There should be a national dialogue in getting back to work
GG replied to Magox's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Notwithstanding the commentary here, the vast majority of US public doesn't have the capability to store large amounts of perishable food. That's why it will never hit the toilet paper stage. In the first weeks of the panic some idiots thought it would be a good idea to hoard milk & eggs. -
Only made possible because Tyson & Smithfield are not allowed to close.

NYS is doing better too. NJ had a higher number of new cases and deaths than NY. It's about a week behind in its trendlines.

How about using his real words? “I’d love to have it open by Easter, OK? I would love to have it open by Easter. I will tell you that right now,” “It’s such an important day for other reasons, but I’ll make it an important day for this, too,” he added. “I would love to have the country opened up and just raring to go by Easter.”

Hey remember the heat that Trump received for suggesting that he'll start looking at reopening the economy over Easter? Guess on which weekend the peak hit in NYS?

I think that the 75% capacity shows how much overall food waste is built into the food supply. -

They also missed the glaring No that was Adolphus Washington. -
Do you ever run out of supply of stupid comments? Do you enjoy trolling in what's supposed to be a serious topic? Do you care that the entire food supply chain could collapse if a handful of key meat packing plants at the food giants are shut down? There are a hell of a lot more companies that can make ventilators than the choke points that can emerge in the food supply. Unless you're channeling your inner Bloomberg, but the consequences of restarting a farming cycle is a bit more critical than the automakers halting auto production for 8 weeks.

That's if you think that a rural area can be fully self sufficient from end to end. But in reality, few places will have the full complement of agri-products. I'm glad Tyson shined a light on this issue, because it could have spiraled very quickly. -

Looks like Tyson's warning had the desired outcome. Call it the halo effect. What's good for the large meat packers is good for the food supply in general. You don't want to start a cascade down to the farms if you start closing key facilities. You're also risking a disparate impact where the rural areas will suffer more than urban centers. -

The article also pours salt on the wound of the pathetic 2016 Bills draft. -

The ad was meant for the governors not to get trigger happy to mandate closing meat processing plants. So far, meat processors are at 75% capacity, which is perfectly workable with the restaurant industry shut down. There's little risk of shortages at this point, unless people start panic buying. I don't see that happening, because most people don't have the proper storage to keep a lot of perishable food. -
That's why it totally makes sense for Los Angelinos to be ordered to stay at home on 90 degree sunny days.

Korea's testing simply confirmed the self diagnosis by the individuals. Plus, 98K tests represents a small percentage (0.2%) of its population. For the tests to be fully effective like you think they were, a much higher proportion would have had to be tested. The results also weren't instantaneous, leaving a long period from test to diagnosis. Which means that in reality, SK did something else to stop the virus spread. The tests affirmed what people suspected, but social practices and self-quarantines were a greater factor than the minuscule test numbers.
-
Not when it comes from a novel virus that spreads quickly and for which tests either don't exist yet or don't provide instant results with +90% certainty. Nobody had that in place in January, not SK, not Singapore, etc. The Asian countries slowed the spread by practicing their cultural norms.
-
Testing alone would not have slowed the spread. Contrary to the taglines, SK didn't halt the spread through testing. They did it by practicing their usual customs during viral outbreaks. Testing is a lagging indicator.

Exactly. Why time this thing to when the flu season picks up again? -
Scraps appreciates you doing his homework. Which gets back to my response - was NYS at all shortchanged on the needed equipment? Or was this Cuomo negotiating through the media?
-
Then you'll have no problem specifying exactly which supply chain that Cuomo had an issue with and when.
-
Has any state faced a shortage of needed equipment? Was the Federal government the responsible party for the primary supply chain for the states? Did the Federal government threaten to use the national guard to appropriate equipment?
-
Did Trump & Pence sign an executive order confining nursing home residents to a certain death?

Just say it's the Wuham bioweapon, and he'll soil his keyboard.

The running similarities are uncanny -
Now imagine the outrage if the head of the Federal government signed an order that prevented nursing homes from mandating a Wuhan virus test prior to admission or readmission? Where have most fatalities occurred? But, yeah, let's zero in on drinking Lysol.
