oh granted he should play more games. It's more the transition of systems I question then his talent. Although his level of play in carolina declined the past few years. It makes me wonder, if he can make the transition to a 3-4 nt. Especially with talent around him that's not all that good.

Voted he's at #1 -
Hey He's just making up for the lack of fun favre is having out there I'm really sick of hearing about Favre and his fun. Like ESPN indicating before the game the chargers and their fans wanted to lose because of the joyous amounts of respect they have for Favre and his fun. I mean STFU already. On the bright side at least Favre is spreading the fun around to the chargers defense.

SD is much better then their 0-2 record would otherwise state. Philip Rivers is the real deal, and has taken over as the unquestionable leader. I love watching him play.

It was horrible in the preseason, and other then people outside of jets fans, and those that like name guys/listen to espn. No one really thought it would be all that good. I'm not sold on jenkins as a 3-4 nt. Their lb's are all nothing more then average. Their secondary blows. It's just not a good team. It's the same 4-12 team who added some names, who really aren't all that good to begin with.

Jay Cutler is a legit coming of age quarterback, on a near Elite level. Brandon Marshall may just be the best wr in the league today, or at least top 5. They have a fantastic passing game. Giving them decent production out of their run game. Their defense is still a question mark. They're getting their hype because of Cutler/Marshall/Royal, and how they make it look so easy. It's a long season yet we'll see. The Broncos deserve their hub though. The Bills have been getting their respect in this regard as well. While not as flashy, more and more people are taking notice, of Edwards Lynch and company.

I just got tickets for Bills/Jets 12/14!
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm trying to get tickets. Especially cause 12/14 is my bday. Jets/Bills games from my experience can get rowdy, but at the same time there's usually a strong showing of Bills fans. I'm hoping it gets flexed to Sunday Night. I've never personally had any problems there, but have had instances of non stop smack talk for the majority of the game. Nothing over the top. Like everywhere there are some !@#$s. I always sport the bills colors at the games. -
Why does everyone think...

They're the Melvin Fowler of our defense. I'd throw it out there that the spot can be upgraded for a guy who doesn't have to rotate in and out as much. An athletic pass rusher, can go a long way for the 4 de set Fewell wants to use. Making it that much more productive. -

I believe we would've as well. I also think there was a strong chance had olb Keith Rivers been there he could've been the pick. I think it was Mort during the draft who said something to effect of Jauron loving what Keith Rivers can do, and had he been around he would've been the pick. With that said the bills clearly felt that an athletic pass rusher was a must grabbing Ellis in the 3rd rd. I'm sure the front office/coaching staff will view it objectively, and realize the collective age, and presence each of the dends bring to the field. Should Kelsay have another underwhelming year he could get the hook. Kelsay may be a vocal leader, but at the end of the day, it's production over noise. You have to look at it from the sense of. Do we start planning for the future of the position now, or down the line. Many would agree Schobel is not gonna get better as he continues to climb into his 30's, or that Kelsay/Denney are putting fear into opposing quarterbacks. I take issue with the the stance of Dwag "We don't need to upgrade 5th de" On paper it may seem like a 5th de. You get a premiere talent at end in this draft, and it's not upgrading 5th de, it's upgrading one of the most important aspects of football. A guy who down the line can be an impactful pass rusher, and make the transition from Schobel that much smoother. Just look at what the Bills want to do defensively. Attacking by flying to the ball. Speed Kills, and what better position to get speed from. Then a position that can impact the entire pass defense other then end. Leading to turnovers, hurried throws, and better production on 3rd down defense. We also need interior dt help. Stroud is great, but like Schobel you don't sacrifice the group, for the sum of the parts. You look to improve with competition. Yes we need a center. Yes we need a olb. You hardly ever should take either of those positions over a defensive end. The Bills could afford to grab a pass catching te as well. They could've afforded to do that for the last 15 years. They seem to love what Royal brings to the team, and may be high on Schouman, and Fine. While there's some quality at the position in the draft, a te does not have the impact on the game the way a dend does. Yeah we can get by with Schobel/Kelsay/Denney. We won't see this defense take that next step until a pass rusher is present. -

It's a shame that garbage like Mike Teel makes NFL prospects like Underwood and Kenny Britt look like trash. That and the Herm Schiano act. but yeah that Tate kid is pretty good -

