Robert Ayers is going to be on ESPNs First and Ten...
1billsfan replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That'd be funny if his name was William and not Robert. Not sure of where the Mayock "pimp" humor comes from either C.Biscuit97. You're high on the Bills drafting Brandon Pettigrew in the first, but you have no idea if he'll be better than Chase Coffman who could go as late as the third round. So a guy who's job it is to watch endless hours of tape, and come to conclusions on their prospects for the NFL, thinks Ayers is not only going to be a very good DE, but one of the top players in the draft. What the hell if so funny about that? Sorry, I just don't get your humor boss. -
I'm predicting Peters will be signed before draft
1billsfan replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've always admitted when I was wrong B word. BTW, if you had reading comprehension you'd understand that it was a topic neither backing him or slamming him. It was a prediction of the outcome. -

If he's not signed by draft day, he'll be traded that day. I think they're signing him though. -

I saw the first thread, that's why I referenced it. But I didn't read anything further than the OP's post. Didn't see that ESPN story. I just wanted to take the info to it's next logical conclusion and state when and why they would sign him. -
I think the Buffalo Bills lost a ton of fan approval momentum that was gained by the acquiring Owens when it was announced that Lynch would be getting a three game suspension and right after that Whitner was tased and arrested. Boom boom, very bad, very negative press just like that. How do you help sell the team again? Well you don't do that by trading away your best and currently most important player at one of the toughest positions for a draft pick. You show him the money, making the fans happy, making the QB happy, making the coach happy and move on to the other big booster shot of fan excitement, the draft. Also, you don't trade someone you "value". Hey, this is my theory... you can shoot it down if you'd like.

Who's your 2009 "Whitner Pick" at #11
1billsfan replied to Kingfish's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
From my recollection, Whitner was regarded late first/early second round till his stock quickly rose to the middle of rd 1 leading up to draft day. In hindsight, the guy was a second round talent that was clearly a reach at #8. I never said he was going to be drafted in the second round if the Bills didn't take him. -

There's not a day that goes by that I don't tick you off, is there. Don't you find it strange that given his bloodlines that he's continually ranked in the high twenties of top prospects? If he was truly first round talent I've got to believe he'd be ranked at least in the top 20 players given who his pop and uncle were in the NFL. It's just an opinion, and I've certainly got nothing against the Bills grabbing Matthews in the second. At #11? Hells no. -

You mean second round talent they'd pick that high in the first round? The only player that I could see as possibly ever happening with would be Clay Matthews. But who knows with the "let's get cute and trick everybody" Bills. -
Wasn't the '08 Browns game supposed to be a Bills win for payback to losing to them in '07? I so wanted Raheem Morris to be the new head coach of the Bills in '09. The guy looks like someone who has a ton of drive, competitiveness and personality. I'd be surprised if he fell on his face as a head coach. Everything our team lacks on Sundays, he looked to have in spades. Tampa made a great move with that shakeup.
-
If only we knew those guys would be there. I don't think either of them would be there. Then there's the problem of still not having a bonafide center. I'd rather grab a DE at #11, then either Mack, Unger or Caldwell in the second. If one of the QBs are still there at #11 they probably would be able to trade back for a second rounder then get a decent guard AND a top center. I'm hoping that Cornelius Ingram TE will be there in the third. I'm thinking that one of the good TEs like him or Coffman will fall to us in the third. Pass rushing DE is the main hole I want the Bills to fill though.
-
It's clearly too early for me.
-
Sorry, but I'm just not into creating a huge unnecessary hole and hoping it will be filled by a guy that was too lazy to get in shape for the scouting combine. Could he be all that? Sure he could. But the Bills are just jackasses when it comes to trying to keep their best players. They instead overpay over-rated players like Schobel and Kelsay, and they can't wait to extend the contract of the well-documented biggest loser Jauron. This team's top priority is to find a pass rusher, an outside linebacker and a center. Not trade away Peters and filling that position with an out of shape rookie, hoping he won't eat himself out of the league.

