How 'bout these Big Ben numbers?
nodnarb replied to Greg de'Ville's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
i hope big ben isn't as good as he looks. no rookie should be that good. it should be illegal. he is so eerily calm out there, especially for a rookie. that's what you want to see. he has a Brady-like calmness about him. He makes the Steelers MUCH, MUCH better. We tried to get him, but couldn't find a trade partner. Hopefully, Losman will be just as good. I don't know how you get much better. -
Sorry Bossman, but I wouldn't know you if you stood up in my soup. And many of us are accustomed to seeing (serious) posts along those lines. If Rosen or LaBillz or todd had said that, I"d have known.

Sam Adams benched apparently
nodnarb replied to MadBuffaloDisease's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
mularkey said it was just a case where edwards was "on" and they didn't want to disrupt his rhythm. -
i nominate this for the most idiotic post of the year award. (The MIPYA)

figure of speech, asswipe.

Aren't we all... but I don't believe we can beat the Ravens with the same level of performance. They'll have to take it up a notch.

Before I get slammed, you all know I think Travis is a Very Good Back. I don't believe he'll ever be an ELITE back, however. He's tough, and he deserves respect as a player. But he couldn't have made at least 6 of the plays Willis made today. Willis' legs are so powerful there's only one guy you can compare him to: Edgerrin James. Just when you think they stuffed a run and stopped his forward progress, he'd emerge - somehow - through the pile for an extra 3. He got the hard yards, he made much of little holes (don't forget - the fins have a great run D) and FOUND A WAY TO GET IT DONE, which is the most important aspect of his performance. He shows that "It" that you have to have. Granted, it's only one starting performance, but it was a helluva first performance to get 111 against this defense with an OLine that hasn't exactly been pushing people backwards. And to top it all off, in his postgame interview, Willis was humble. He credited the line and reminded the reporters that Travis is the starter and he's just doing his job. I don't believe Travis would have showed that level of class if he had played in place of an injured Willis.

There might be hope for this team if our line continues to play like that. Drew actually made a play under extreme duress. What's going on here? Game Balls: Drew, Willis, Takeo, R. Edwards, Schobel. Goat: Travis Henry for not supporting his team on the sideline. He sat there like a depressed lump. Sam Aiken, for letting a ball glance off his numbers in a critical 3rd down situation. I stand by my belief that cutting Shaw was a net loss for this team, only because no other receiver (Reed included) have shown us anything.

during camp i made a post about how i saw ron edwards knock the sled over with a right hand punch. That same punch is what bought him that rush lane. Great play. He has an amazing punch - I have never seen a guy knock a OLine sled end over end with a single one-armed hit.

jerry gray is calling the game to lose
nodnarb replied to nodnarb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
i meant to say that he's calling the game to not lose...he's calling soft zones. one sack on this line? a defensive line allowing 6 yards per rush to "prevent" big plays? sad. -
any doubters?

the problem with the idea is he's only signed thru 2005. no team is going to give up a first round pick for a one year contract. so, we'd either have to agree with travis to sign a contract with the idea of transferring the contract to another team, or he'll play out his contract. Before this season, the bills had more leverage than they will at the end of it. with that 1 year contract, travis will either agree to a sign and trade deal, or play out his contract with the bills. the bills are travis' favorite team and always has been. i still think he carries a heavy heart about the travis trade for this reason. that's life though, and willis is simply a more complete back. He hasn't had a chance to prove it much yet, but we all know what travis can and cannot do. (or what he cannot do well or with consistency) it'll be interesting. i like travis and he's done a lot for the team but i like what mcgahee is likely to bring to the table even more.

