Nobody on the right would have faulted a failed mission in Pakistan, because most on the right don’t consider Pakistan a trusted ally. Obama would have gotten credit for finally having a back bone to follow through on a threat, unlike anything else in his tenure. The perfect parallel is Carter’s failed attempt to rescue the hostages. He wasn’t criticized for the action, but for the emblematic lack of detail and preparedness during an administration that also viewed the military as the enemy. There’s no double standard. Obama was and is an empty suit.

The only reason his administration is painted in a favorable light is because there’s very little objectivity about his accomplishments. Real history will not be kind once we’ve gone through a decade or so, and the varnish of his empty suit fades. The two items that people point to as his great achievements are killing Bin Laden and getting the country out of a recession - both decisions that a 12-yr old would have approved. Nobody with a proper understanding of economics has been able to explain Obama’s extraordinary policies that pulled the economy out of the recession.

And this is part of the reason that his presidency was a failure. The actions never caught up to the rhetoric. The epitome of an empty suit.

That's a hard one to answer unless you provide the total state tax deductions. Plus, the higher you go in the income scale, state tax deductions don't matter because they go away with the AMT calculation anyway. The other goal for eliminating deductions that are big in the blue states, is to highlight the local and state taxes which were somewhat masked by the fed deduction.
