If he was still injured, he could have come in and received treatment without getting fined.
-
A little dramatic...The guy just wants millions and millions of dollars.
-
Walker got traded to the Bears and then got a new contract. He got what he wanted. I'm sure Peters would be happy if we sent him to a team that is willing to pay him.
On the otherhand, we really dodged the bullet with Walker. If Peters is injured and the Bills trade him, it might work out.
Walker got his deal but was cut after 1 year and did not see a lot of money. Talent-wise there is no comparison.
-
If he's going to have to play through little knicks and bumps during the regular season, should he play a series or a quarter a little dinged up in the preseason? We all know playing with injury is a MAJOR part of being a professional football player.
-OR-
That's stupid...No sense running him out there if he's not 100%. These games mean nothing and are not worth a few extra reps.

If it has even reached the point where numbers have been tossed around. Doesn't sound like they even got that far. I think that if they were at a point where they were just trying to find the right number and had already conceded that he should get a new deal, he would have come to camp. No way for us to know for sure. Could be that Brandon thinks Levy was wrong to extend Schobel with 3 years left on his existing deal and doesn't want to make the same mistake.
I have to believe some numbers were mentioned. Could be Parker said $15M per year, The Bills said no way and here we are.
-
I think it is the team that handled it better. According to Overdorf, they approached Schobel's people as early as February of 2007 and started negotiating a new deal for him, acknowledging from the get-go that he deserved one. For whatever reason, they have no intention of extending Peters the way they did Schobel and it has nothing to do with what Parker or Peters has done. I think it might be because Marv was running the show in February of 2007 and Brandon has been running the show since January. Otherwise, I have no idea why they are treating Peters so drastically different than they did Schobel.
I know, I know, I know, the situations are not exactly alike to the thousandth decimal. They are close enough though and for every difference people can cite justifying better treatment for Schobel, the other side could cite just as many in favor of Peters.
Only thing I can think of is Peters demands are too extreme.

The biggest problem with the Peters saga is that teh Bills are representing the ENTIRE LEAGUE in this. Here, the club has to protect the language of NFL contracts and hold a palyer to his agreement and writting regardless of whether they need him in camp. WIlson has to protect the negotiation tactics of all NFL owners. Peters and Parker know this and they know that Wilson is desparate to have a left tackle finally -- since Will Wolford left to the COlts 12-14 years ago.
If I were Wilson, I would give Peters an incentive laden contract. play to get paid. the bonus or guaranteed money should be low as peters was injured and only has one probowl under his belt.
the AFC has terrible left tackles -- how good is peters anyway? is he as good as ogden? tarik gleen? Jon tait? Peeters was a backup TE at arkansas. he was not a high first rounder who has the pedigree to get paid for his resume and his ONE GOOD SEASON. a harvard law grad who had a good first yr at a firm is going to make more money than a Univ. bufflao grad who had a good season. simple truth.
Parker is a punk. He, like other agents, is too involved in the process. Are these advocates or lawyer trourble makers? He mustprotect his cleint, but is he doing a service to a guy who is breaching his contract? the rules of professional responsibily should be reviewed and it maybe Parker should be levied ethic violations...
and why would Peters agree to this??

The only activities should be drinking, eating, and throwing a FOOTBALL!!
-
I think he will play. I think he needs to play. What do you guys think?
Why does he need to play? He needs to play Sept 7th!
-
What got him fired was not getting rid of his incompetent friend, Ronnie Jones. Worst Assistant coach in history.

It was partly a joke.
Plus I'm not that comfortable doing a GIS of a potentially smokin' female from my work computer.
Good point!

Link?
Not hard to look up.

If JP starts Sunday and plays well, I think we'll have a good old fashioned QB controversy on our hands...
I know he has taken the high road, but if he plays and plays well, the murmers will begin, "JP would be better than Trent in this offense, more athletic...", "the only reason that Trent looks good is he has better tools at his disposal...just look at how well JP did...".
You know it's inevitable - the News needs to sell papers and we need a good old fashioned controversy on the board to ingnite the masses...
JP crashing badly would be best for all interested parties...
No we won't.

Sorry to hear that. That must have been tough to deal with.
Thanks. It was very difficult to see that happen to someone so close to you. It's sad but most do not survive pancreatic cancer.
-
Why would you cut young, talented TE's for an old washed up vet that hasn't done anything in about 5 years?
because we have heard of him!! C'MON!! ( for any Arrested Development fans)
-
Yes, may she rest in peace. I too am sorry for your loss.
Thanks Bill.

Bless her soul.
Thanks. Very appreciated.

My mother passed from pancreatic cancer. It is a horrible and painful way to die. At least he not suffering anymore.

If you want to talk about the law, the NFL is a monopoly, if any player challenged that in court, they would eventually win the right to be free agents signing with the highest bidder right out of college. That is why no team that I am aware of has ever taken a player to court for breach of contract. The NFL knows this, the agents know this, the union knows this and the players know this. That is why holdouts are not exactly rare despite your infantile understanding of contract law.
As for Parker being a "punk", he could buy and sell you with the spare change stuck in the seats in his limo. His client list attests to his track record of success. The odds of any of us guessing what his long term strategy is for Peters is not very likely.
As has been pointed out many times, this hold out is costing Peters nothing. He may report in time to avoid losing any game pay and what he will accomplish is setting the table for next year. The team will know he is serious, will not want to go through repeat of this next year. The team has carefully avoided any public committment to renegotiate if Peters shows up. For all we know, Parker's strategy is to get them to make that committment publicly so that they can force them to deal as soon as steps into the locker room, something the team is clearly not willing to do at present. We don't know.
In the face or our ignorance of what is really going on, you can either assume that an experienced agent with a long track record of success and an impressive client list suddenly has turned in to an idiot or you can assume that he knows what he is doing even if we don't.
Being called a punk has nothing to do with how much money a person has.

Agreed. They need Peters signed. It's as simple as that. He's one of the best lineman in the league but always starts off a bit slow. I hope this isn't a complete wash of a season for him because he's missed the entire training camp, but we're a better team with Peters then without. It's really that simple.
He is signed.

Another Donahoe mess Marv had to clean up.

Sorry, I guess I presumed everybody checked the TwoBillsDrive site every hour like me...

He's a football player, not a warrior. Hate that cliche. When is a good time to get hurt?