if that was a valid criteria to cut a player with obvious value to other teams, then: 1. Bledsoe would have been cut due to not seeing the field, taking bad sacks at the worst times, not getting rid of the ball, not throwing it away, not shuffling to create more space for himself, missing the route adjustment with moulds, fumbling the ball to give a game away, and any other number of offenses that qood quarterbacks don't make. 2. Mike Williams would have been cut due to his being shredded by LBs in Oakland. 3. Jonas Jennings would have been cut due to his being shredded by Abraham in NY 4. Reed would have been cut for continuing to produce nothing 5. Travis Henry would have been cut for missing holes, tripping, and missing blocks 6. Takeo SPikes would have been cut for missing two key tackles in the Jets' final winning drive. 7. McGee would have been cut for getting picked on and not making a play all day. It goes on and on...Shaw has more production through 4 games than Reed, and has had about 1/3 the opportunities. These arguments are baseless.
-
I respectfully disagree with the implied conclusions, Lori. Telling him he was #5 on the depth chart would have been enough of a "message". The fact remains that Shaw has outproduced Reed, despite having fewer opportunities. If "production" is the reason, the decision made no sense. If players are going to be cut for a lack of production, why was Bledsoe re-signed to a 3 year extension? What has he done for the Bills, I mean really?
-
He meant nothing? Does Josh Reed mean nothing? No? Well how do you explain the fact that Shaw has OUTPRODUCED Reed ever since he arrived in Buffalo? He meant nothing? Why were the players so obviously shocked and dismayed by his release? He meant nothing? Watch the Schitt hit the fan for this offense if we have an injury there. And watch Shaw perform well for the Pats. Bobby is an underrated receiver who is being used to send a message about missed assignments. If that was the approach the team takes with players, Bledsoe would have been released after the Raiders game. He was pathetic. I'm tired of being positive and then disappointed. As much as i like mike mularkey, he hasn't shown me anything, and this decision smacks of desperation and scapegoating.
-
It's simple. THe "official reason" for releasing him was a lack of production. fact: Reed has been above him on the depth chart for two years. fact: Shaw has outplayed Reed both years, despite being lower on the DC. How does this translate to "not enough production" while Reed is given a pass? The answer is transparent and shallow. I was thrilled about MM. Now he's going to have to earn my respect. Right now I'm starting back at scratch. Show me something, Mike.
-
maybe you haven't been paying attention, but the patriots coaches are better than ours. They're better than any other team's coaching staff. time and time again they turn castoffs into producers. they know how to identify what motivates players, and what they do best. and they know how to put them in positions to produce. And they do. Shaw's value as a WR just went way up. I'll take any bet that he produces more than Josh Reed.
-
If the players had reacted to it in such a way that suggested there was something we don't know, I wouldn't say a word. But they were all shocked and dismayed by the move. That tells me it was a "message" move because Shaw let a hot read bounce off his back. Shaw has outplayed Reed this season, and last. Why didn't Reed get the boot? You can't convince me that this was a smart move. Make us weaker at a key position and make our biggest rival stronger at a position of need. That's not how you make ground in your division. And we got nothing for it. I was hopeful. But I'm not impressed. They've shown us NOTHING.
-
I have to admit, as much as I like Mularkey, my respect for his approach to the team continues to go in the wrong direction. Shaw's release was so fuggin transparent...a desperate move of a desperate team to send a message that they're not going to tolerate mental mistakes. But the team's 3-season stretch of losing has already told the world that they ARE going to tolerate mental mistakes. I've run out of ammo to defend the Bills front office. We just solved a serious problem for them. They had 2 healthy receivers. Now they have 3. Watch him produce, Mike. Ridiculousl

If the bills lose, there will be no excuses anymore. "Close" won't cut it. "We're beating ourselves" won't cut it. Because GOOD PLAYERS don't CONTINUE to "beat themselves". If the Bills lose, we'll know a lot about ONE BILLS DRIVE as well as the players. The losses already have begun to reflect on the scouting, offseason additions, coaching and strategizing. If we lose to the Fins, no matter what the score or reason, the time for repeating their same old cliches will be over. The blame will HAVE to fall at One Bills Drive. How could it not?
