  1. My point was that Bills fans aren't looking for a Matt Hasselbeck type of QB, they are looking for a QB that can throw TD passes. Things are going to get very ugly here if this is how this place is going to debate the QB topic. I find it hard to believe that you didn't know what I was talking about. If this is how you roll then I'm going to be civil about it and just not debate you any longer.
  2. So funny hearing the "Meh" expression used to describe the guy who threw a 51 yard TD pass to put the Bills in the lead with 1:55 left in the Carolina game and beat the Browns with a last minute TD pass and 2 point conversion for the win.
  3. I was referring to the scenario, I don't think any team is battling to trade for EJ right now. If EJ puts on a show against the Steelers then I could potentially see it happening. That would be three straight good preseason games in a row.
  4. I think it's safe to say that Bills fans want their starting QB to show they can throw TD passes with regularity. That is the most important job for an NFL starting QB. My listing of facts was to help serve as a counterbalance to the whole "EJ sucks" drone heads. EJ is the only QB to prove he can throw TDs with regularity in preseason games. Yes, it's of course true that the other two led scoring drives. While that's nice, that isn't what we are really looking for in our starting QB with all of these weapons, is it? A QB that can get the bills down there and have the RB punch it in every now and then? You must admit that if Cassel or Taylor fail to find the end zone against the Steelers that you will become annoyed they haven't done it yet in a Bills uniform. Am I right?
  5. This franchise hasn't had a franchise QB in 20 years. I think that potential decision has much greater ramifications attached to it since Tyrod Taylor has yet to start an NFL game. They don't know what they have yet.
  6. Getting offers is a good thing for Bills fans who still support EJ because it gives their opinions credibility since other teams see "starting QB" value in him.
  7. Trading EJ would take some big balls when know one yet knows yet what Taylor is going to become in real NFL games. I can't even imagine how bad things would become for Doug Whaley and this organization if EJ is thriving with his new team and Taylor looks horrible. I know that "EJ sucks" seems collectively stamped on the majority of Bills fans heads, but perception is not reality sometimes. I don't think a 3rd or a 4th round pick (if they could even get that) is worth that kind of gamble.
  8. And if EJ plays well against the Steelers, how exactly does a team with no established starting QB trade away a young QB who is playing so well other teams are battling to trade for him? That makes no sense whatsoever.
  9. Fact: EJ Manuel has 2 TDs and a 2 point conversion this preseason, Taylor and Cassel both have zip. Fact: EJ Manuel has looked better under Roman’s system. Fact: EJ Manuel has proven he can get better. This of course means nothing in terms of whether he is capable of being an NFL starting QB, but anyone who still mocks Manuel just because he didn’t speed up his development in time to win the starting job (if that ends up being the case) is being just plain goofy IMO. I know that “EJ sucks” is 100% the local media’s narrative (see WGR), but they are idiots. They just want to wrap a big bow on the EJ era and be done with it. However, that’s not how things sort out in situations like this. Some young NFL players develop slower than others (see Jerry Hughes), games happen, injuries happen, opportunities happen. If EJ fails to win the starting job because he lost a competition in which all three QBs played well, how exactly does that make EJ a figure to mock? How does this make him a joke? What specific traits does Manuel have? IMO he throws a great deep ball down the middle of the field. He did it in college and he knows how to do it in the NFL. Another trait? The guy seems to be clutch in 2 minute situations and in the 4th quarter of tight games. Yes the sample size is small, but these are traits that I see. Is he an erratic passer? Yes he is, and that will never change. That doesn’t mean he can’t eventually be a franchise QB because it sounds like this training camp he’s either way off or he’s right on the money with the throw. I do think you can become a franchise QB and still be an erratic passer. You just have to have those clutch qualities of being accurate when the game is on the line. I will be all on board the Tyrod Taylor train if he’s the guy picked because I see some Russell Wilson in his game. I do like the guy. But that means nothing in regards to what Manuel will eventually become in this league since EJ is still getting better as a QB. Manuel is still developing even if he doesn't win the job. This is a fact that's beyond disputing and EJ should be getting respect from non-EJ fans for his showing signs of improvement. There's great chance that you'll be proven right about EJ, but at least wait till he stinks in a real game under these new coaches and system. He really has yet to suck other than a few bad practices. He's looked good in the preseason games.
