How much does the cold weather
1billsfan replied to grammer_police's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I remember Trent complaining about being "cold and damp" after the blizzard in Cleveland in 2007. If your the starting QB of the Buffalo Bills you're a certifiable wuss if you complain about playing football in bad weather. -
That's a weird response given that the guy was giving you a specific example of Whitner's general lack of superior playing ability. Care to explain your attempt at putting him down for that?
-
It IS an answer to your question. Since Whitner has not shown more than a few flashes of brilliance (which we would have seen if he did in fact have the same talent level of those all pro guy's) then it stands to reason he's probably never going to become even a very good player. Would Losman have become a very good player with a great offensive line? No. So stop with the excuse machine for Donte Whitner. We've seen him play in 42 games and the jury is in...he's average and that makes him a big bust considering where the Bills took him. Great line or no great line.
-
Yes I did... Post #90- "Sorry, but it stands to reason that even with a lousy pass rush that he'd have shined with his big playmaking ability in at least handful of games by now." In 42 games he's played in, we'd have seen more than a few flashes by now. You guys are starting to sound like us former Losman supporters did a couple years ago. Excuses, excuses, excuses. Losman had a horrible offensive line, so what. He'd have sucked with a good line too. Whitner may not suck as badly, but the guy was picked in the top ten of the draft and is well deserving of the beat down.
-
You say irrational fans, I say that were being realistic fans. You keep on hoping for a turnaround to his career though. Hey I like Lynch and Evans, they've actually have shown that they belong in the NFL. Sorry, but Edwards and Poz have so far shown me very little in terms of having exceptional ability at key positions which are needed to help this team become winners again. But you're right in that they're all young (even Whitner) and may still live up to their once very promising potential.

Peters wants a new contract/Jackson wants a new contract
1billsfan replied to Poeticlaw's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Trent wants to pout, then so be it. If he feels the starting QB should be the one making the most money then maybe they should go ahead and bench Trent and start Fitz. At least Peters showed pro bowl ability in 2007 whatever happens in regards to his contract. Edwards can't seem to get the ball into the endzone, especially against decent defenses. He should worry more about that. -
What, he can't make an interception or a forced fumble down the field of play? Sometimes I just wish Donald Trump would buy the Bills just so he could fire the entire coaching staff and about 43 of the players.
-
If he hasn't become a big playmaker after 42 starts then he will never become a big playmaker. Sorry, but it stands to reason that even with a lousy pass rush that he'd have shined with his big playmaking ability in at least handful of games by now. I think that he'll always be a very average starter, which is why so many fans are just in their ragging on this former top ten pick. We've done it with all the other Bills' past draft busts so what makes Donte Whitner so freaking special that he gets a pass? F him and his stupid facebook page.

You're thinking waaaaay too highly of Trent Edwards. His play was very bad after the Charger game except when facing the defenseless Chiefs and Broncos. He played Losman-like bad. During JP's worst stretches of play bad. Trent was bad. The Bills should actually be thinking about drafting a raw talented QB with very good potential after the third round. If "The Natural" Trent Edwards continues his downward spiral then the Bills will no doubt have a four or five win season in 2009 and will be drafting a QB within the first five picks of the 2010 draft. Although you never know with Ralph, he did hand one of the worst coaches in NFL history a three year deal. Trent might as well throw his hat into the renegotiating contract ring. -
Mike Mayock's Mock Draft Picks 1-10

It'd be nice to have a defensive player that played his ass off. I forgot what that looks like. -
This reply is 50% crap. GO BILLS!!!

Mike Mayock's Mock Draft Picks 1-10
1billsfan replied to Mark Vader's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I never really considered any of them as the workout warrior types, although Peterson was pretty damn ripped. Hey, any of these DE's are a crapshoot. I didn't say Orakpo was going to be a bust, just that I didn't like that specific phrase attached to a football player. I'd rather see him described as a "baller". Willis was a "baller" type. Lynch is a "baller" type. Hopefully we get a "baller" type whether it's Orakpo, Brown or whoever it is. -

To me, "BUST ALERT!!!!" means talking about first/early second round picks. Workout warriors scare me. -

Peters went undrafted. We're talking the #11 (don't you dare screw it up) pick here. I will give you Javon Kearse though. He was a serious "freak" for a few good years. -

