By all fan accounts here, Cassel has been kind of a dud while both EJ and Tyrod have played better than him. I go by fan accounts here because they seem to be more thoughtful and more intelligent than the likes of Sal and that Brent guy. That all tells me that the Bills have clearly taken the approach to continue to let the battle play out (seems as if both EJ and Tyrod have taken to this approach) all the way to preseason and then start making moves. I have no idea why anyone would think the Cassel I've been reading about is going to be anywhere near the starting position seeing how he is getting to his mid-thirties and he's not playing better than the two young guys at this point.
-
They traded for him because they needed a fail-safe QB. How it seems to be playing out is that the fail-safe QB is no longer needed since the two young developing QBs are surpassing Cassel's current talent level. That's how I see it going. Would you pay Matt Cassel 5 million to be a third string QB? I don't know of any NFL team that would do something like that. Cassel isn't good. He was once a decent starting QB but that was for a very short time and that time was five years ago. I think that Cassel is a content man who has been coasting for a long time now and that coasting is finally catching up to him.

The GOP is kind of already failure because they really have no core beliefs anymore. They got elected into congress in 2014 and basically did nothing. I think that Trump might be the GOPs last hope before it's truly over for them because he has that boldness and genuine love of America not seen since Reagan. Is he a jerk at times? Yes, but I think people don't mind it as long as they know that's who he is. He isn't faking being nice to get votes like almost all politicians do no matter who the party is. Remember all the fake Obama smiles? Yuck! Notice how he doesn't smile much because he doesn't have to anymore? Trump doesn't like to smile, people like that he isn't trying to fake it. They also know that he loves America. Not fake, loves America...that's two big pluses. Not sure if Trump can go the long haul, don't know the specifics yet, but I do like that he's shook up the MSM/DC crowd and they don't seem to have any magic bullets to finish him off.

I guess that's the other school of thought. I think you're wrong because it's clear to me that Cassel is totally not a fit with Roman's offense which is based on misdirection and having the QB as an option to run. Just look at the players they have. Harvin is going to get smashed on reverses with Cassel at QB because the defense knows 100% he isn't going to keep the ball. I honestly think the Bills are just propping up Cassel as the starter to keep the wolves at bay one more week.

Wow, are those two guys stupid. They are so clueless that they don't even know that Cassel is just the "PR" placeholder for EJ or Taylor with EJ being the top guy in waiting with the best performance in the scrimmage. I say PR because I think that the Bills want Cassel to start in the first preseason game so as not to offend the NFL media at large to show that Cassel had all the time in the world to win the job and he lost it both on merits and the fact that he does not fit in Roman's misdirection offense that's being put in place. The Bills don't want to put EJ or Taylor in a position where they have to defend themselves to idiots like these two guys. It's so weird how these local guys have put Cassel on a pedestal as if he has done anything in this league other than be a decent backup. They see that two years of production he had from a half decade ago and hold that up as evidence he's clearly the best guy the Bills have. Geez guys, how stupid can you be? It doesn't work on video just like it doesn't work in print. Please give up your Matt Cassel dream already. There's a good chance he's going to get cut because he not only sucks, he can't run Roman's modern game offense where the QB is a running option. I think if Cassel has another poor game next week he's cut the next day.

Those women are right. Megyn Kelly gave no context whatsoever to Trumps comments like the fact that they were in retaliation to Rosie's tell him to go "sit and spin" (gee...hmm...I wonder what that meant?). The way Kelly read her question it was as if Trump just out of the blue decided one day to call Rosie a fat pig. It really does seem like Fox News tried to wipe out Trump for either Jeb or Rubio.
-
I don't get your angst here. Rosie once told Trump to "sit and spin" and he fought back. Kelly is clearly working for Jeb and tried to do a hit job on Trump and it backfired on her and Fox News. People want a fighter and a person who deeply loves America more than they want a puppet or someone who rolls over and plays nice when insulted. If you're an equal as a women (duh) and are going to throw punches with the big "boys" then you should expect to get punched back (not literally of course) and not need to play the "but how could he do that? I'm a woman" victim card. I would think that there are a lot of women out there who are insulted by Kelly's question and ABC News' article using this false "woman as victim" pretense as a tool to further Hillary's and Jeb's chances. So now Trump has been revealed as both a racist and a women hater?...LOL If he's such a hateful horrible human being then why did Fox have him on the stage? Why did PC-everything NBC employ him for over a decade even after the Rosie fight?
-
All he would have to do is run a funny ad of Brande in a bikini telling Hillary don't be a hater. Or one with Brande saying "Hey Hillary, you always want to talk about glass ceilings, lets talk about glass houses...oh...hi Bill!" The MSMs hair would again be on fire, America would love it and his poll numbers would skyrocket some more. You have to admit, you must love seeing the MSM PC police having the opposite effect on him. It's like watching a movie villain's machine gun getting jammed and throwing it to the ground in frustration.

