Who will you take with your 1st pick?
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Oneonta Buffalo Fan's topic in Fantasy Football
With John Welbourne retiring and willie roaf being older I'm staying away from larry johnson, Not that he wont be good, but I think the chiefs offense in general losing al saunders, welbourne, replacing vermeil with herm, and having horrible wr's I dont think larry johnson will be all that great. I think all together I'd try to avoid 1 if posisble lol but if forced to pick there Id say Tiki -

Best RB in the AFC East...
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Buffan00's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
true having the best rb in your division doesn't mean a spot in the playoffs howver having a good rushing offense definitly increases your chances Atlanta 16 531 33.2 2546 - no playoffs Denver 16 542 33.9 2539 - playoffs Seattle 16 519 32.4 2457 - superbowl runner up Kansas City 16 520 32.5 2382 - no playoffs Pittsburgh 16 549 34.3 2223 - superbowl champs New York (N) 16 469 29.3 2209- playoffs Washington 16 525 32.8 2183 - playoffs Chicago 16 488 30.5 2099 - playoffs San Diego 16 465 29.1 2072 - no playoffs Jacksonville 16 502 31.4 1959 - playoffs 7 out of the top 10 rushing offense made the playoffs compare this to the top 10 passing offenses Arizona 16 670 41.9 419 62.5 4437- no playoffs New England 16 564 35.2 352 62.4 4120 - playoffs Indianapolis 16 515 32.2 347 67.4 4096 - playoffs St. Louis 16 599 37.4 392 65.4 4036 - no playoffs Cincinnati 16 538 33.6 362 67.3 3820 - playoffs Kansas City 16 507 31.7 317 62.5 3810 - no playoffs Green Bay 16 626 39.1 383 61.2 3766 - no playoffs Philadelphia 16 620 38.8 337 54.4 3677 - no playoffs Tennessee 16 594 37.1 358 60.3 3597 - no playoffs Oakland 16 591 36.9 316 53.5 3582 - no playoffs only 3 out of the top 10 passing offenses made the playoffs. While it's good to have a productive passing offenses a good running attack will more likely position your team for a playoff run. -
Best RB in the AFC East...
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Buffan00's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would. Ronnie Brown has never been a featue rb. He didnt hit 1000 yards last year and had 5 tds 4 rushing 1 receiving and 5 runs of 20+ yards. I'll compare it to willis's first year since that would be the fair thing to do and mcgahee has ronnie brown smoked. I like Brown but I wouldn't take him over McGahee, or Dillon, and I still would have to think about it when it comes to Curtis Martin. -
I wouldn't specifically point the finger at peters as cause as why WM fell off. I think a lot of it was the inability of our guards to pull on sweeps and traps, and I think thats a big reason why as the course of the season went on we saw less of Mcgahee bouncing runs outside like he did in 2004 and more off guard stuff where bennie and villarrial could just try to plow defenders, this didn't seem to work either as villarrial had nagging injuries and anderson was so unathletic that if a dt was quicker then him the hole would be plugged quickly. Another reason for the dropoff is teams just didnt fear our passing game and the offense would consistently see 8-9 man fronts to stop mcgahee with no fear of the qb, making it all the more difficult to run and further exposing the Inadequacy of our quaterback.

