Fire Chan.... Hire Wannstedt
1billsfan replied to GeorgeEdwardsTeeth's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think that Chan should fire himself as offensive coordinator and hire Marty Schottenheimer or maybe even give Frank Reich a shot. Chan sucks as an OC. -
I know that the 14 who answered Spiller (including me) are feeling very secure in their selection of him being the better back. The other one hundred and some? Ahhh...I'm not so sure. How about you? Still think that Jackson is better than Spiller? I like me some Fred Jackson, but Spiller's clearly better than him already and he's still in his infancy as an NFL player. I hope they sign Jackson to an extension, but I think he needs to be (and accept) the 1B to Spiller's 1A role. BTW, Chan Gailey had better RETHINK his offensive philosophy this offseason. This team clearly should be run oriented in 2012 and Fitzpatrick needs to stop being so careless with his throws. His interception number and near interceptions are not acceptable. Denver dropped a couple of easy ones!

They had a segment on First Take this week where all three people on the panel said that they'd take Moore in the top half of the FIRST round. Now I know that Bayless is one for hyperbole, but the other two said it also (one was the that former Raider FB but I forget his name). That being said, some QBs with questions tend to get drafted 2 or 3 rounds higher than they probably should if the evaluation was done like a normal football position. But with QB being so important, the high risk/high reward factor comes into play more times than not. If this guy looks as good as everyone is saying, you can expect him to make it into the first round.

Ryan Fitzpatrick is "Regressing to the Mean"

Soooo, you're saying that there's still a chance he'll win more than 8 games? -
Who Are Your Top 5 Candidates For Head Coach
1billsfan replied to Hater's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
These are mine right now (I see Cowher and Gruden as no shots what-so-ever)... Jeff Fisher Eric Mangini - 2 reasons: Bill Parcells recently turned down Penn State coaching job then told them to hire Mangini, also I think that if Bill Belichick ever leaves the Pats would hire Mangini as their HC in a second if available Rob Ryan Tom Coughlin - If fired of course Brian Billick Tough choice between Mangini and Ryan. -
Sorry, but the heart of an NFL team is the QB. Kelly was the heart of the late 80's early 90's Bills, Brady is the heart of the Pats, Manning is the heart of the Colts (who btw went almost winless after averaging 12 wins the last five years). This team needs to do whatever it takes to get either RG III or Barkley in the 2012 draft. They haven't been relevant in this league since Kelly left the building. Fitzpatrick's complete meltdown was and is the last straw for me. This team needs a franchise QB.

Losing 7 straight games after having a 5-2 record has serious ramifications. This is the second year of the Nix/Gailey regime and at this point you need to be trending upward, not a complete free fall like they've had. I've been expecting major changes because like it or not, the bottom line in the NFL is making money and you can't make money if no one is buying tickets, merchandise, or concessions. This isn't the 70's where teams and fans are patient enough to wait on a 3 or 4 year plan. Today's fans want it yesterday. This soon to be 9 straight losses is going to slaughter the Bills' ability to make a decent profit next year. It's not right or wrong, but that is the way this business works. I think that Nix is going to fall on his sword because he knows that this collapse will kill Ralph's bottom line. He seems like he'd be the kind of a guy to offer Ralph the option of him leaving.

Speaking of Dallas, I could see Jeff Fischer becoming the Cowboy's next head coach and Gailey returning to Dallas as his offensive coordinator. Would Eric Mangini be a viable option for us? His TV gig probably has loosened him up a bit. Before you laugh, I think he'd stand a very good chance at being hired as the Pats' head coach when Belichick eventually steps down...and what would the media say? "Brilliant move! He's following Belichick's career path!" Mangini's personality is very bland, but the guy knows 3-4 defense, he knows our AFC East rivals inside and out, and maybe he'd hire Todd Haley as his OC to balance out the blandness factor...LOL

Relax. There's a difference between skills and career long production. You don't see the same skills? Obviously he still needs to work on the blocking aspect, but Spiller has indeed been showing all of the other skills that Thurman Thomas possessed.

