  1. Sam Aiken. He's shown nothing as a wr, and while a great st's player I just dont think he's worth keeping around. Good st's players are a dime a dozen.
  2. Daniel graham doesnt suck. Sure he's not tony gonzalez or Antonio Gates, or Jeremey Shockey, but he's a good/very good blocking te, with average hands. If drafting Ben Watson was an indictment on Graham then I guess they want to get rid of Ben Watson as well as they drafted 2 more te's this year.....
  3. I agree that it was time for moulds to move on and that keeping him around wasn't in the best long term interest of this football team, but comparing him to Bobby Shaw?!?!
  4. As a pass blocker Peters is far better then Mike Williams, as a run blocker when Mike Williams was on he was on. Its no mere coincidence that McGahee went from averaging 4.8ypc during the games Mike Williams started to sub 4 when Peters was inserted into the lineup. Peters has a long way to go in that department, but I have good hope he'll improve. I agree, and I really hope Preston can push Villarrial for playing time and or right out of the lineup. I'd like to see a youth movement built on the oline where we can start to have continuity on the line for years to come. At this point Villarial is a stop gap. Also Agree. Fowler is a lot like teague athletically but unlike teague he's a natural center. I doubt we'll see Fowler thrown into the pocket like we did when teague lined up at center. I'm not exactaly sure on this one. Reyes is quicker and better in space, but Anderson did seem to come on during the end of the season. It was his first year playing lg, and when he gets his hands on a defender he's a great drive blocker. I'd need to see reyes beat out anderson first. Right now I have to give this to benny. Another guy playing out of position. I would've truly loved to have seen a lt brought in via the draft so gandy could've been moved to guard. I can live with him at tackle for another year but yeah he'll never be confused with the likes of a walter jones or willie roaf. all in all I think they're headed in a good direction in fixing the oline, at least on the interior which was our biggest problem last season, but its far from a done deal. I'm not asking for the greatest oline ever, but a consistent unit who dont trip over their own feet, or commit stupid penalties in the redzone will be a nice start. QB Im by no means a fan of JP Losman. he reminds me far to much of Jake Plummer, and looking at what we gave up for him I just expect him to prove me wrong and be much better then Plummer, but thats the kind of ceiling I belive he has. I'm more then willing to give him a shot, but giving up numerous picks for a guy who can only occasionaly make plays, and not win you games, but has to be placed in a certain system which will minimize mistakes is just not something that excites me considering donahoe invested so much into him. I like kelly holcomb. I think he's undervalued by a lot of people on this board, but he's aging and definitly not a long term solution, You have to let the veteran play his way out of the job. Which I think will be the case. He's by no means flashy, but he's consistent. I dont like to hear this well he only throws 5 yard passes bs. He had a higher yards per attempt avg then losman, better completion pct. and we avged more points under holcomb then with Losman. Unless Losman is significantly better then Holcomb. I think Holcomb will get the job, until he plays his way out of it. I'm not familiar with craig nall, so I'll reseve comment for a later time. None of these qb's leave me with a warm and fuzzy feeling but Holcomb as of right now is the best of this bunch.
  5. I definitly agree it was earned. I was just trying to say being in games is nice but it doesnt really matter. We were a bad team last season, good teams win close ones bad teams lose em
  6. Eh I hear what you're saying and I agree but its really not all that different then last season as we had 5 games decided by 10 pts or less 17 | at New York Jets | L | 26-30- 4pts 13 | at Miami Dolphins | L | 23-24 - 1 pt 12 | Carolina Panthers | L | 9-13 -4pts 8 | at New England Patriots | L | 16-21- 5 pts 3 | Atlanta Falcons | L | 16-24 -8pts Im a big believer is what parcells once said. The difference between a 10-6 and 6-10 team is 4 plays. I believe we are headed down the right track, but I wont drink the kool aid until its proven on the field. Good teams make the plays not to be competative but to win football games.
  7. TT nfl record 4 straight seasons leading the nfl in yards from scrimmage. tied 2nd with 21 career playoff tds. 6 playoff games with 100+ yards rushing. He was too good in the playoffs and great from 89-93. Way to good for me to vote for him. Marv gets my vote. Next Jim "My Playoff stats suck" Kelly gets my vote.
