Robert Royal
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to SageAgainstTheMachine's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Robert Royal can split the seems 30 yards downfield on a weekly basis, even as a decoy, That's a huge upgrade at the position that I simply can not overstate. Stuff like that opens up everything. It keeps safeties out of the box in the run game. Keeps double teams off Evans. Makes reads easier for the quarterback. I still think we need an upgrade at the position, but so far Royal has been impressive. -
Positional Needs in the 2009 Draft
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Astrobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The top dends this year probably George Selvie from USF, and Michael Johnson from Georgia Tech. You can make a case for Greg Hardy as well, and there's a chance all 3 of those guys go in the top 15. Greg Middleton from Indiana is someone I'd keep my eye on as the season progresses. He had a strong 07 with 16 sacks. He doesn't have great height, and not the most athletic guy, but he holds position well, and can get after the qb with good technique. Very good tackler as well. Normally when looking for edge rushers. I'm looking at the first step, but Middleton is a guy who plays with uncanny awareness. -

We need a pass rusher more then we need a center, and there really is no 1st rd prospect at center. I'm not an offensive line guru. Dline is more my thing, but I think on the dline it's more about pure talent, compared to oline, which to me is more about technique, and being taught the right way. I think you can get quality oline play from guys drafted well into later rounds. Elite Pass rushers are harder to come by, and it's a position we sorely need. Hey I liked our defensive performance last Sunday as much as the next guy. However I would over the course of the season like to see more lone pressure fron the front 4, instead of relying on heavy blitzing. With names like Michael Johnson, George Selvie,Greg Hardy, Greg Middleton, and auston english. Next years draft is the year to get that end of the future, and add depth to the team.

"Rooting" Interest for Pats* Jets
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Cornerville's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This a tough one. I can't stand either team, but you know how it is here. So I'm going with Cassell, and the pats* edit: The reason I'm going with NE, other then being exposed to the toxic ganggreen of Jets fans. Is because the way I look at it. The Jets already have a division win. Other then the bills taking care of their business down in Jax. We would be best served in the long run, for the jets to pile up some division losses as well. 2 division wins in back to back weeks isn't a good thing for us. -
ha there's plenty of room

yeah seriously. The jags were in a terrible situation. It's an improvement anyway ya look at it

it's 10-6 theres no world beating going on. Almost half of rodgers passing yards came on one play. He's not embarrsing himself out there, so it's something to build on. -
Lets focus on the Jags now guys.....
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to NavyBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We stopped their run game last season. Bar the one Taylor run. We held MJD to something ridiculous until late in the 4th like -11 yards rushing. Also holding the jags to a bunch of fgs. Honestly the only thing I want to see this week, is consistent 3rd down pressure on Garrard. It was silly stupid, how easy picking up 3rd down coversions for them was. They made our make shift secondary look horrible. Greer and Mcgee played possibly the worst games of their lives, bar the 2nd NE game, where they didn't even try. That's another story for another day. Control the clock, convert 3rd downs, dont turn the ball over, and we have a good chance to walk away with a W. -
Is the Superbowl this week? Who are we playing?
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to CJPearl2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
People have just been too conditioned the past few years to accept mediocrity, and there's a chance we can be better this year. Still a long road ahead, but there's no reason to not be happy. http://www.defenderuniversity.com/assets/U...crity_Large.jpg -

Give Ellison a chance guys.......
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to marauderswr80's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He made some plays with an undermanned defense. It could've been a hell of a lot worse. Ellison is a better player in coverage though. Digi was horrible in that regard. -
Well the fact that Peters is far more athletic, quicker feet, and is more suited to play lt then Walker might. Yes for all intents and purposes Walker is better then what we've seen in the past pre- peters. At least it's not Mike Gandy anymore.... Even the most ardent homer would find it difficult to believe a tackle combo of Walker/Chambers is better then that of Peters/Walker. I'm in the camp of. "I've seen worse, but I'm far from optomistic about this." As far as Ellison/Crowell go. I never thought Crowell was going to be re-signed anyway. I figured Evans deal would be done, and they'd regnotiate with Peters on an extension after this season, while letting Crowell walk, and drafting his replacement in 09. This was before the Peters holdout, and Crowell being put on ir. I looked at lb core this year though as a strength with Mitchell/Poz/Crowell. We've seen Ellison before. We know the song and dance. He's good in pass coverage, but the guy simply gets draged by rb's. It's not similar to the giants situation. Strahan retires. No problem that's why they have osi/tuck/kiwanuka. Lose Osi..... Maybe a bit of problem. Oh wait we have that guy we drafted in the 1st rd 2 years ago. Mathias Kiwanuka, we can just move him back to dend. It's a luxury the Bills surely don't have. I'd like to be as optomistic as possible, but while I see some upside to Ellison playing passing downs. I don't look at Keith Ellison, and go "Well here's a guy we can rely on for 16 games". Great depth/situational prospect player. Now you're talking about who the hell is the depth for Ellison? See what I mean? It just makes us weaker.
-
I would hope it's for another dt. I dunno how anyone in the bills coaching staff would feel comfortable with the dt's we have. Even if McCargo isn't as good as the bills wanted him to be. Why limit yourself to a 3 man rotation of Stroud/Williams/Johnson?
-
I'm no big fan of Crowell, but this sucks. It would've been nice to have a legit lb unit for a change. Ellison's added mass this offseason better pay off.
-
Oh I agree. I was just figuring we'll be drafting to high to get Maualuga
-
Yeah I mean if he's healthy why not? He's played for Jauron before. It's just about being healthy enough I guess.
