  1. What he said. Although a healthy Stroud is quite a bit more then just "an improvement over Tripplett." Otherwise I agree. As far as Schobel not being an elite de. Depends on the definition of elite. I happen to agree. Only because, I wouldn't rank Schobel as a top 5 defensive end. Top 15 sure. Elite to me though is that no doubt top 5 grouping. He'd be better, if he wasn't surrounded by questionable/unproven dt's, and the fodder that is the defensive end depth opposite him. Hopefully The Ellis comparisions to Daryll Tapp turn out to be true.
  2. Rookie wise I'm gonna be keeping an eye on Chris Ellis. The prospect of an edge rusher besides schobel on this team is nice. I like what I saw out of him in college, and believe he has a nice upside. Seeing Kelsay less and less on 3rd downs as the season wears on will be a good thing imo. Otherwise I'm keeping an eye on McCargo and Spencer Johnson. This is the biggest key to how the season will shake out defensively. If both can take that next step foward, we could have a productive defense, that not while tops in the league, can give us a measure of respectability, and a lot less sieve like. Interior to exterior pressure, and run control. I'm also looking at Kawika Mitchell. I can't shake his horrible play pre giants out of my mind. He adds size to the lb core, but I question whether or not he was a fluke last season with the gmen. Also Ko Simpson and how he returns from injury. Our secondary depth was terrible and it showed last year. A healthy safety tandem with Whitner/Simpson will do wonders.
  3. Seems like a fair ranking, 1 good edge rusher, and a rotational player posing as a starter by default options, until Chris Ellis can prove otherwise. Unknown dt situation. This whole "We don't have a starter at dt" rhetoric annoys me. Ideally you should have 2 players, who can start the majority of snaps. Yeah rotation is nice, but the idea is rotation for the sake of rotation says you don't trust the guys you have. Your defense shouldn't be on the field for that many plays in a game that you're seeing your #3 and #4 dt's all that much. If you are it's cause your defense is generally really bad. Sub packages, are one thing, a 50/50 split, speaks to lack of talent. I probably would rank them lower. Stroud is nice, and hopefully McCargo, can take that next step. Spencher Johnson is a question mark, and Kyle Williams is good depth. The de's other then Schobel are all blah.
  4. No and I don't claim to be an expert on the in's and outs of defensive end play within nfl schemes. While I would love to have the ability to watch countless film, I don't. I can only go off what I see on the field. I don't see where ellis is "too small" to be an everydown player either. Compared to some of of the top ends in the game today. The majority of which are thinner players. Ellis is what 6'5 250? A similar height/weight to Schobel. Jason Taylor made a crazy productive career off being lanky. As well as a lot of dends around the league. A tampa 2 defense, doesn't call for hold your ground de's. It's a pressure oriented scheme. Inside to out. I heard the rhetoric about Kelsay proving his doubters wrong last year to. I'm gonna agree to disagree. I don't dislike the guy. He has a spot on an nfl team. He's far from a terrible player. I just think he's inadequate as a starting caliber player. Aaron Smith btw is a 3-4 end. He's also about 30lbs heavier then Kelsay. There's really no comparison. Smith is one of the better 3-4 ends in the game, outside of Richard Seymour. While the Bills are in a defense that's about collapsing the pocket, and getting after the qb. As far as it goes between Kelsay/Denney. That's a good point. I'd also venture to say Denney imo is a better all around player then Kelsay. He's stronger, holds up space better, and is just as quick. Cause of his height he's ideal for batting down passes at the los. He's kind of stiff in his play, and the explosion isn't there, but it's an interesting comparison to sit on. While getting sacks isn't the be all end all. BTW I much more value, the pressure aspect then sack totals. Kelsay isn't really a player who can do either. I think it speaks volumes to the bills poor 3rd down defense, over the past several seasons. The inability of the ends, to force hurried throws. Im just not a fan of the guy as a starter. As a rotation player we could do a hell of a lot worse.
  5. I'm willing to bet Kelsay is as good as he's gonna get. I think 2005 will be his career year, and that his skill level is that of of 2-4 sack guy off the edge and a 40-50 tackle player. He has a rather slow first step, he's quick once he gets going, but with a lack of pass rush moves, and poor initial movement, he'll be rather ineffective as a player off the edge on passing downs. I'll even go as far as to predict, that if Chris Ellis picks up the defense quickly, he'll be taking a good pct of Kelsays snaps on passing downs, and will take his starting job, by next season.
  6. First let me say I'm split on whether or not I would want Favre. On one hand, I don't want the guy for a season, then he retires again. On the other hand. The last part of your statement if that's true wouldn't it make sense to ya know get an elite qb? Say what you want, and I really do like Edwards potential, but Favre can still play at an elite level. His skill set hasn't really eroded all that much. If the Bills feel they're close to being an "elite team". It would just make sense imho to get a top notch qb, while one could possibly be had.
