can not make your case intelligently without trashing anyone who has a different opinion than yours? I don't like name calling on message boards, but you have issues.

The salary cap from a percentage standpoint hasn't escalated anymore than it has in past years perhaps less than in most. Get the facts on that.
But in our case our team salary is escalating due to player extensions to guys like Brad Butler who hasn't proven a damn thing yet, Spencer Johnson a backup to date, Kyle Williams a very nominal starter tops, Derrick Dockery making over twice what Peters is a G, and Walker who plays RT making significantly more also.
It cracks me up, the ones of you claiming to want this team to do the best seem to be the ones that think that this situation isn't unreasonable.
You should all join the Front Office because you think identically and make excuses with the best of them.
Are you kidding? Check how much the cap went up since the new CBA was signed. Especially the 1st year.

Folks, ESPN has said that a few teams including AFC teams have been in contact with the Packers about Bret Favre. Let me be the first to say that I think he would be a huge asset to our team and immediately get us over the hump into the playoffs. In fact I may run out today and get a Bills jersey and have the number 4 and Favre put on the back of it. I would be interested in what others have to say.
Actually, you would not be the 1st. There are numerous threads discussing this.
-
I don't think it's a bluff at all. He'll sit out and play the last six like other players do.
He knows that the team will eventually fork over whatever they can if they did it for Docker, Walker, Williams and guys like Peerless Price to a lesser extent.
He also knows that this team doesn't have a chance in hell of improving offensively if he's not here.
The Bills balls are in a vice on this one and Peters' hand is on the handle.
Not necessarily. The Bills may suffer short term with out Peters, but if he sits out he will have a hard time collecting all that lost money.$15,000.00 a day adds up and he is under contract for 3 more years.
-
That is really the only leverage Peters and his agent have. This is just posturing. Another Parker client, Devin Hester, also made the EXACT same threat.
As a veteran, Peters really doesn't need that much camp. So, as worrisome as this may be, he'll be there in September.
Normally I would agree but we have a new OC and they are installing a lot of new things to the offense.
-
Not so simple. Peters did take a bonus and re-sign because he was probably playing for the NFL minimum, or close to it. In this instance, the Bills had all the leverage.
Now, the tables have turned. You have a probowl LT making less than Dockery, let alone Fowler who is average at best. Any sane person can see the inequity of this equation. Can you? Yes or no?
Yes, I can see it. Do you think Peters and his agent are going about this the correct way? Don't you think there should be some communication from their end?
-
It's a lot harder when you don't even look.
Knowing Peters was an issue (health or contract), Brandon Albert would have at least given them an option at LT.
They have a very good starting LT under contract for the next 3 years. That's why they did not look for another.
-
I don't take it personally but I refuse to pay for a bad product. I know that puts me in the minority.
Isn't it great to have that choice? If it bothers you so much then don't pay.
-
I had raised the point earlier.
Peters has not shown that he is recovered from his serious injury.
Unlikely the Bills throw money at him until they can validate that he is recovered.
No problem, though, because the Bills are absolutely loaded with talent to fill in until his return.
Good thing the Bills planned ahead knowing that Peters ended the season unable to play.
Because it's so easy to find good LT these days.
-
He is under contract and required to be at camp. If he does not show I'm sure they will contact him to let him know he will be fined $15,000.00 per day missed. If he is unhappy about his contract his agent should tell the Bills. If there has been no contact, how are the Bills to know he is unhappy?
-
1. NFL contracts are not guaranteed 2. he was a RT when he signed the contract 3. He made a Pro-bowl which is a general condition for renegotiation 4. Schobel, Kyle Williams, Brad Butler sets the stage and none of them are played at the level that Jason Peters played at last year.
When FA sign big contracts, a large portion is guaranteed. While Clements won't see his $80M, $22M of it is guaranteed.

What would it take to get this guy....
You say not to beat a dead horse but that is exactly what you are doing.

If you were building a team, pick one from each two to start with:
Bruce Smith or Steve Tasker
Reggie White or Steve Tasker
John Elway or Steve Tasker
Jerry Rice or Steve Tasker
Now tell me, did any of those take much thinking? Tasker may have been the best ever at what he did- I think he was. Still, the Hall of Fame needs to be more exclusionary than inclusionary. Tasker was one of the highest character players I've ever watched, but I don't feel he should be included in the hall of fame. I think Darryl Talley will fall in the same category.
You are comparing him to 1st time - probably unanimous selections - compare him to some lesser types who maybe should not have gotten in.