I'm pleased about hearing reports of Taylor and Manuel both showing signs of shaking off the nerves of learning Roman's offense and starting to gain confidence and get into a groove. The stakes for tonights scrimmage and that first preseason game are absolutely huge for both Taylor and Manuel (I get the feeling Cassel's eventually going to be cut because he doesn't fit this offense). I really think one of them is going to shine and I can't wait for the 2015 starting QB to come into focus. I also think EJ is going to win the job. The Bills are building him up the right way by making him earn every inch of that starting job. It sounds like he's gaining confidence by seeing all the work starting to pay off in practice. If EJ doesn't win the job yet is showing much improvement then that settles the QB position even more having a young and hungry guy like that as your backup QB in case of an injury to Taylor or him not producing enough by midseason.

8-6: EJ Manuel from Bills' Camp on Local Radio
1billsfan replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"Manuel on the evaluation process: 'A lot of it is going to be based on the games'" ^This. If any of these QBs starts looking great in a couple of scrimmages/games they have the starting job. I think Bills fans more than any other in the NFL are really going to have by far the most anticipation in watching these preseason games. They are huge in what are offense is going to look like (Cassel vs Manuel/Taylor) and who is actually picked to start the season. Whoever is picked is not going to have a lock on the job though. This will make for a very week in week out unsettled feeling this year. I just hope that Manuel or Taylor can magically come through a solidify the position once and for all. Chances look slim for that though. I really don't want Cassel starting for this team. NFL greatness is about taking chances, not going with a journeyman backup who's marginally more consistent than the two younger QBs. -
Is it time for Plan Z at QB
1billsfan replied to NastyNateSoldiers's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't see the Bills looking to the 2016 draft to fill the QB position. The reason is because I think the "window" of opportunity for this bunch is about 3 years. I think the Bills will try to find a veteran QB through a trade or FA who's had success but is on the outs either because of age, being in a "bad" situation or their current team just wants to move on. The possible QB list I look at are (in no particular order) Brees, Bradford, Foles, P. Manning, RGIII, Kaepernick, Mettenberg, Glennon, Rivers, E. Manning or Cutler. A lot won't end up being available, but I think there will be a better FA/Trade situation out there for the Bills next year that wasn't there this year. There are a lot of bad big salary cap hit QB contracts out there for a decent QB not to shake loose in the 2016 offseason. -

It's upsetting to hear reports coming out of camp. Hopefully all three QBs start stepping up and turning it around in a hurry. I really feel like the Bills are going to be making a move in the near future if they don't. -

Cassel has looked just as bad as EJ if reports of training camp are to be believed. Yet you think Cassel somehow magically gets the Bills to a 10-6 record? And you call other people EJ "dreamers"? At least EJ can make a big play by running with the football. What's Cassel's big thing? Hey I'm a vet! Who cares. Regardless if EJ is still here or not, no way Cassel starts for the Bills if he continues to look horrible in training camp. -
Bills' Camp @ SJF: Week 1 Day 6 - Begins on Page 64

On that Redskins team, RGIII is kind of worthless because that team needs an Andrew Luck QB since they have such a deficit in talent on that roster. IMO RGIII perhaps could be worth a high pick to a team like the Bills since he is only going to be asked to make 2 to 3 big plays a game and not going to be asked to carry the team. Interesting to guess what might happen down the road if Manuel and Taylor can't turn it around. -

