Best wishes to them.

There's no definitive proof that they never went, but it's unlikely they did. People are turned away from testing sites if they don't exhibit symptoms, but they're not turned away from hospitals. Doctors are also advising patients to stay away from hospitals unless they absolutely have to go. Lastly, demographics play a major role, and it's known than a large number of blacks & Hispanics don't trust the medical profession. This is the quote from the NYC health official in the Gothamist article that first flagged the issue

I use Avi's site as well, because he tracks the entire world.

New York finally hit a net negative for hospitalizations this week.

They weren't refused. These are the people who never went to the hospital and died at home. NY EMTs say that they're making many more calls like this than in a normal day before April.

China can't help being China "New Chinese export restrictions have left American companies’ U.S.-bound face masks, test kits and other medical equipment urgently needed to fight the coronavirus stranded, according to businesses and U.S. diplomatic memos. Large quantities of critical protective gear and other medical goods are sitting in warehouses across China unable to receive necessary official clearances, said some suppliers and brokers."

Answering the question that was asked why people are focusing on the racial impact of this virus. Blacks and Hispanics are dying at twice the rate of whites and three times that of Asians.
-
NYC and Illinois deaths are heavily skewed towards blacks and Hispanics.

The comments were certainly crass. But the right context was him bragging of what he could do, now that he was a MEDIA CELEBRITY. He was amazed that if he wanted to, he could get away with a hell of a lot more by being a media celebrity, than by being a mere billionaire. That's the context that many media celebrities wanted to ignore and made it out to be that he actually sexually assaulted women. Of course, two years later, reality caught up to many of those media celebrities. -

It's fair to give a margin of error on the undocumented cases. But until last week, all NYS Wuhan-related deaths were tested positive - and they all were running at multiples of historic trends.
-
You can do a simple extrapolation of normal morbidity to what the current rates are. Use the Quebec example above - 31 in 2 weeks, vs 4 in a month. These figures are consistent when a senior facility is infected. And NYC hasn't eliminated the heart attacks & strokes. If anything, NY EMTs report a significant increase for cardiac arrest calls during this break out. Just because it's not reported, doesn't mean it's not happening. There's a reason NYC funeral homes are backed up into May.
-
In NYS, the only number that may be in question is the additional 3,700 that NYC will be adding based on EMT's reports. All other cases attributed to Wuhan had tested positive for the virus prior to death. This is the exact causation of the virus vs the correlation argument many are making. It doesn't matter if there were pre-existing conditions, without the virus very few of these people would die at this exact time.
-
Then don't talk about these numbers being "cooked" by somebody, because the numbers are what they are.
-
The 149/day number is NYC only, not the metro area. If you're looking at the metro area, the toll is much higher, because the NJ-commuter counties are also getting hammered.
-
Can you let go of the ***** conspiracy angle maybe for a minute? People can fudge a lot of data. But they cannot fudge the death rolls. The real number that cannot be faked is the number of bodies that the city has to deal with. And that number is at least 10K higher than in any other year. This fall's and winter's flu was a bear, but NYC deaths didn't spike. But they surely did starting in late march. That's the reality. Now, tell me what is your theory of why suddenly 10K New Yorkers are no longer with us, if not for the Wuhan virus.
-
They were under-counted until last week, because NYC didn't do posthumous testing. NYC is going to classify an additional 3,700 as Wuhan-related deaths.
-
This is a sickness. You cannot fake a death. Since April 1, there have been over 10K more deaths in NYS than in a normal year. That's the real number. Now tell me how that is padded. Explain the additional 10K deaths over a normal year? Are Cuomo & Diblasio driving around the state with execution trucks? The refrigerated trailers outside NYC hospitals are all for show?
-
How and who in the world is padding the numbers in NY? What's the incentive? Are you so desensitized to the situation downstate that you ignore reality?
-
I don't understand why you're insisting that NY is "padding" the death count. Average daily deaths in NYC are 150. Since the beginning of April, the daily count in NYC has been 400-500 higher than normal. How in the world is that padding the numbers? What's the incentive? It's sickening enough that people were claiming taht the videos of Hart Island burials were faked. These people deserve better.

Same discussion as before. NYC life expectancy is 81.2, higher than national average BTW. The last available official stats are from 2017, and based on actual data, there were avg 149 deaths/day.
-
This has been discussed before. The normalized number of deaths in NYC are 150-200/day. It's important to get both the historic & new numbers. NYC deaths are still high, but new cases are dropping. NJ is now the epicenter as it's about 5 days behind NYC
-
The issue is that these cases weren't tested at all, and the city is basing it on the reporting of the EMT call. It's especially acute because for two weeks EMTs have been under orders not to bring in cardiac arrest patients to hospitals if they cannot revive the person in the field.
