  1. I am a ten-year veteran lurker, first time poster. Not sure why this topic compelled me to join the forum except that I haven't seen the idea posted anywhere else...

The fans are concerned about our depth at tight end working out for Greg Roman's offense. We don't want to keep a middling tight end at the expense of a very good wideout like Hogan or Goodwin. What if we only keep three tight ends on the roster. Then in the game, when it's time for Roman to call a power running play that would typically use three TE/FBs instead just keep two TE/FBs on the field, and motion Sammy inside as the third blocker. Remember when Sammy blew up his opponent in blocking drills? I'm guessing that wasn't a unique occurrence. This leaves Clay, Felton and Sammy on the field together, allows for pass plays out of the same formation. Maybe as elite an athlete as Sammy is, he is just as good a blocker as Marqueis Gray or Chris Gragg

In a similar vein, don't be surprised if Corey Graham plays all summer at safety to learn the position and then when the announcers begin to call the Colts game, you hear them say "Rex opting for the veteran at cornerback. The Buffalo native in his ninth NFL season, Corey Graham, matches up outside with Andre Johnson."

In that scenario who do we play at safety?

  2. I feel bad for Fred I love everything the Bills have done this off season except cut Fred. You can not replace his heart and his will to win. Guys like Bryce Brown are a dime a dozen you can get

them anytime in the rounds 3 thru 6 in next years draft. Or if your scouting is good like the Bills is maybe as a undrafted college free agent. This release of Jackson is a mistake

no it won't cost the Bills wins or ruin the team but it takes away that special feeling the team had going on this summer. This team is poised to do something great this year and Fred Jackson is there leader

you don't go into battle without your true leader. I know Fred would not have played a lot this year but for me his role would have been an important one of leadership and captain of this football

team. For the life of me I can't understand how Rex and Doug don't understand this. Did you here what Fred said after he was cut he would have given anything to retire a Buffalo Bill.

That means he would have taken a pay cut, maybe played special teams he would have done what ever it took. Here is a guy who led are team last year in rushing and receiving last year.

He is are emotional leader and are community leader and the person who sets the right example of what a athlete should be. How is it the best team in football the last 3 years Seattle can see that and we can't.

Yes I agree at this point in time Bryce Brown might be better at running the ball and faster. But Fred is better at Blocking and getting the extra yard and leading our team and our town and city and this region.

It would be like the Yankees cutting Derrick Jeter. Yes his Skills have diminished and there might be a better younger player in the minors. SO the Bills should have gone to Fred and said that this is your last year

with us make it a good one we want you to do out on top and play in a Bills Playoff game. Then have Fred announce it. I don't know why The Bills management and Terry and Kim Pegula can't understand this.

How can the Bills look them selves in the mirror and think this is ok. I for one was ashamed to be a Bills fan yesterday. I am sad for Fred I wish him well. My my 2nd favorite team is Seattle because I love Russell

Wilson and I wanted the Bills to Draft him. Having Marshawn helps too, now if Fred signs that will really be cool. Fred will protect Wilson on 3rd downs and spell Lynch and will also provide true leadership

to a Superbowl winning team looking to go to a 3rd straight Super Bowl. I hope if the Bills do not win the SuperBowl this year that the Seahawks do so Fred can go out a winner. Fred deserves to be respected.

This is something the Bills management failed to do when the released him yesterday. They tried to say the right things but I'm not buying it. Fred's release does not feel right. my eyes tell me that, my gut tells

me that, and my heart tells me that.

Will your heart and guts still tell you that if Jackson gets hurt again this year in Seattle? Then remember that if he was with the bills he is carrying a multi million dollar salary?

I am in the Fred Jackson fan club.....but the injuries are mounting quick to go along with the age.....why cant people see that?

  3.

Gee, who ever would have guessed?

Answer: Anyone who can put 2+2 together. Whaley's forum plants will keep screaming in his defense, and bashing Freddy, but those of you who are like me, and think objectively without an agenda, must have realized what I've been saying this whole time has been true. Don't be afraid to say it yourself. The blowback from Team Whaley should not discourage you from speaking your mind...especially when it is so patently obvious.

This team was not built exclusively by Whaley. Tyrod certainly was not a Whaley choice. Many of his personnel decisions, especially his biggest ones, have been made rogue and subsequently backfired. He overstepped badly with letting Freddy go from not only a team and talent perspective, but a PR persepctive. He'll deservedly take a huge hit for this from the media and fans.

For Whaley's sake, the Bills better have a banner season this year, without any controversies or bickering between him and Rex, or you can bank on the Pegulas shopping for a new GM next summer.

When you type that......are you able to keep yourself from laughing?

IMO.....Freddie is hurt....he was the face of this franchise just as much as any other player in recent years......beloved by fans.......regardless of this talk I still think he is a high character guy who reconile this and move on......

I was upset when I found out he was released

    I slept on it

The next morning I was still upset at the release.....but then I was reminded that EVEN WHEN WE PLATOONED FRED LAST YEAR....he still got hurt......I remembered a report that someone met Fred towards the end of the year and shook his hand and he looked like he was in so much pain.