The playmaker's picks for SB
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
McNabb imo makes far too many mistakes, even when healthy. He's a game killer especially late in games. He also has a penchant for throwing the ball too low at his receivers legs, With what rb will they have a greather emphasis on running? Brian Westbrook?!? Westbrook is a good/very good 2nd type option, but he can not be the sole focus of a running attack. A Slim chance Correll Buckhalter ever stays healthy, and With their current stack of receivers and a not so good defense eagles will be hard pressed to be over .500 The giants imo are the best team in this division with the best rb in the nfl and quaterback with the highest upside. While Im not eli's biggest fan I think he will be better then the rest of the nfc east qb's. Tiki is the most underappreciated rb in the nfl and all he does is make plays. Great runner, tremendous receiver. A decent defense and offense playing up to snuff will carry this team far. Division winners The Redskins you saw in the playoffs will most likely be the redskins you'll see this year with Jason Campbell getting playing time some point in the middle of the season. They'll have a good defense though. Under .500 TO will make a tremendous difference and their defense should be ok although they suffer from lack of speed in the secondary. As good as roy williams is he's a liability against the pass and I dont know wtf their other safety is. Julius Jones also gets an awful lot of hype for a rb who's yet to stay healthy and/or reach 1000 yards rushing. Hmm kind of like his brother but less talented. Bledsoe will keep them respectable enough, but should TO go down they're relying on pretty much terry glenn as their lone receiver outside of te witten . It's do or die with owens, cause I think this offense really lacks pop. Bledsoe's good enough but he wont be able to carry them. If they can avoid injuries I think they have a chance but the nfc east belongs to the giants -
if your qb can't throw it more then 25 yards you pretty much get chad pennington but older. The way to stop a qb like that is to blitz them consistently. However I dont think the wr potential is being wasted. While our wr's posesses a hell of a lot of speed. Not all of them are strictly down the field burners. Their speed can be utilized for crossing patterns slants and screens to benefit their run after the catch ability. Being able to throw deep is great, as you really can't have successive 10-14 play drives all the time, but throwing short and intermediate range passes is also a necessity , as thats where most of your passing routes over the course of a season are ran. Losman has yet to show he can throw short with any kind of accuracy, and that will be a problem in itself if he doesn't improve in that area. Fairchilds offfense relies on a lot of short passes mixed in with deep passes and relies mostly on the run after catch ability of wr's and rb's, but if your qb can't hit the broad side of a barn yard door you're in trouble. I'll be pulling for losman or nall to win the competition strictly cause they're younger but just cause you can throw deep doesn't a good quaterback make.

The Bengals under marvin lewis seem to have a thing for troubled players, but chris henry is one dumb man

I dont know where the ezekial stuff is coming from. He's either the next in the line of "great white hopes" ala coy wire/josh stamer/chris kelsay or they like him cause he punched a punter in college. I've never seen him on the field so I dont know if he can or can't play. If he can good for us. Odds are though more likely courtney watson will be the player who takes fletcher spot. However with that said I hope fletcher has a great season and if the bills feel he can give them a few more by all means get an extension done. Or Hope Watson can develop enough to take his spot. -

Not that Im suprised but that was rather uninformative. JP/Holcomb qb competition new coach, mcgahee's there doesn't know who will be qb, spikes got injured, rod woodson saying we should've kept bledsoe, some bledsoe footage and woodson saying holcomb will get the nod -
Don't worry about it..... just drink some coffee http://www.startribune.com/789/story/488366.html for anyone who doesn't feel like clicking the link Coffee reduces risk of cirrhosis from too much alcohol Associated Press Last update: June 12, 2006 – 4:20 PM CHICAGO — Coffee may counteract alcohol's poisonous effects on the liver and help prevent cirrhosis, researchers say. In a study of more than 125,000 people, one cup of coffee per day cut the risk of alcoholic cirrhosis by 20 percent. Four cups per day reduced the risk by 80 percent. The coffee effect held true for women and men of various ethnic backgrounds. It is unclear whether it is the caffeine or some other ingredient in coffee that provides the protection, said study co-author Dr. Arthur Klatsky of the Kaiser Permanente Division of Research in Oakland, Calif. Of course, there is a better way to avoid alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver, Klatsky said. "The way to avoid getting ill is not to drink a lot of coffee, but to cut down on the drinking" of alcohol, he said. The participants ranged from teetotalers, who made up 12 percent of the total, to heavy drinkers, who made up 8 percent. The researchers calculated the risk reductions rate for the whole group, not just the drinkers. Not all heavy drinkers develop cirrhosis, an irreversible scarring of the liver that hurts the organ's ability to filter toxins from the blood. Klatsky said the new findings may help explain why some people's livers survive heavy alcohol use. Hepatitis C and some inherited diseases can also cause cirrhosis. But the study found coffee did not protect the liver against those other causes of scarring. The same study found coffee drinkers had healthier results on blood tests used to measure liver function, whether or not they were heavy alcohol users. Coffee's effect on reducing liver enzymes in the blood was more apparent among the heavy drinkers in the study. Cirrhosis from all causes kills more than 27,000 Americans a year and sends nearly 400,000 to the hospital. The findings, published in Monday's Archives of Internal Medicine, build on reports that coffee also may reduce the risk of liver cancer. The data came from members of a Northern California health plan. Their coffee consumption was noted only at the beginning of the study, which the researchers admitted was a limitation. They were followed for an average of 14 years. The researchers found no reduced risk of cirrhosis for tea drinkers. Tea has less caffeine than coffee and there were fewer heavy tea drinkers in the study, so if caffeine is the protective ingredient, an effect may not have shown up for tea in the study, Klatsky said. So go ahead keep on drinking just make sure to take coffee breaks inbetween.