Predicting the Draft Order
1billsfan replied to Johnny Hammersticks's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills drafting either RG III or Barkley is their #1 priority. This franchise has been lost since Jim Kelly left and the time is now to give the Rams whatever they want for the #2 pick. I'd give them the entire 2012 draft at this point. I think Bills (I hope), Browns, Dolphins, Jaguars, Redskins will all be battling it out for who can get to the #2 and #3 spots. Because that's where the QBs will be going. Too many teams with only two QBs left after Luck. The Bills should make #2 an offer they can't refuse. -
We haven't seen a guy with Spiller's RB skills since Thurman left the building. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to apologize to the Jackson fans for voicing what I'm seeing in Spiller. Jackson's an excellent workhorse RB no doubt, but Spiller has looked like an even better RB these last three starts. If Chan ever gets his head out of his a$$ and gives him the ball for a full game, you'll eventually be convinced too.
-
To my eyes, Spiller clearly looks to have "figured out" the NFL game. Given that, I think he's become the better of two very good backs after watching his last three starts. He no longer looks intimidated and his eye-popping talents have come to the surface. He's so much faster and quicker than Jackson (again, who's a very good back). I would love for Fred Jackson to stay and be the backup to Spiller and give him 10-12 carries. But I just don't see him accepting that role.

Emerging Sub Plot in Draft could effect Bills ...
1billsfan replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Losman was a late 1st round pick, which has nothing at all to do with what I'm talking about doing. I'm talking about the Bills moving into the top 3 picks to finally select Jim Kelly's replacement after a decade and a half of avoiding doing the right thing and coming up snake eyes every single time. Think about that, it's been over a decade and a half since we've had a franchise QB. There's no cheap way of doing it unless you expect another "once in a lifetime" Patriots' pick of Brady in the 6th. -
I'm sure that there's a hurt Felix Jones fan somewhere who started a thread on a Cowboys board asking who's better Felix or DeMarco. You can get upset all you want, but Spiller has proven to me to be a better RB than Jackson. He's averaging 6 yards a carry his last three games as the starting RB. You may not know this, but once a RB proves to himself he can do it and that he belongs, there's no going back. It's not like the QB position. So I suggest that you try to get over it.

Emerging Sub Plot in Draft could effect Bills ...
1billsfan replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Excuse me?!!! You have to have a QB! The Patriots are a team that has the ultimate franchise QB. You are nothing in this league unless you have one of those. The Steelers knew this. Were the Steelers stupid in trading up for Rothlesburger? BTW, the Patriots have done squat with all of those extra picks and should have been using them to trade up for impact pro bowl type players. Have you seen their defense? -
Because his coach clearly doesn't know his a$$ from his elbow. Sorry, but there's no way you can defend Chan Gailey on this. And if you can, what does that say about the GM Nix picking him in the top 10? You can "laugh out load" all you want, it still doesn't change the fact that CJ Spiller is better than Fred Jackson.
-
Yes, did you not see Spiller's last few games? Jackson is very good, but he simply does not posses the sheer talent that Spiller does. As an added plus, the guy is a great receiver!
-
Fred Jackson won't be cool playing second fiddle to Spiller and this team needs to draft a QB making Jackson too old when they are good enough to compete.
-
There is no doubt going to be a bidding war on the Barkley and RG III slots 2nd and 3rd picks in the draft. There will be us and 4 or 5 other teams involved in the bidding. So the price will be very high to get to that spot. As for Jackson, the way this season has turned out with Fitzpatrick completely coming apart at the seems, the game plan needs to change. With Fitzpatrick's fall, this team will now be on a 2 or more year schedule for the playoffs if they do go ahead and pick a QB in the 1st round. A 30 year old Jackson just wouldn't fit the new Bills model. Spiller is better than Jackson and Jackson will not accept a lesser roll on a team where he will be too old when they finally are good enough for the playoffs.
-
The team will need to recoup the draft picks spent on getting high enough in the draft to pick RG III. Spiller is better and younger than Jackson and Jackson will never accept a roll coming in off the bench. There's no doubt in my mind that a team close to the championship who doesn't have decent a RB will give up a 2nd for Jackson.
-
Spiller is the future and the future is now. This team should fire Nix and Gailey, do whatever it takes to get into position to draft RG III (2012's 1st, 2nd + 2013 1st, 2nd), then trade Fred Jackson for a 2012 2nd which should be easy to do. Make Whaley the GM and have him hire a new head coach. Perhaps Brian Billick? This team needs a drastic change in direction. They have some really good pieces in place, but prolonging this kind of change will only set this team back another 2 or more years.
-
A real football guy wouldn't have given Spiller only 12 carries today.
-
Make the Rams an offer they can't refuse.
-
This is by far the BIGGEST ISSUE of the Buffalo Bills right now. To put it mildly, Fitzpatrick has looked like crap since he was signed two months ago. And this is coming from one of the original supporters of Fitzpatrick. Suddenly, the QB position becomes the HIGHEST priority yet again. Amazing! I say they should give up whatever they have to for Barkley or RG III in the 2012 draft.
-
Thank you. This post sums up my feelings perfectly. My hope is that Chan steps down at the end of the season because I don't think that Nix will fire him.