The Redskins owner still wants to see RGIII this season so that's a factor in why the Bills would have to pay a premium pick. The other factor is that the Bills could become very desperate and we all know that means a very high pick. The third factor is that RGIII on a team with the #1 defense and a top running game could actually be an effective and winning QB. RGIII on that Redskins team is kind of worthless to anyone who is not the owner. In the end, I hope that either EJ or Tyrod makes huge strides this next week and RGIII is someone that's not even needed to be discussed about trading for. -

http://www.inquisitr.com/2273669/washington-redskin-rumors-robert-griffin-iiis-future-appears-to-be-outside-of-washington/ "He suggested the Buffalo Bills, where Rex Ryan has shown he’s good at supporting quarterbacks, and offensive coordinator Greg Roman built the San Francisco 49ers’ offense around the similarly talented Colin Kaepernick." I think the RGIII trade would be either the Bills 1st or a conditional 2nd round pick in 2016. This is what desperation looks like. The Bills will get roasted, but what choice will they have if these three QBs continue to suck? -

If EJ in his third year can't beat out a journeyman backup who is sucking in practice then that is a HUGE "career changer" red flag for him. I've been a big supporter of EJ, but Teddy Bridgwater took about 15 seconds into his rookie year to make Cassel expendable. I'm almost certain that Whaley is going to make a deal for a name QB who's had NFL success if this three-headed bad QB play continues (the price will no doubt hurt their future drafts, but that's the point it might be reaching). -

If it keeps up then I expect to see either a big push for Kaepernick (doubtful, but who knows) or RGIII (much more likely IMO). The RGIII scenario is that the Bills would be just rolling the dice on a guy who was once a very productive player. The Redskins don't want him and the Bills could become desperate enough to do a deal. You know the Bills are starting to panic with each and every bad practice by the QBs. -

By all accounts, Smith has looked pretty decent in Jets camp. It's so disappointing to hear about EJ struggling. I really thought he was going to nail down the starting job early with a solid camp. Every day our QBs look like crap I'm more and more convinced the Bills are burning up the lines to trade for somebody else who will be their starter. -

Perhaps, but can we give it a couple of weeks or a preseason game or two before we make grand pronouncements on EJ's demise? I could see your point if Cassel and Taylor were looking good, but they clearly aren't either. So why not just let the competition continue. Isn't that a no brainer decision right now? I wonder if something big is going on behind the scenes. If no one steps up I could definitely see the Bills making a HUGE "swing for the fences" play for Kaepernick (with Niners looking like they want that 1st pick in 2016 draft and a big rebuild). Doug didn't rule out bringing in a new QB. What would the price be for Kaepernick? You just know that Whaley, Rex and Roman must be thinking about that kind of move the more our QBs aren't looking any good. -

First off, I'd find it very weird to reply to a comment that was over 2 months old. Secondly, you got me. I didn't realize how bad Cassel and/or Tyler was until they started to actually play in practice. Feel good now? -
Astro-Notes Day 2: Satuday 8-1-15

I just don’t get the point of trashing EJ right now. If EJ isn’t looking good in a week or two then they can have at it (even though I’m not writing him off after two weeks). But we’re talking about day one and two of training camp, trying to get timing with WRs down, a new offense, going against the #1 defense. Shouldn’t it be assumed that EJ and all the QBs will struggle early on? I mean, look at what our defense did against Peyton Manning and Aaron Rogers last year. Can they cut a little bit of slack in the early going? No, these idiots demand to see instant success…LOL I think that if Bills fans listened to other stations like Philly’s Fanatic (which I listen to a lot) or WFAN then they would see just how simpleton the thought processes are at WGR where they say one thing as if it is the greatest thought ever and then repeat it a thousand times. If I’m the Bills I tell them they need to step up their game because the Bills are going to be a great team and they don’t need to be dragged down by a bunch of idiots at WGR. -

Which is where you went wrong and I gave you the link to pro football reference. As slow developing as EJ Manuel has been, Blaine Gabbert couldn't carry his jock strap when you compare their stats. Your whole premise was a fallacy from the get go. -
I get the sense that this local media hate everything EJ Manuel thing is more of a mob mentality than it is an agenda. They’re afraid of stepping out of the Buffalo media groupthink fishbowl for fear of being ridiculed. To them, it’s better to go with the flow than to risk the embarrassment of having one once of faith by thinking that EJ could become a franchise QB and it not happening. What will be very entertaining is if EJ blows the competition away and they are only left with “Oh yeah!? Well let’s just see what he does in a real game!”. I doubt the Bills will just sit back and take it without recourse if it comes down to that. I’d expect some serious pushback on WGR decision makers by the Bills if that station continues to trash their starting QB who they see developing nicely. At that point they would essentially become the team’s PR enemy.
