Bills' Camp @ SJF: Week 1 Day 6 - Begins on Page 64

You made a direct comparison between Gabbert and Manuel. You inferred that since Gabbert did nothing under Roman why should we expect anything from Manuel. Right off the bat it's bogus. A much better comparison would be to compare EJ Manuel to an early career Alex Smith. -

Except that Blaine Gabbert wasn’t anywhere near as good as EJ Manuel. Look it up… http://www.pro-football-reference.com -
Astro-Notes Day 2: Satuday 8-1-15
1billsfan replied to Astrobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If I'm the Bills, I tell WGR to cut the 24/7 "EJ sucks" crap and start being fair or expect to have the plug pulled on player and coaches interviews. If EJ is indeed showing the most promise of the three in camp (let's also all remember that this is a brand new offense and they are going against the NFL's #1 defense) and WGR is still trashing him then I'm reconsidering my business relationship with them. I get that they can have their opinions, but if the opinions are trumped by what's actually happening on the field then I have all the right to terminate all interviews with them. -
Those guys at WGR are just clueless. It's got to the point of being embarrassing and cringe worthy. I think Sal needs to retire his "QB percentages" schtick.
-
Carucci, Rodak, Sal C., Buscaglia, and seemingly everyone at WGR have all had this troll-like dislike for EJ Manuel. It’s beyond odd. It’s embarrassing that these guys are even covering the Bills. I get that fans are ridiculously impatient and don’t know that when experts say that someone is a two to three year project that it actually means they are a two to three year project. But when professionals like Vic blow up the internet with a stupid comment like him thinking Manuel could possibly get cut, it tells me that these guys are no better than message board trolls. What does it say about professional beat reporters that message board fans are providing better coverage than the paid professionals? Seriously. Major thanks to Astro, someone needs to give him a paying writing gig covering the Bills. As for radio, WGR is unlistenable. I tried to listen to the stream yesterday and had to turn it off. They really need to fire everyone over there. If Manuel takes hold of the starting job quickly then whats the reason to have hard core Manuel haters as your radio show hosts given that that is the Buffalo Bills radio station? Sports are supposed to be about fun and hope and all they got over there is EJ hate and overall despair. It’s a shame.
-
There's probably a reason why they're covering an NFL team which has been one of the bottom rungs on the latter for a very long time. These Bills beat reporters really seem like "bottom of the barrel" types. I'll rely on the fans impressions this training camp than the local media's impressions who seem to always be looking for any reason to get their digs in on Manuel. Having said that, if Manuel doesn't nail down this job after getting all of this "in your face" "you suck" fuel this off season then he has no business being an NFL starting QB. I'm looking very much forward to see what EJ does against the NFL's #1 defense tomorrow.
-
Cutting a former 1st round QB with only 14 starts and who’s learning a brand new offense for a measly 1.6 million of additional cap money would take some serious balls. IMO there’s literally no chance EJ plays that badly in training camp. You’d have to be almost 90% or above sure EJ is a worthless NFL QB to make that kind of a ballsy move. So thankful the time has come for EJ to shut up the haters. I'm not calling you a hater, I'm just tired of the silly scenarios regarding EJ getting cut or traded this training camp. There has been not one single mention of "Geno Smith might get cut" rumors this offseason. Why EJ got this treatment by the press and by fans is beyond me.

Brady 4 game suspension upheld; Will go to court
1billsfan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Anybody remember Tom Brady's unequivocal denials at the beginning stages of this scandal? Of course not, because there weren't any. His explanations in his news conferences and interviews were always carefully crafted exercises in non-denial denials. He had his chance at the beginning to clear his name with a swift denial without any ambiguity. That first impression was all every American who's not a Pats fan (or Skip Bayless) needed. No lawyer in the world can undo the damage and this continuation of the circus is only making it much worse and could possibly effect his and Belichick's HOF status depending on what happens this season. -

First, Robert Kraft needs to be shown the door. If I'm an owner I'm done with him and his over decade long cheating franchise. Secondly, Tom Brady and the Pats' ball carriers had better look good this year (i.e. inaccurate passes, fumbles) using properly inflated balls because if I was a HOF voter I would seriously consider never voting for Brady if he stinks it up and the Pats are fumbling the football left and right in 2015. -

