Enough incoherence/whining from WGR re: EJ
1billsfan replied to OCinBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The only reason they "nailed it" is because Cassel came back with his tail between his legs when no one else in the NFL wanted him. The Bills hold EJ in much higher regard than they do Cassel. The depth chart beyond Taylor is penciled in at this point. Tyrod Taylor hasn't thrown one NFL TD pass and a few days before his first start ever you're busting on the EJ supporters? I get that you're extremely confident in Taylor, but EJ had 4 TD passes in preseason and a much higher QB rating. If I were you I'd just let it go, because what you're doing will only shorten Taylor's honeymoon. Maybe you don't care about Taylor having calm waters for his first few career starts. -
Unfortunately I think that heavy rain might tamp down on crowd noise. In that aspect, I really hope it's a nice day for a LOT of noise at RWS just like the good old days. Also, I want to see what our highly skilled offensive players can do in good conditions. it would be nice to see the Bills put up 40+ on the Colts. How great would the enthusiasm for this season be if that happens? I'd rather not be in a constant state of worry that the other team putting up too many points and constantly hope for bad weather, I want to have the confidence that the Bills offense is just as dangerous given great conditions.

Will the Bills dress 3 QBs against the Colts?
1billsfan replied to PlayoffsPlease's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Geez, that's a great question! What if the Bills are down three TDs at halftime and Taylor's out of the game with an injury at the end of the first half? I don't think there's anyone here (EJ haters included) who'd want Rex to send in Cassel over Manuel in that scenario. You have to have a QB that can throw the ball deep to even have a shot at pulling off the win in the second half. -
To be fair, I did call him delusional. I just don't get the continued hate of EJ Manuel. It's like all these guys are in denial that they are on the wrong side of the EJ argument. Maybe their hope is that if or when EJ comes in to play at some point, he could potentially look horrible and they can say they were right. Because IMO EJ did look awesome in the preseason games. I don't know one EJ supporter who is trashing Tyrod Taylor, so why are they doing this to EJ? It's kind of twisted at this point.
-
Says the guy who spent the better part of the last year trashing EJ. A guy whose play on the field was awesome this preseason.
-
You're delusional.
-
Telling someone to “tone it down” who was being 100% completely fair and rational in their explanations of the massive groupthink fail in Buffalo regarding EJ is ridiculous. Thankfully the season’s here because I’ve had enough of the cluelessness of the EJ haters.

The essence of playing NFL quarterback is making the big throws and making the big plays. EJ is almost the perfect prototype NFL QB size-wise. Now his style of play on the field (preseason, I know) is looking very much like the prototype style of what winning franchise NFL QBs are asked to do. I'm not betting against Taylor because Russell Wilson has shown it can be done in that style. Having said that, EJ Manuel played preseason football in a style very similar to 9 of the last 10 Superbowl winning QBs. I actually think Manuel won the job by a nose at the wire because I put a lot more into throwing TD passes than long drives. But I will be rooting for Taylor to play great and prove me wrong.
-
Yes, TT won the starting job on the field. What I'm talking about is winning the starting job for the next 10 years by consistently winning regular season and playoff games. Taylor hasn't won that job yet and if he falters or gets injured then Manuel will get his opportunity. My hope is that Taylor is the guy (because he's first man up) and if not, then I hope Manuel is the guy. IMO the Bills are in a great position with these two young QBs who are solid guys and ready to make a mark on the league. I don't hate on Taylor. I'm not sure why fans like you continue to hate on Manuel. Given the rocket-like rise in his play under Roman one would think you could stop and simply admit you were possibly very wrong about his prospects.
-
First of all, thanks to the CBA are no longer LOTS of practices...LOL You should know that. Secondly, in practice, QBs are not allowed to be hit so I could see why a statue like Cassel would show much greater there than he would in games where he can potentially be hit hard. By training camp practice #11, EJ Manuel was being written off by a larger and larger number group of people in both the local media and fans alike. That's after only 22 hours of "real time" work learning a brand freakin new NFL offense for a young QB like Manuel who was taught by a rank amateur for his first two years! In the end, all of these people were proven wrong. You have to have some sense of perspective on the actual situation. I just don't understand the continued EJ hate when it's crystal clear that he has made a dramatic improvement in his play later on in training camp under the new coaching staff and he will no doubt be challenging Taylor for the starting job until either Taylor or Manuel win the job on the field.
-
Not sure how many people are left on that island with you. There's you, Doug Marrone, WGR and... <crickets chirping>
-
Remember how they would love to complain and mock EJ's supporters so-called "excuses"? I'd be bummed too if I was trashing EJ for half a year and now under professional NFL coaching that he looks like he's truly developing into a potential franchise QB. Especially considering that we haven't had one in 20 years. It'd be nice if they would come out and say it that looks like they were wrong and they should have had way more patience and taken a wait and see approach with what Manuel would do under Rex and Greg Roma's coaching. I always said that if an idiot like Doug Marrone thought EJ wasn't any good then there was a great chance he is the real deal.
-
I do like your thought posts Bill, but you will be proven wrong regarding EJ Manuel. He’s clearly thriving in Roman’s offense and it looks like he has flipped the light switch to the “on” position. Just look at how fast Matt Cassel has gone from probably starter to becoming potentially expendable. That should tell you that EJ not only impressed the coaches, but he probably blew them away with what he did in those preseason games. Cassel is no longer even the second string QB, EJ is the second string QB. Two weeks ago Cassel was everyone’s starter. This is what EJ Manuel thriving under professional coaching looks like.