  8. Clinton Portis- http://cache.deadspin.com/sports/crazycrazyportis.jpg Just curious have you ever seen Edge give interviews? He's basicaly as aloof as Willis McGahee except older and with gold teeth. I've never heard reggie wayne give interviews so I cant comment on them. I'm pretty positive Edge and Portis are not the greatest examples of "non typical" whatever that means U guys. I would've said Jon Vilma, and Andre Johnson but whatever. True Alexander is great. He also has a great passing game. I take nothing away from him though. He's not my favorite rb but he's good. He also plays in the nfc west. It must be hard raking up yardage against the likes of the rams. niners and cardnials I like Clinton Portis but once he left the confines of denver who had a good passing game and arguably one of the best system for runningbacks, his ypc fell from mid 5.5 his first 2 seasons to 3.8 and 4.3 ypc his last two seasons. He also has not suprisingly less runs for 20+ yards his last 2 years then our very own whiping boy of the moment Willis McGahee. Portis has 11 runs of 20+ yards the last 2 years McGahee has 14. When Portis was in denver, where he had a good passing game so teams didn't stack the box he had 24 runs of 20+ yards in his 2 years there. He has only 11 in Washington 5 in 04 and 6 in 05. He only increased his td total when Mark Brunell experienced a passing revival. Everyone saw how portis fared in the playoffs when Brunell could no longer pass. It was really ugly. He's a good young rb, but hes not as effective now as when he played in denver. I dont watch bengal games so I dont have much to say about rudi johnson, other then Hes not overly fast his ypc isn't that great. He's also not much of a receiving back So I'm gonna guess he puts up good #'s at least yards wise cause he plays on a team that can pass the ball...... <wink wink nudge nudge>
  9. Oh boy nothing personal but you can really tell we havent had good tes blocking or receiving on this team in a long time when you start to think someone like Tim Useless is a good blocker. I dont know much about Courtney Watson but on the surface it seems like a good move to add depth to one of the spots on defense where we need it.
  10. Personaly what he has to do is simply win more then he loses. I could care less about quaterback stats, qb ratings, td's whatever. As long as the bills win more then they lose with him at qb then I'll accept him as a quality player. I'm not impressed by #'s wins is the only thing I care about.
  11. And about this thread, This was pretty much the exact reason why I didn't have a problem with the draft at all. Not just ne but over the last few years it seemed we've been hurt in games by teams that can move the ball through the air in key points of the game. Like the meltdown in the final seconds of the 04 opener against jacksonvile, against the raiders, jets and several other teams. The added emphasis of speed on defense and several db's with ballhawking abilities should help us out in this area. I would've gone defensive heavy anyway as I've been complaining we had bad depth all around considering our aging vets. I might've gone a little more heavy on the dline, but the defense was the major aspect I wanted to see upgraded.
  12. It's conceivable should Culpepper be healthy Miami could take that next step foward, however culpepepper could just as easily play like he did at the beginning of last year before he got injured, but for the record miami in their 6 game season ending win streak beat the likes of. The 4-12 raider. the 5-11 bills. 9-7 chargers, the 4-12 jets, the 4-12 titans, 10-6 patriots (who were playing with backups) and only won by 2 pts. We're talking about a team who we could've swept if not for a 4th quater meltdown by our coaches. Miami has to do more then beat the pats backups in a meaningless game for ne, and a streaky chargers team before I admit to them being the "team to beat". The AFC east as it stands still belongs to NE.
  13. Chris Kelsay and Ryan Denney combine to form....VOL.... Chris Denney
  14. No one's sticking up for ricky williams. All that's being said is there are bigger pieces of sh-- who have done far worse things then try to find spiritual enlightenment, and smoke some pot. Unless you think thats worse then beating up your wife. Drawing guns on people or murder, to each their own I guess.
  15. Sadly it seems in the world of pro sports drug use is more frowned upon than acts of criminal violence such as spousal abuse, or murder.