Now there's a phrase that screams "WARNING...WARNING...BUST ALERT!!!!" Not saying he's going to be one, but that phrase does give me the serious heebeegeebees. What "athletic freak of nature" has ever been able to transfer that to the game of football? I can't think of one. In fact, the "athletic freaks" that come to my mind are Tony Mandarich, Brian Bosworth, Mike Mamula, Vernon Davis, Vernon Gholston. The first highlights I saw of Orakpo was a youtube clip of him lifting in the gym. I'm taking Crabtree in a heartbeat in that scenario. -
It's not about being positive or being negative. It's about being both fair and honest in an opinion. Now you obviously think that I'm not being fair to Whitner, but I did give you the Losman comparison to show how overly fair the majority of Bills fans have been to him. He's only just now starting to catch some heat and this was a guy who was picked 16 spots higher than the much debated (a debate I clearly lost) boom/bust project QB. I just don't get the double standard though. Same goes with Jauron, the guy was a six of seven time loser after the 2007 season and I was pleading here that he get fired because it was so painfully obvious that he'd never become a good head coach. But people thought I was crazy to even suggest that Jauron sucked that badly. So during the 2008 season, Ralph gave him a premature contract extension for three more freaking years. To be fair and honest, the Bills are f'd this coming season because Dick Jauron is coaching this team. I'm passionate about this sh_t man. I'm both angry and tired at the continued acceptance of utterly uninspired football. I won't be a truly happy Buffalo Bills fan until that man has coached his last game in Buffalo. Only then will hope be restored at One Bills Drive. It will still be fun to watch the season because even in the worst of seasons I still love the Bills and I still love football.

Those who criticize posters who have accepted Whitner as the biggest bust draft pick since Mike Williams are in denial. How about we get real, stop with the excuse machine and expect him to play the role which he was drafted for, that of an all-pro strong safety. Unfortunately that will never happen since he clearly has the stench of a big bust draft pick. He's a free safety now? What a joke. Losman, who was drafted at #26 in the first round, was labelled a bust here after his third season. I thought the jury was still out, I was wrong on that. So why doesn't Donte Whitner, who plays a MUCH easier position and was drafted at #8 in the first round, get a pass? Losman was considered a project who was a very risky boom/bust pick, WHITNER WAS SUPPOSED TO BE GREAT THREE FREAKING YEARS AGO! Are you guys afraid he'll drop you from his friends list or something?

Probowl selections are an almost useless barometer. Please tell me the year(s) Aaron Schobel was a scary good defender. The year(s) that opposing offensive coordinators stayed up late worrying about what he'd do to their QB. In the NFL more than any other sport, stats don't tell the whole story about how good a player is. BTW, Hansen was a better player than Schobel.
-
If Dick Jauron said this just once... ...after a lifeless and uninspired losing Bills' performance, then I'd think some neurons were actually beginning to fire in his zombie-like brain.
-
Hey, that sounded like something the even keeled Jauron would say about Schobel.
-
Awesome video! Steve Johnson's our backup plan in the event of an Owen melt down, and I'm perfectly fine with that scenario. This guy is already good enough to be an NFL starter. Dude caught two redzone touchdowns in very limited playing time last season. Anyone remember these horribly acted bits from "Ace" and his Iowa State classmates?... (BTW, where does that guy fit in our plans? He was drafted as a linebacker in typical Bills "undersized defensive" logic, but looks more like a strong safety. He'd probably be at least as good as Whitner.) At least we have some entertaining personalities. It's too bad our head coach's sole purpose in life is to drain all life from guys like these on gameday.

I'm glad to see Bills fans like you and SoCal-Surf trying to keep it real. This is the season we let our favorite team know we've had enough of the same old sunny side up spin. Other than McGee, Lynch, Jackson, McKelvin and Evans, it's hard to find a player without a major flaw. In regards to Lynch's legal hassles, I'm talking purely about play on the field. At this point, I couldn't fault anyone tossing him off the non-flawed list though.

The "Other" Bills Board
1billsfan replied to Glass To The Arson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills would be insane not to take Crabtree. Maybin's potential isn't even in the same universe as Crabtree's potential. You don't take the need pick over best player available when that best player available player has HOF potential and the need pick is really a puffed up linebacker in DE clothes. -
Never talked about pressures per game. If I was an opposing defensive coordinator, Schobel wouldn't scare me in the least. Even when he was good he wasn't exactly what you'd consider a scary defender. I'd classify his play style as workman-like. He's this era's version of Phil Hanson. That's not bad at all, but let's not pretend he's a game changer. He's ok for this year, but after the Bills draft a first round DE to replace Kelsay this year, they should either use FA or another first round pick in 2010 to replace Schobel the following year.