Great post. I believe in the saying that team's take on the personality of their head coach. So we Bills fans have now had to endure three years worth (going on a fourth) of guys who say all the right things during the week, but look clueless and passionless on Sundays. Just like their head coach. There are still some diehard fans who believe that this team will have a winning season in 2009, but I see zero chance of that happening. I realistically see a 4 to 6 win season mainly because of coaching. If the Bills actually had a coach that knew what he was doing and how to prepare his players, then I think they could get themselves to a 10-7 record with this schedule. That's how much of an anchor Jauron will be to this team.

Looks like Jauron designed it. -
T. Graham's new Peters article
1billsfan replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's too bad that there's not an archive of what the feeling was here regarding whether or not the Bills should show Pat Williams the money or just let him go. Yes he was a free agent, but one way or another it's going to work out the same way. Peters will either have a new contract with the Bills or he will be traded on draft day. I don't think this Peters thing is going to last beyond the draft. So when it all shakes down and he's one of the best LTs in the game playing on another team and the Bills are drafting another LT bust after LT bust looking for the next Jason Peters, that extra 2 or three million's gonna look like chump change. Regardless of their respective contract status', I do see similarities here with what the end result will be. Until Stroud showed up the Bills have been missing that big fat bastard Pat Williams. How long did that take? -
Says the guy who said "only an idiot would judge a player by SportsCenter highlights" when it was clear to everyone that VJ91 was talking about Whitner's three years worth of few hard hits and not literally the lack of SportsCenter highlights. As for Owens, it was clearly a panic move to sell tickets. Doesn't mean it was a bad move, I actually think it was a panic move that the Bills will benefit from. I don't think it came from their football intelligence though, they saw the opportunity to satisfy the fans' general outrage over Jauron being kept on as head coach and to help recoup the loss of ticket sales. This move would have been laughed at in season one, two and three of the Jauron era. Terrell Owens couldn't be any further from Jauron-ball if he was in another universe. It's clear they knew the fans had had their fill of Jauron. It's clear they were worried more about ticket sales then if Hardy or Johnson could in fact take over the #2 receiver duties. BTW, that's an opinion not an assumption.
-
Injuries, lack of pass rush, poor usage by coaches. Give me an f'n break with the excuse violins for Whitner. If the guy was all that then he'd have at least had a handful of great games out of the 42 he's started in by now.
-
It's my opinion, not assumption, that they were covering their asses for not drafting Ngata. Though McCargo was said to be a good fit as DT in the 4-3 defense, I think that they knew they'd catch some serious heat if they didn't get the last highly rated DT in the draft. I don't assume anything when it comes to the Bills' "braintrust" and their decision-making. I don't know what the real truth is, I can only make an opinion as to what I feel the real reasons were. Now answer my question, was picking Owens a panic (panic as in this case a "we need to sell tickets") move?
-
You do realize that picking up Owens was a panic move don't you?
-
That'll be Jauron's job. Make sure you blow a lot of snot rags and toss them on the floor so Mr. "It's hard to win in the NFL" has to pick them up.
-
Jeeez, I'd certainly rather have that extra draft pick AND Nick Mangold than Whitner. Please go and offer your services to One Bills Drive immediately. We actually lost a pick when they foolishly moved up to go and get McCargo to try and cover their asses for not getting Ngata! Damn, I'm getting angry all over again!
-
Vernon Davis wasn't there at #8 and I believe that Bunkley fell out of favor because of character and effort concerns leading up to the draft. I don't remember there being that big of a Bunkley faction by draft day. Fans here were salivating over Ngata when that #8 pick came around. No it wasn't 99.9%, but it was the majority of the board.

Unsubstantiated second-hand Peters news
1billsfan replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree. I was at the game and never saw the play since I was sitting in the front row behind the Bills at the far 40 yard line. All I saw was Losman rolling right till the sideline players were (thankfully) blocking my view of the live play, then I heard the that gawd-awful Jets home crowd roar, then I looked at the jumbotron and saw the Jet in the endzone jumping up and down with the ball. I went home and watched the play on tivo about ten times and that safety did a great fake job. The play was one of the dumbest calls in Bills history, the Jets KNEW it was coming (why else would the safety fake like that if they felt it was going to be a run? You don't fake a safety blitz on a running play.), Peters never expected the safety was going to fake blitz, Losman should have held onto the ball. -
You guys are taking what he said way too literally. His point was that Donte Whitner was being billed as a very hard hitting strong safety and we as Bills fans have yet to see that side of his game.