  16. hope this helps http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tampa_2 Pass Defense The Tampa 2 is a variation of the Cover 2 formation in which all pass responsibilities are zone coverage (instead of Man-to-man). Zone coverage is where players are assigned an area on the field which they are to cover: *The safeties and middle linebacker cover the deep half: areas of the field usually extending from about 15 yards beyond the line of scrimmage to the endzone, divided into thirds by the middle of the field). The middle linebacker drops into deep coverage, making what first looks like a Cover 2 into a Cover 3. *The cornerbacks cover the flats: the area of the field extending about 15 yards from the line of scrimmage, and from the last man on the offensive line to the sideline. *Outside linebackers cover the box: the two outside linebackers split the middle of the field consisting of the area within 15 yards of the line of scrimmage and in between the two flats into halves. Run defense *To defend running plays, the Tampa 2 is a single gap defense where each player is responsible to defend his own gap. The assigned gap changes with game conditions and personnel. *Typically this style of defense utilizes smaller but faster linemen and linebackers with above average speed. Also the defensive backs must be above average hitters as well. Footballoutsiders also has a great site to help explain the system. I hope this helps explain it for ya. http://www.footballoutsiders.com/ramblings.php?p=167&cat=1
  17. 12 sacks allowed in the last 9 games over a 16 game season only equating to 21 sacks allowed which would be 22 less sacks then they gave up last season. Hell yes I'd be happy if they matched that kind of play. It would also mean less excuses for JP Losman either he'll get better or he wont. It could also mean we generally have a higher focus on offense of a run themed offense with low risks passes taken chances when the time calls for it, and not out of a forced situation, as was the case last season.
  18. Nothing about Bledsoe or Losman in paticular, just that I dont think we need any qb to be good. More so we need to develop a team around a qb so the team can be good. I dont really care who your qb is. Quaterbacks dont win games teams do. With that said The trade for losman was probably the worst move we could've made at the time, Giving away picks to acquire a real project at quaterback when we could've maybe drafted some linemen and a later rd qb possibly a charlie frye last year or Matt Schaub in 04, instead of banking on one player to turn things around from a football standpoint would've made a hell of a lot more sense. About Bledsoe the cowboys are a relativly young team at least defensivly, their wr core is aging but if their line stays healthy this year the cowboys have probably the best shot to unseat the giants in the nfc east. Bledsoe isn't perfect but once again Quaterbacks alone don't decide your outcome the team does.
  19. It might just be me but I see Willis as a very shy personality on camera. He seems uncomfortable in that kind of setting. Doesnt generally have a lot to say. So what might come off as "stupid" seems to me more of a reserved shyness on camera.
  20. No way The posters on this board have never done anything illegal or immoral. No drinking, no playing loud music no pre-marital sex, just high upstanding character posters here. Keep that type of nonsense moving.
  21. heh its wrong but that was kind of funny. Still R.I.P. Craig Heyward.
  22. I've only vaguely kept up with Calibornes career. by his 3rd season he looked like he was living up to his potential, Then after arguably his best season in 02 the lions let him go and it's been downhill since. If he came on the cheap I wouldn't mind taking a look. I think he's a little too heavy and slow for the cover 2 scheme, but having someone like claiborne who has that all important starting experience would probably be worth the investment, if he could be had for cheap.
  23. Re-signing Moulds was definitly one of Tommy D's better moves but I voted for drafting Nate Clements. 29 forced turnovers in the last 5 seasons 20 picks and 11 forced fumbles 9 recovered by the bills 2 by the oppositiion. Thats more forced turnovers then Champ Bailey, Chris Mcallister, Patrick Surtain, Ty Law, and probably just about every corner in the league. 6 td's 4 by pick 2 on punt returns. Arguably Donahoe's best draft pick.
  24. For me it's most definitinly failing to retain the services of Dick Lebeau. I dont feel as if Marvin Lewis was some can't miss head coaching choice. He's failed to improve the bengals defense and has been blessed considerably with several high draft picks inlcuding having carson palmer fall right into his lap. While I like John Fox and the mentality he brings to the panthers I feel as though had we kept Lebeau over Jerry Gray our defense would have still been playing at an extremely high level, and if necceasary had meathead still failed Lebeau could've been the fallback option, and we would've maybe seen an offense predicated on running the football and strong defensive play. Lebeau would've been able to do the small things jerry gray couldn't like know when not to blitz, better scheming against better competition and overall better preperation.