  10. Not so much... http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000394399/article/patriots-defense-crushes-cassel-vikings-for-win I love this comment... "Where are the Cassel supporters lol....hate ta say, "I told yah so!" A beat down in NO and by wk 4 like I called...Cassel will be where he belongs...ridin pine!"
  11. The major flaw is the LBs and DBs sitting on the short routes and blowing them up. We've seen this before with Fitzpatrick and it won't work for an extended period of time.
  12. I refuse to believe that Roman likes Cassel over Taylor. I don't care about the rumor. I think it's got to be a smokescreen.
  13. Pop in the tape of Cassel against the Patriots last season and that should cure anyone of thinking he is the "safe" choice.
  14. Because he is the star of the show and the three QBs are supporting players right now. I think there is an important dynamic there that there shouldn't be a major disconnect on if they plan on having a successful offense. It's more of a positive energy vs negative energy dynamic that I'm referring to. No doubt that Sammy wants to have the same kind of success that ODB had last year and if he's floundering with a QB who's thrown him only 2 TDs in five games and he's the QB he never wanted in the first place...it's probably not going to be a good thing. Who knows, maybe Sammy has no preference and he's just glad it's not his decision. That could be the case also.
  15. I think a star such as Sammy should be consulted on the decision. I know that if I were the head coach I'd ask him if he had a major preference between the three guys. Now if there were a big fundamental problem with Sammy's pick for QB then Rex would be able to inform him why he might not be the right QB to go with. I'd be shocked if Rex didn't ask Sammy his thoughts and want to give Sammy what he wants.
  16. That's ridiculous. Why? Because both Cassel and Taylor have played well by all accounts. Just because if he didn't win the competition it wouldn't mean that he wouldn't surpass them at some point during the year. He's been getting better and he looks very confident. I would agree with you though only as far as if Manuel didn't surpass Cassel at some point during the year. He should be gone then. I actually think that Cassel is the worst QB on the team though. The reason I think that is because I really don't think he will play well in real games. He's seemed like a shot player the last few years. Yes, he can play well from time to time, but it's very off and on. I fear that a team with pressure will make this version of Matt Cassel wilt. I don't think that would happen with the young, hungry and fearless guys Taylor and Manuel.
  17. I really think the whole Bills team probably wants to see this^^^^ Debating about who you think is the best QB is one thing, but to not see what EJ Manuel looks like against first string when he has been the only one scoring touchdowns would be a dereliction of duty for Rex IMO. The only harm is not giving some reps to a journeyman backup QB (who cares) or a QB who has never started a game before in his life in which a handful of first team snaps in a preseason game are not going to matter much anyways. Taylor simply did not distance himself greatly enough to solidify the job beyond any debate. If that were the case then it would be pointless to have EJ play with the ones.
  18. Points???? We don't need no stinkin' points!!...LOL
  19. Not necessarily true... Eli Manning vs Tom Brady Russell Wilson vs Peyton Manning Joe Flacco vs Tom Brady Having said that, I'm glad we aren't stuck with a Dalton or an Alex Smith. IMO both QBs will never be at the level of "good enough". Having Taylor and Manuel as still developing QBs, we can hope that one of them turns out to be "good enough" come playoff time.
  20. Yet neither Cassel nor Taylor have thrown a touchdown pass in preseason, where EJ has two touchdown passes and a two point conversion that won the Bills the game against the Browns.
  21. That's not really an argument because one could counter with... Cassel = Fitzpatrick Taylor = "insert name of failed running QB" All three QBs have concerns and questions to overcome no matter who is named the starter.
  22. Rex has two guys he wants to keep happy, McCoy and Watkins. IMO, the guy who throws the best deep ball is the guy to go with because it opens up big holes for McCoy and Sammy will have 14 TDs. Sammy would be a genius with that kind of selfish thinking!
  23. If Rex is truly a player's coach then he will no doubt ask Sammy Watkins "off the record" who he thinks is the best QB and the one he wants as the starter. Sammy is a big star and I think that what he thinks will carry a lot of weight. The Bills want him happy and for him to have a huge breakout season. Sammy may not even know who he'd like best right now, but I'm sure that Rex will ask him.
  24. WGR’s steadfast "there's no debate, EJ is #3 and way behind" opinion is clearly in the minority according to their own poll. Yet they’d look at the majority as if they had three heads because they want to see EJ with the ones against the Steelers…LOL
  25. Well that's seriously embarrassing to WGR's narrative.