Here's a question something I was discussing with some friends of mine. Is the spread option offense in college a detriment to determining NFL quality prospects? Personally I think it is. I believe it makes it harder to accurately scout skill position players like wr/qb/oline and even rb. QB- Reads are terribly simplified. Will constantly see nickle and dime defenses, will hardly if ever have a wr that is double covered. Will rarely see blitzes or exotic fronts. RB- Due to the spread will hardly ever be in a spot, where he's seeing 8-9 man fronts. Blitz pickup not much of an issue. Will generally have an innordinate amount of 10-20 yard runs, because of the nickle/dime defenses the spread option creates wr- Will hardly ever see double coverage. Zone is pretty much out of the question. It's beat your one man, and you're in good position. Take someone like Percy Harvin for instance. How do you judge Harvin as an nfl prospect? These spread option teams run the same 4-5 plays over and over. Yeah if you're a fan of a college team. I get winning is what matters blah blah blah. There's no way this stuff ever works in the pros. You can't use Harvin lined up behind center, taking direct snaps, running off tackle. Sure he's fast, but it's a gimmick offense that lacks quality. I think in the coming years you will see 3-5 star recruits shy away from teams that run this offense, if they have any kind of nfl aspirations. -

Hopefully it continues, and people can watch the NFL The way it's suppouse to be. It's possible the ruling of mics in a defensive players helmet could have something to do with disrupting offenses. May this trend continue all season -

Im almost tempted to pick The vikings as the upset of the week over the colts, but if Jackson has to throw the ball at all they'll lose. I really dont get why Childress is so adamant about Jackson being the guy there. He's costing a veteran team a serious shot. -
Back To Life....Back To Reality

Sorry for doing this, but they are what We thought they were. We'll get more sacks, and be far more versatile on defense this year, because of the presence of Stroud, Mitchell, healthy Poz, improved secondary. However outside of schobel, the ends themselves aren't gonna beat down doors anytime soon. It's a weakness, that can be covered up for the year, but will need to be addressed in next years draft. Mitchell has always been a bit of a stiff in coverage, so it's expected. The guy offers good size decent speed, and plays the run and blitzes well. I don't ever remember Poz being good in coverage, but I think Ellison will be a bright spot there. I still dont trust the guy over the long haul against the run, but we'll see. -

Must be refering to me. So I'll explain 1. Aaron Schobel- He's no spring chicken anymore. While he can still be productive, will not get better then he currently is. He's pretty much hit his peak. I have no qualms with Schobel. He's a top tier dend, but he's the only main threat we have as a pass rusher. 2. Chris Kelsay/Ryan Denney- I like Denney. He's a good depth player. He can come in on rotation, and holds up well against the run. Lacks a first step and closing speed. Plays with good leverage, and is consistent. Kelsay on the other hand is far from consistent. Isn't as good against the run, and does not have a good 1st step. People can throw out this "He'll prove you wrong stuff". Im not buying it. I've been saying for several years, even since we drafted him the guy is not a starting quality dend. We can surely get better production. 3. You're throwing out these numbers 5 sacks. That's great. How many times did we blitz? Take the blitzing aspect away. Do you trust the front 4 simply to create pressure by themselves. Is Chris Kelsay causing hurried throws? I'm not even talking about sacks. I'm talking about pressure. Making the qb uncomfortable in the pocket. Kelsay lacks technique, a first step and a closing burst. A High Motor is great and all. Always good to give 100%, but the guy is no threat from the lde spot. 4. There's a good number of high quality pass rushers coming out this year. I've mentioned some of them in previous posts. The draft as you know is about the future. How best to serve the team moving foward. When you have the chance to draft a potential future starter, at one of the most important positions in the game outside of Quarterback you should jump on it. I'm going to stick by my stance that this team needs a pass rusher. The dline is hardly what I call elite. We could also afford to draft a dt. Lose Stroud and we're right back to where we were the past few seasons defensively. Yes we can use a olb. However I think that's a position thats the defensive equivalent to runningback. Where you can get quality production out of later round picks. You're less likely to see that at defensive end. Yes I believe dline play is the most important aspect again outside of quarterback.