One very good thing about him playing for the Buffalo Bills was that EJ got to go through his first two "awkward" years in relative anonymity. I think that he had some thin skin that needed to be toughened up and made thicker. I don't think there's anyone still around who thinks that he's a broken player due to his benching last year. I remember all of these NFL pundits being over the top about how EJ was over and done because you can't go back to him since he was benched. Basically insinuating that he was too damaged mentally. That was so stupid. I think that all signs are pointing to EJ nailing down the starting job early in training camp with Taylor being the solid backup who will be ready to come in if EJ can't get it done. I'm so looking forward to this training camp. All Bills fans will be hanging on every big and little tidbit of QB news coming out. Can't believe it's only days away! -
Trump could damage the Dems in one very specific and effective way. Probably about 80% of Americans are not tuned into politics. The Dems can get away with scandal after scandal after scandal because Americans generally don't know and don't care. The GOP are being stupid picking fights with Trump. They should be using him as a club to pound the MSM by him telling America every day how bad Obama and Hillary are at their jobs. Instead of the Dems totally fake "Hope and Change" slogan, the GOP can actually win this election by having Trump brain stamping a "tuned out" America that Hillary is a big fat loser before the general election season really begins. However, all that ground work goes out the door if Biden comes in late and is the candidate. Trump will probably not be around by then. He certainly isn't going to win the GOP nomination. The blunt way Trump talks is very easy for Americans to digest and understand. I would think that is kind of a scary notion for the Dems and the MSM. They don't understand that Americans are "Game of Thrones" blood thirsty for non-politicians and non-political speeches. IMO Americans by and large don't like anybody out there now. They think politicians are basically all the same in that both Dem and GOP just want to protect the DC bubble and don't really care about people who have no special interest lobbyists fighting for them. My take on Trump is that he can possibly effect the narrative in a critical mass way that sets whoever the real GOP candidate on a real winning path. We shall see. IMO, it's been very entertaining watching the Trump show while it's still on the air.
-
It's crazy how a narrative could be so different in the court of public opinion, yet real stats tell the story that the players are essentially at or near the same level. I seriously can't remember a time and place where an NFL player had a better opportunity to shove it in the vast majority's faces of the people who think he sucks than EJ Manuel has in front of him right now.
-
Why? So they will eventually have a Raider game late next year and not make the playoffs? There's simply no hiding the QB position in the NFL. Well sure, of course there is if you can argue that you are ok with being the Vikings from two years ago or Chiefs circa today. It's time for the whiney fans to put their big boy pants on and get ready to watch Manuel "let er rip" because they are going to use him exactly like they used Kaepernick. Being ok with Cassel is like being ok with not even trying at all. Being ok with throwing in the towel rather than reaching for anything real or genuine. Rex is going to do something that no one has ever done with EJ, he is going to put his trust in him. Then and only then will we all get to see the real EJ Manuel and not the pretend NFL QB he's been forced to play like.
-
Given the last few years, I think deep down many Bills fans are furious this franchise didn't draft Russell Wilson in the third round. Not only that, they moved up in the third for a total stiff of a WR. They simply can't help themselves to take it out on EJ. So they proclaim EJ Manuel as a Blaine Gabbert type of total failure, when the reality is that EJ's at least shown promising enough attributes in his play for the reasonable fans to still have faith that he will eventually become a franchise QB.
-
Has any player in Bills history inspired more hatred for performing like the very definition of the project QB in which he was clearly billed as when he was drafted? BTW, you seriously consider 19 TDs (pass/rush) in 14 games as a failure for a guy who was a project QB to begin with? If he had a full 16 games he would have had at least 21 TDs for a season's worth of games. That's a failure now? I think some people have been brainwashed into thinking he was much worse than he was in reality.
-
I’m a believer in Manuel, but I think he will need to win at least three games this year by putting the team on his back to solidify his starting position in 2016 (that and have the Bills in the playoffs of course). I think he will do that because he’s more mature, he has a professional OC and the offensive players are better around him. Having said that, just like all the haters, he never mentions the 2013 Falcons/Bills game with the season in balance and where EJ had the game won in the 4th quarter and in OT until fumbles after clutch passes to Stevie and Chandler. The team then went to Tampa and collectively played like they had checked out for the season.
-
Hughes was drafted 31st overall and seen as kind of a project type of player. He wasn't predicted to become the scary OLB he's turned into, if he was he'd have been a top 10 pick. Granted, Manuel did not have as much of the scouts' backing as Hughes did, but there are similarities. Enough so that I certainly would not count out Manuel developing into a franchise QB along the lines of getting to a "Flacco" franchise QB level. I think the huge key here is seeing how Manuel does with these new coaches. If there's a drastic improvement in Manuel's play then we can all start to get excited about where this team is going.
-
I think this serves as a cautionary tale as to why fans and media shouldn't give up on EJ Manuel after only two seasons. Jerry Hughes was considered a 1st rd bust with the Colts. Was it the coaching? Was it him needing four years to come into his own? Both? Not sure. But Bills fans would have packed Hughes' bags for him if the Bills had drafted him and got the same 3 year very low production that Indy did. Call me crazy, but I still think that Manuel can clear the bar and make that huge jump in production just like Hughes did. He's got two years of seasoning and now has new coaches, it could actually happen almost the same way for him.