  7. 5 pages and I dont see a single mention of Aunt Becky http://htfvidcaps.dyndns.org/soggo/mvc/svc...NightBefore.jpg And I always kind of had a thing for Amy Brenneman from Judging Amy http://www.jpnearl.com/blog/wp-content/upl...2007/09/lg1.jpg and Linda Cardellini http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p183/sy...7819/lindac.jpg As others have mentioned Lauren Graham is a no brainer. Props to the dude who listed the chick from the George Lopez show.
  8. Simply horrible. If you want to sit watching a football game, then stay the hell home.
  9. Bobo and Joy, just need to give JP a fair chance. They'll eventually get it right.
  10. I hear ya man, but you know me. The giants were built almost to the exact T, the way I like to see a football team. Not only that, but I'll root for pretty much anyone vs the Pats. Well except the Jets/Cowboys
  11. Let me know When backup offensive linemen are gonna stop the Patriots from torching our defensive backfield. Sure depth is important, but it's less important then quality defensive starters.
  12. Good lord let's hope he doesn't go that route. Much rather he didnt keep a gun in a bucket outside of a car wash and then shoot someone with it, or choke a kid at the pro bowl.
  13. Nate Clements- Pat Williams was a devestating interior presence, and a key component of any good defense is interior linemen. Nate though was a rare kind of corner you could leave on a island, and could match up with the best of them. The guy was a play maker. Yes all corners, are prone to giving up plays, but more often then not, Nate would handle his side of the field. It's pretty relevant we went from a top 10 pass defense in 06 to a bottom 3 pass d this past season. He was a good open field tackler, a solid punt returner, and had a knack for the pick. My favorite Nate Clements moment was the dolphins game in 03 week 3 @ miami (Yes I know we lost) When he ran across the field to pick off of a pass intended for chambers, who had just burnt Winfield off the line, and looked to be in the clear.
  14. Money is hardly the issue. It's money to the wrong people. Kelsay thus having to extend Schobel, a few years too early. Even though Schobel is a good player. He had time left on his contract. Overpaying a below average player like Kelsay, was the issue. Letting Pat Williams walk. Signing Larry Tripplett. Not really actively adressing defensive tackle, until this year. Although we still need another major upgrade at dt. Stroud is only here for 3 years, and if he get's injured? Oh boy, that would be attrocious. Otherwise yeah bring in Haynesworth, him and Stroud can be a nasty dt combo.
  15. This is disgusting. However one little issue. If people stoped and saw this guy do this. Why didnt someone I don't know tackle this piece of human filth to the ground? Did a bunch of people stand around going "Oh this is so wrong, but we shouldn't do anything to help this poor innocent child?" Did they ask him nicely to stop? I mean What the !@#$? You see someone ever beating a child to death, either take a blunt object and knock him the !@#$ out, or tackle the waste of oxygen to the ground. I'm not trying to sound like some tough guy here, but at the same time, it just doesn't seem right to me, that a situation arises where it's better to act out a moments notice, then wait for a police officer, when it was very sadly to late to save this kids life.
  16. Seriously. Butler is very good in run blocking, and should only get better when he adds more strength. I believe we actualy led the league in ypc behind RG.
  17. Well ignoring the posturing, of your agenda, and others in the Losman camp. I sadly agree with the second sentence.
  18. Fair is fair. However merely going out and drinking, and being a passenger in a vehicle doesn't make a person posess low character. The other issues with Hardy worry me. However I still wouldn't compare it to that of Chris Henry/Frostee Rucker/Odell Thurman/Aj Nhcholson. Let alone some other players around the league. As far as I'm aware of Lynch doesn't even have a record. Do I agree with his decision/whoever was driving to pull away? No. It's an unfortunate incident, that should've never happened. Should've pulled over, checked to see if the woman was alright, and waited for cops/ambulance to arrive. I just think chastising players, for simply going out and drinking, is a bit ridiculous. With that said, if Lynch/Hardy make this kind of behavoir a trend, they should be dealt with, by the league and the team.
  19. Oh no, a 20 something year old young man, who just got drafted into the NFL, or any young 20 something for that matter, going out and hitting up some bars with friends/teammates. Obviously he is nothing more then a man of low character. There should be lights out at 10pm, and continue to drink his milk and take his vitamins, and say his prayers. Good lord, some of you people, need to step out of your self righteous bubble.
  20. Well if "no heart in the game" Jason Taylor can turn in production defensively like Tiki did his last season over 1600 yards rushing 2100 yards from scrimmage. Then sign the man up. Other then these semantics. I'd pass on Taylor. We're not a team ready to compete for a championship, and would prefer when we replace the below average Kelsay we do it via the draft, with someone younger.
  21. Obviously the development of trent edwards is front and center I'm gonna say John McCargo. Assuming Stroud plays at a high level, we need another dt to step up, cause should stroud get injured. It could turn into an outright disaster with very poor dline depth.
