  1. WGR is not a NYC station. Francessa is a good voice if you want to listen to someone blasting Ryan for running his mouth.
  2. Ha, Schopp correctly predicted this straw-man argument was coming. It is possible to avoid saying that and also not say he expects 16-0.
  3. And you're vindicated by what - your own anecdotal/arbitrary memory of some pick 'em pool? Ok. It's pretty obvious you're arguing semantics just to argue at this point. You should have a blast making a fortune betting on underdogs in division games since it's not something that's accounted for in the lines.
  4. Fair point - I agree just taking the pt spreads at kickoff would be better. But I think 14yrs is enough of a sample to minimize the potential error in the criteria. Consider: A) A 2008 Dolphins-Patriots scenerio is no more likely to happen in division games than others. B) Vegas is obviously going to adjust their spreads by week 6 if the Bills are 5-0. The Dolphins-Patriots rematch in midseason '08 was about a pick 'em IIRC.
  5. And the other half don't necessarily pick home teams 100% of the time... Survivor pools tend to feature Patriots-Bills and Eagles-Skins or even Seahawks-49ers games more than Steelers-Ravens. Please report back on the fierce animosity between those teams when you get the chance. Thanks for playing, better luck next time.
  6. I was pretty disappointed with how they played vs such a crappy team. I thought the OL was supposed to be good and their interior just got blown up. The defense didn't look good. Great to see them pull it out though. The USC game ought to tell us a little something. Minnesota was able to hang with them and maybe would've won if their QB didn't get hurt. If we can't give them a competitive game, then the aspirations for winning the BE are officially a pipe dream.
  7. More than a quarter of the time. Reading is hard. I generally don't wager straight up on 3pt underdogs for a variety of reasons: mainly because I don't like flushing $ down the toilet. I can get +3 if I want it. There are plenty of teams every week that I wouldn't bet on straight up that I also wouldn't pick against in a survivor pool. So that actually just proves that your point is retarded. In 2011, players do not hate their division foes. I'm sure you can find quotes of a Giants player saying he hates the Eagles because he wanted to pander to the fans. If you think 30yrs from now there's still going to be bitterness between rivals like there is today between the 70's Steelers & Raiders you are just fooling yourself. I didn't say there was evidence that indicated upsets are less likely in division games, so I don't know why you're asking.
  8. So does Vegas.
  9. I love these things because half the people pick road teams half the time, which is pretty insane given the format. Giants @Wash - are you serious? "Don't pick division games" is a complete myth. There is no statistical evidence that backs up the theory that upsets are more likely to happen. Obviously the Chargers are more likely to get upset by Oakland than Buffalo in a given year because they play the former team about 6x more often. It's just that nobody points it out when Miami wins @Green Bay.
  10. Yes that's exactly what I said. [Retarded straw-man arguments is the other part of chapter 1].
  11. Awesome - Chapter 1, Page 1 of the Vick apologist handbook. Bring up stuff other athletes have done to marginalize dog murdering. How cute and original.
  12. Pretty much this. It's pretty irritating, hearing the same canned condescending remarks when anyone mentions they don't like the guy: "Oh you must've never made a mistake" or "oh you must value dogs more than people" or "oh you must be some Peta tree hugger freak". Actually it's none of the above - I just think the guy sucks and is scum. At least he was. I hope he's not anymore. If he isn't then good for him. But I have no real way of knowing that he's a changed man other than that's what the media tells me, which they frankly never would've done in the first place if he didn't play at an mvp level last year. As for the contract, I don't really expect last yr's level of play to be sustained based on his erratic body of work in ATL, but Philly is not a clueless organization so we'll see.
  13. It's one half of football, so neither? Didn't we have a double digit lead in the 1st half last year only to lose fairly handily?
  14. Yes because Bill Belichick openly talking about what a fabulous football team we have here in pressers twice/year is so much more candid and interesting.
  15. Nah that makes too much sense. It's best to pass on good football players in the draft who may not fit your almighty system and instead pick crappy players who supposedly do. See 2006!
  16. OK Rich Eisen, we get it. Bills-Jags preseason OT isn't the most exciting thing in the world. It's not really funny the 18th time.
  17. Great thread. Just look at how Ryan's expert coaching made Vernon Gholston into a superstar.
  18. Actually a lot of those teams sort of did get good overnight to the extent of having remarkable single season turnarounds. But more importantly the foundation for a good team that you say is here is not here. Ask anyone to name our best 5-6 core players and the first name out of anyone's mouth is a guy who has yet to play a down yet in the league. That's not a knock on Dareus who I'm as optimistic about as the next guy; but what does that say about the rest of the roster?
  19. Maybe because the Bills didn't actually sign him?
  20. Nonsense. Every year we have a legion of "Where are all the people who said ____" homer posts after a sample size of one game appears to prove them right. As an example, the "we don't need Pat Williams" army was out in full force gleefully starting threads and yelling to anyone who would listen how smart they were after the '05 opening win vs. Houston. Of course we know how that turned out. But yah, they're all team guys and not about patting themselves on the back.
  21. Yah, big shock that the Big Cat approved of the pick... Indeed. And this is a point Mike Schope - everyone's favorite whipping boy has pointed out. For as much as fans are prone to hyperbole, it is totally 100% accurate that the franchise would be better off today had the average know-nothing armchair fan been functioning as GM for the last ten years. Ralph is so concerned about $, yet think about how much he's wasted on his front office (salary, flights, paid hotels/meals/expenses) when Joe in South Buffalo could've just used Kiper's board and made better picks. Maybe he wouldn't have drafted Kyle Williams and maybe he still would've drafted Mike Williams, but this is one among many many awful moves that would not have happened. It's a joke.
  22. Getting a late 4th round pick for one of our only good players is a huge step in the right direction. Now hopefully we can score an early 4th rounder for our other good player! (Kyle Williams)
  23. Sunday night is the new Monday night. Welcome to 2008 and beyond.
  24. I would say more good news since we already knew what the OL & TE's can't do.
  25. [ ] Knows what irony means. [x] Good at quoting two words from long paragraphs.