Now in an effort to save face after informing him of the poll results my brother said to ask you guys what you would call a yellow cake mix with chocolate frosting on it. My answer is a yellow cake. He says yellow is not a flavor and cake is defined by the icing.
I know, my kin is really stupid.
So now the question is what do you call a yellow cake with chocolate icing?
BTW, my brother will stick to an argument no matter how dumb he looks when he's proven wrong and continues to argue.
Vanilla.

Andre Reed should be on that list too.
I feel like crap for not noticing that.
-
I like that list except for Watters.
-
Has Peters been physically cleared to participate in camp?
I do find it interesting that his surgery and recovery have not been discussed.
-
Mary Tyler Moore from the Dick Van Dyke show made me prefer brunettes.

What has Ralph done practically PG to warrant inclusion into the Hall of Fame?
I realize that's sacrilege here, but seriously, what has he done besides buy a team for a song, then move it to the NFL as if that were some really tough decision and one formulated entirely by him?
His teams haven't won a championship in the NFL in almost 40 years! His having one one in the AFL, a league of 8 teams, isn't all that impressive since 6 of 8 teams in that league did in that decade, a couple even when the league was 10 teams. No on talks about San Diego, KC, or Houston in the same context with any credibility.
He's personally fired some of the best and brightest GMs in the business and ones that had a very good track record here and even better ones since leaving!
He's noted for meddling with the teams affairs, never producing anything giving fans reason to thank him and usually only giving fans reason to wish he had just minded his own senile business!
People say he's some great business man, but so what, he bought a team for $25,000, a real stretch in those days (sarcasm), it hit big so that he owns it outright. Kind of a no-brainer. Then he's been as cheap as cheap can be, personally hired some of the stupidest and/or most unqualified people in the business to run his team who in turn hired others equally unqualified and incompetent.
The one time in the history of the franchise where his team sustained any success it was purely by accident due to his then GM having a heart attack and his having to grasp at straws and making a lucky decision with Polian, whom he later fired because of a tiff that Polian had in the office with his daughter, who's been so marvelous at doing something good for this team. (more sarcasm)
I mean seriously, besides this dumb notion that he loves the people of Buffalo more than he does his own family, while living in Detroit and simultaneously having given the fans absolutely nothing on his own or as a direct result of one of his calculated decisions, what has he done that merits Hall entry?
He lent the Pats and Raiders hundreds of thousands of dollars to keep them running and was involved in TV negotiations with the networks and the AFL. He was also involved with the AFL-NFL merger. Maybe this is not enough for the HOF but don't say he not done anything to help Pro Football.

It is an interesting arguement. I see it both ways. My guess is that these other owners who have huge debt loads because of them financing at least partially of their new stadiums, feel like why should we share our revenues from the corporate suites, extra revenues solely based on the building of the new stadiums with a guy that has played in a rent free/debt free stadium for the last 35 years & has not spent one dime on the stadium over that time frame? I actually see their point on that to an extent.
I agree with your last part and I'm not taking Wilson's side completely. I think the part that bothers him is that the cap is raised based on these extra revenues and that's where it hurts him. If the cap is increased by say $10M, it does not mean the Bills made any extra revenue to pay for that increase.

Im very excited for this season opener. I think we will bury the seahawks, and our defense for the first time in a few years is something to get excited about. We are a young team with experiance at the same time. I am excited to see us spread the ball out with a more formidable second WR and I think we put this game away early, no more late comebacks in this one.
Bills 35 hawks 24
Oh Lynch 133 yards 2 TDs
Edwards 270 yds 2 tds 1 int
Evens 8 rec 95 yds 1 td
Hardy 4 rec 67 yds 1 td
McGee KR td 97 yards and 1 pick
I agree about the defense. Still not sure about the offense.
Talks with Evans getting serious?

I don't think he has too many right now. Seems the Bills would extend him with 2 years left. That seems to be the way they are trying to do things. It's not like Peters is going to be poor this year at almost $4M. If he comes in and plays to Pro Bowl level, he gets a huge contract next year. I just think he is asking for a new contract too soon.