Im not trying to overly defend Vincent as far too often he is a liability against the run, Not a wrap up tackler, and honestly I know he's a high character "off the field" type guy but I seriousily question his willingness to give just a little bit more on the field. It seems he's the type who will sit out with the most minor of injuries, and he'll preach this kind of nonsense to his fellow teammates. Granted he's not going to become a better player, but he's not someone you can count on to give his all. He'll play to avoid injury. However theres a lot of good Troy Vincent can do as well. Granted he's slowing down at his age, but he has keen football awareness. He's pretty much seen it all on the field, and I remember when we drafted evans he stayed after practice with him to help evans learn to break off routes to get open quicker, and was also a big help in the development of terrence mcgee as well. All in all I wouldn't cut him as I believe he can help pass down his lessons over the years to KO and Whitner, and then we can cut rope with him after this season. I also wouldnt be suprised after vincent retires if he makes a damn good defensive backs coach for some team. -
V-coach: McGahee AT mini-camp this week

Are his baby mommas takin care of his kids?!?! Seriousily though, people make far big of a deal about these camps. Yeah it helps going through the motions of drills, but Im sure he still gets a playbook and keeps himself in shape in Miami. Much more concerned about a passing game keeping safeties back from stacking the box this year unlike last season. Camp is a bigger deal for linemen and qb's then rb's -

The fact that London Fletcher is over 30 and we were/are really thin at lb depth probably had more to do with trading for Watson... -

I remember watching something on espn about a year or so ago, about Jamie Henderson the former jets db who got seriousily injured in a motorcycle accident, and nearly lost his life. I believe he was in a coma for awhile. They had him Roethlisberger and Drew Bledsoe on, and Henderson was talking about how he could send one message out to other people who ride bikes it's that you should wear a helmet and basically Big Ben came off like a big prick saying something along the lines of "You're not my dad, you can't tell me how to live my life". I really hope from a human perspective he's ok physically, but Karma is a B word... -
To me getting NFL Sunday Ticket just for the sole purpose of watching your team play is a dumb reason to get it. It just seems like a waste. I love football so I'll watch other teams play as well as The Bills even if they suck. To each their own though. Like JohnnyB said there's always sports bars.

I wasn't trying to have a nonchalant attitude about our st's play, so I apologize that it came off that way. I just dont think Aiken hasn't proven enough as a wr to keep him around strictly as a st's player. If he proved more as a wideout I'd have no problem with him staying, and theres probably more deserving candidates, but turnover happens year in and year out, and good st's players can be found elsewhere and the scouting staff have done a relativly good job finding the right players, So I'm confident they can find someone to fill the hole aiken would leave. -

THANK YOU C. Biscuit I pointed this out in another thread, but eh. Like someone told me though this is more a popularity contest then a judgment of who was the better player, and quaterbacks tend to win popularity contests. Thurman imo would win hands down over Jim Kelly. Kelly was pretty bad when it came to the postseason