I did some research on this MMQB Andy Benoit guy. Just last month he posted on his twitter page that women's sports weren't worth watching (it's shocking he still has a job at a major sports publishing company like SI). This guy is extremely stupid considering his grand pronouncement was quickly followed by the women's soccer team smashing ratings records. BTW Bills fans, he didn't just say that the Bills had the worst QB situation. He said on twitter that is was by a "WIDE WIDE MARGIN". So Bills fans everywhere should take comfort in the history of the more grand idiot Andy's pronouncements, the more wrong he seems to be...LOL It's funny that his prediction of Cassel being the starter is going to be wrong too. He couldn't even get that part right.
-
On the contrary, I thought you "he's worth it" guys would have woken up and smelled the coffee by now. In what universe is Russell Wilson worth 25 million dollars a year? It's laughable. If I'm a Seahawk fan, I'd much rather have the same top defense the next five years with a QB like RGIII or Kaepernick QBing with two extra #1s in my pocket for drafting a QB, than I would have a way over rated Russell sucking up 25 million dollars worth of cap space every season. I think some people here have lost their minds thinking Wilson is worth that kind of money. I don't see it at all. Not only is he not as great as you think he is, he looks like a selfish punk now with that "25 million" throw down. What happened to that all about the team, good guy? LOL
-
If Wilson's agent isn't postering I'd say "see ya!". The Seahawks were still 4-1 in games when Wilson was under 70 in QB rating. If I'm the Seahawks, I think the bigger gamble is betting on Wilson living up to that contract and making up for losing so many great players due to cap problems the next few years. IMO, even if they didn't get Rivers or E. Manning. The worst of the QBs available would be guys like Bradford, Kaepernick, Foles, Cutler or RGIII. Plus, you'd have two 1st round picks in your back pocket through the trade to a team like the Browns. I kind of like the idea of signing a veteran and drafting a QB for the future in 2016. The 2016 offseason QB market is going to be the best one ever IMO. I just don't see Wilson as an elite QB who has the ability to carry a team on his back like Brees, Rodgers or Brady. Therefore I would not give him a salary that would blow up the cap for years.
-
People forget that there are really big names out there for the 2016 free agent QB class. I could definitely see the Seahawks slapping a tag on Wilson, getting two 1st round picks, saving their defense by not being on the hook for a gigantic long term deal AND then signing either Rivers or E. Manning to a two year deal. They could then draft a 1st or 2nd rd QB in 2016 to groom behind the veteran. If I'm Seattle I don't like hearing Wilson's demand for being the highest paid player. That's like slapping the hand that gave you the perfect situation to maximize your first big NFL contract. Seattle should get a break on the deal. I almost hope that Seattle ends up trading Wilson to the Browns so that he's really on the hook to prove that he's worth that kind of money. Because there will be no where to hide (see Marshawn plus great defense) there.

I think there hasn't been enough attention on the possibility of the Bills actually having a good offense this year. The offense has been so stifled for so long by Marrone's ultra-safe and predictable philosophy that I could see a 180 degree turnaround this year. I see the Bills as being like the Seahawks or Niners teams from a few seasons ago. A team that becomes very good, very fast due to the offense catching up enough to a top defense to become a very tough team to beat.