People are looking at this as a choice between Bryce Brown and Freddie Jackson......its not....it is a choice between banking on whether Fred can stay healthy (and he is already hurt) and going with a young powerful fresh RB who showed well in training camp WHO ALSO PLAYS SPECIAL TEAMS

We dont even know if Bryce Brown makes the team.

I dont want to remember Fred like this.....Come on Fred

    -

  4. There is value in a guy sitting behind a vet and just learning the position without the pressure of performing perfectly out of the box. That should have been EJ's path. Gotta give the Ravens credit for making TT the player he's become.

There was a discussion on this over the offseason.......

    - Franchise QBs are so hard to find....

    - Unless you are an absolutely aweful team you dont get close to the most "talented" qbs in the draft

    - If a team has a QB in this group they NEVER let them get away

    - QBs that come into the league nowadays are simply not ready to be franchise QBs.....

So what do you do? How do you find one? Its not like there is a tree to go pick one off of.....you can have all the money in the world but you cant buy one if another NFL team wont let him get away

You do what the bills did.......they let Tyrod Taylor simmer on the Ravens stove as they slow cooked him......then when the time was right they picked him up.

Tyrod Taylor has been in the NFL staving off backup qb competiton on the ravens for FOUR YEARS......enough time to work on whatever deficiencies he had in college......enough time to let him go through 3 NFL training camps and preseason......3 seasons of running NFL scout teams......

    Basically....on the job training.

  5. How about this scenario?

-Tyrod tears an ACL week 1

    -EJ is shaky

It takes us one game to go from excitedly cutting the vet to realizing we just blew the playoff run over $4m we probably don't need.

I know it doesn't seem like it but I'm truly as high on Tyrod and EJ as the next guy- just don't understand the rush to remove the only known commodity at the most important position.

I hope u are somewhere out there knocking on some wood while u say this crap

  6. The rest of the world be surprised, however. Nobody would pay more than a 6th or 7th for E.J. Manuel. What team would give up a 1st ?

And in that scenario you keep him

What is a team that is stacked with this much talent going to do with a 6th or 7th round pick?

QBs are so hard to come by....qbs that can actually step on the field and not fall on their face. EJ appears to be in that company now.

  7. That's an awkward way to paint it. We expected EJ to be this good from the start, and honestly he was. Then he regressed and never recovered. EJ should have looked like this a season and a half ago. He should be slightly better or more then he is now but he hasn't had the reps and no one is certain they'd have mattered.

What I mean to say is....from the start of camp EJ looked like he was def in the 3rd position.....but looks to have improved quickly to where he might actually be in the 2nd position (and frankly if TT was playing lights out should start)

No joke, this is where we all remember he is still green.

Trust me, we're not going to want to replace Lawson after this season. He is going to have a Jerry Hughes type break out season this year. Book it, mail it in, and ask Santa for your Lawson jersey now. The guy was a first round draft pick, he is still young and he is primed for a superstar year.

I agree that Lawson appears to be a great scheme fit and hopefully we can keep him around. My LB that will make the biggest impact is Preston Brown

We are going to be surprised by our LB's this year and Lawson is going to be our best LB.

See above. Johnson won't fill those shoes.

We dont know that....Johnson might even be part of the last cuts (I hope not because he might turn into something)

  8. Do you wanna know something interesting I'm starting to realize about TBD? If you go to the last page of any thread, there are people arguing with and insulting one other. Seriously, try it. Like every thread.

I usually argue in the middle....by the time we have made it to the last page I realize I am arguing with my bills brother and ask god for forgiveness.....:)

  9. Russell Wilson has the highest passer rating of any QB in NFL history over his first three seasons. Kaepernick might have the strongest arm in the NFL. In terms of mobile QBs It is much more reasonable to compare Taylor to a smaller and somewhat less accurate Michael Vick.

    Why?

There is absolutely no basis to say he is less accurate then Vick.....none

  10. Do you understand football at all? Tyrod Taylor isn't the first running QB in the league and doesn't bring anything new to the field that that the league hasn't already seen. Defenses have game planned against guys like him before, sometimes the defense wins and sometimes the offense wins.

Max you cant blast someone for their take and then give a bland answer like that.......why did you bother to respond at all?

  11. Youre a little late to the party, did it take you all afternoon to type that in depth response?

I was firing from the hip so i dont know what you want me to say now? I posted my last post on him.

As far as your take, or response or whatever that is, its stupid, and so are you.

    Uncalled for Shake.....

  12.

100%. Cassel's value is being the steady presence off the bench. Not as the day in day out starter.

At the end of it......as long as Tyrod is starting this year.....I am ok with this

Matt Cassell is only on a 1 year contract. You keep EJ and continue to develop him.....you let EJ and TT duke it out in camp next year for the spot in a deathcage match.

Best one starts.....the backup is ready to go.