You are talking about the initial 11 practices into training camp for a 25 year old QB who had never had professional NFL coaching before (anyone seriously want to debate this?) and who was learning a brand new offense that is probably light years ahead of Marrone's offense. The EJ supporters saw a dramatic rise in his play as the preseason games were being played. EJ's stats were crazy good. We see Manuel as a future franchise QB because in the preseason games he was playing the prototypical style of probably 9 of the last 10 Superbowl winning QBs. You obviously bought into the local media's narrative that Manuel will never amount to much and that the preseason games meant almost nothing. That Taylor is the real deal because he was steady in his play from the get go. I personally think the local media guys are dumb. I also think that Marrone is dumb. All of their combined low opinions on EJ Manuel makes me believe in the QB even more. I think Taylor could be something special, but his style of play is so rare for ultimate Superbowl winning success. If he does play like Russell Wilson by being clutch and beating great teams then I'm good with him as our future franchise QB. But IMO I think the chance is much greater that Manuel is going to become a franchise QB over Taylor. -

If you don't want Taylor nitpicked then I suggest you and others stop the Manuel bashing. BTW, there is nothing fair or reasonable about you framing EJ's preseason as having "had a very nice two quarters of a preseason game". This place is well-known for it's season-long heated QB debates, I'm surprised you guys want to take it there so soon. -

There is no point for fans here to trash EJ any longer. If they do, it's probably because they feel vindicated that their guy won the job and it's safe for them to resume the bashing. If they feel safe bashing Manuel (who I feel is the best QB on the team), then they should expect the heat to be turned way up on Taylor. I was fine with Taylor being the starter, but I'm getting kind of ticked off right about now after reading a few posts that got under my skin. I don't see why they want to stir it up right now when everyone was ok and willing to give Taylor a few games. I want Taylor to perform well, but he's losing his cache with EJ supporters like me because the haters can't seem to help themselves. -

I think that Manuel is better than Taylor which would make the Bills a better team if they started him. -

I was willing to give Taylor 4 games but the local media and the haters like you are changing my mind. Keep the EJ hate going though, it just puts even more pressure on Rex and Taylor, especially now that the Bills have a kicker with the serious yips. More pressure is good for them, right? Rex has a kicker who can't make field goals and a QB who can't throw a TD pass, nice! -

2015 Preseason... Manuel = 4 TD passes Taylor = 0 TD passes Go ahead, keep prodding the EJ supporters. Taylor had better look pretty awesome against the Colts because the fans who supported EJ are done with this kind of stuff and we'll no doubt "let er rip" if he isn't. -
Oh please, given Rex's frustration and anger over Carpenter, it sounds like he's nervous about his pick of Taylor over Manuel. Now he's going into the season with a kicker who has the yips and a starting QB with no TD passes. Not a great feeling going against Luck and Brady. Manuel was raining TDs this preseason and he should have been the pick to be the starting QB. There is NO WAY that they are thinking of cutting EJ Manuel unless the Bills organization has collectively totally lost their minds.

It's kind of embarrassing how very impressed the local Bills media was with Matt Cassel...LOL It really seems like they all live in a bubble and just read all their own local stuff without ever reading other sources outside of that bubble which challenges the group think. -
T-Mobile - Can we do better on the nickname?
1billsfan replied to MClem06's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Isn't "TT" the emoticon for falling tears? If he's bad he could be called Tyrod "oh no, tears are fallin" Taylor. Tyrod Taylor is about as cool of a name as one could have. No nickname needed. I think Taylor will have a hard enough time working towards being seen as a credible NFL starting QB without a gimmicky nickname weighing him down. I think T-Mobile is cringeworthy and also feels dated. -
Wawrow Article Indicates EJ Sees Wall's Writing
1billsfan replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As an EJ supporter, I was willing to give Taylor a nice 4 game look. But after reading articles like that one I'm not going to put a time limit on my support for Taylor. I'm tired of the local media trying to embarrass EJ with stupid loaded questions. I think the Bills are being short-sighted thinking that Taylor is going to last more than a few years with his style of play. Rex got it wrong and every EJ Manuel supporter know this. They know he's turned the corner. If the media wants a QB controversy than they are doing a good job of getting me worked up for one. I almost wish EJ glared at the reporter and said, "Dude, I'm the best QB on this team and you can quote me on that. I'm going to become a franchise QB either here or somewhere else. Any other questions?" -

This is the thing. EJ has been so maligned by the haters regarding what he did in his those 14 games it's got to the point where they start referencing Blaine Gabbert as a comparison to Manuel. Go to pro football reference and look at Manuel's and Gabbert's stats. Gabbert's name simply shouldn't ever be used as a comparison to him.
