  1. That's gonna be hard. I don't know how you're gonna get TBD as a whole to give up their unwavering support of EJ Manuel.

They dont need to.....they just need to support TT as he is a Buffalo Bill

for that matter.....Matt Cassell is ALSO a buffalo bill and he should get the fans support as well

  2. I am absolutely NOT going to digress into talking crap about Ralph WIlson....who through all his faults made sure that that Buffalo still has the bills.....

    God bless you Mr. Wilson

I will say......going forward that a big difference in ownership style is making sure the coaching improved by putting money in that direction.....and look forward to a return to prosperity.

  3. Your post makes zero sense. Zero. I didn't say anything about EJ Manuel. I said that W-L record is an overrated way to judge a QB's performance. I think Tyrod Taylor is going to have a better record this season than Matt Ryan, Cam Newton, Drew Brees, Philip Rivers and Eli Manning. That doesn't mean I think he's a better QB. I have no idea what you're talking about with respect to EJ.

I know that this whole QB thing has lingered all summer.......

    But honestly folks.....ITS TT TIME

  4. Going against the prevailing sentiment here, neither am I.

Not sure how E.J being the number three helps his development. Will running the scout team be enough to keep him on the upward path he took this year? That's a major question for me right now.

I'd much rather have E.J. suited up on game day and absorbing the live action, even if he's holding a clipboard. Sitting in the pressbox, removed from his teammates is not development, IMO...

    It worked for Tyrod Taylor

  5. I know of few on TSW or anywhere who are even arguing that EJ deserves the starting slot over TT and thus you are setting up a straw man in claiming there is some mistaken sense that EJ is Steve Young. I don't see anyone claiming TT Is Joe Montana and likewise it is simply foolish to argue that anyone mistakes EJ for Steve Young.

The simple truth is that EJ was drafted in the first as a project and remains so after an unfortunate injury ended his rookie year. Before he went down he did not set anyone's hair on fire as the next coming of John Elway, but the simple case is that he did show signs of being a .500 NFL QB.

No where near what we wanted, but actually well within the ballpark for an objective observer with even half a football mind.

So what explains the public indictment by some in the press and some loud voices on TSW that EJ quite obviously does not have what it takes to even be in the league?

It actually says a lot more about the lack of football knowledge and intellect of those offering up this view.

Some folks seem to want to hold EJ to a standard as being a franchise QB right out of the draft. He ain't. However, to claim he never will amount to anything because he is a ,500 QB right now is simply silly.

Cassel never showed the production to be a #1, and though EJ did throw the bad pass here and there he also through a great scoring bomb against the Panthers (probably the best pass by a QB fer or agin us this preserason) Had 2 scoring passes in crunch time to lead us to a W agin the Browns, and fully dererved his near perfect QB rating agin the Steelers and easily deserved the back-up role.

In short (sorry...past my bed time)

Tyrod Taylor is your starter......get behind him folks.

EJ Manuel has shown enough to hold the clipboard and continue to develop with a good feeling that if his name is called this year the team wont fall part.

I will say this.....some people here just seem to love a good qb contiversy.....what I would really hate to see is the "bench him he sucks" the first mistake TT makes. Bad plays are gonna happen.....get behind him and cheer for him.

  6. Turns out Gabe is very smart , might give Wood competition for C. Cut from Titans because they were deep at C position. Andy spoke well of Buffalo to him.

He also had the best 3 cone and short shuttle in the combine in the year he came out......very athletic for a offensive linemen

  7.

I saw all the games, even those not on NFL, so I know the play you are talking about. I thought the big clutch throws (and the drive at the end of the Brown's game) more that made up for 2-3 bad throws EJ made. I think the coaches did TT a disservice by not letting him take some shots into the end zone in that first game. In the end, though, it didn't hurt him.

And both TT and EJ look very calm and composed, IMO.

Once again....I really feel that bringing up EJ's bad throws in pre season is extreme nitpicking.....in any other year when deciding on a QB I would have totally dismissed them and defensed EJ because they are SO few.

To me its about who played better and who should start between two QBs that showed extremely well (I find the remarks from people who attempt to dismiss the QBs so funny....EVERY QB played better then anything we have had in the past)

What I also try to look at is what the coaches might want from their starter......I thought TT was more effecient. I did not see one uncatchable ball from him.....his 3rd down efficiency was off the charts.......I did not see one uncatchable ball......

Also.....less penalties with TT on the field

  8. The problem with being as solid as they were last year (if you want to call top 5 solid) is that if you dont maintain the exact same statistics it got worse......

This is what I expect from this defense

    - Our run D is going to be more solid then people expect.....because people look at Pettine's D and how horrible it was against the run. While Pettine was Rex protoge.......Rex Ryan run D's have been historically good.

    - I anticipate exotic blitz much more then Schwartz.....which will create two things......more big plays against.....and more turnovers created by our D....will those things balance out? I am not sure.

When the smoke clears I anticipate us being overall where we were last year......but I ALSO expect things to not fall part in games like they did the Raiders game if we lose a player. THAT was the weakness in the Schwartz defense.

  9. Cassel had value as an experienced QB who knew life in the NFL from both the role of starter and backup. That knowledge would have helped TT and EJ in their respective roles. Plus, as an emergency QB he would be better than most.

This was a move to give EJ the undisputed backup opportunity by someone in management (whom I won't name) who didn't want to take any chances Rex may choose Meh over EJ as the #2.

Will you stop with the friggen conspiracy theories....jesus

Both played quite well but the difference to me was that EJ got the yips and made "left handed" throws on several third downs.

One of those was in a series that was NOT shown on the NFL replay version of the first game so A LOT of people here did not see it.

Manuel rolled out of the pocket to his left and had an uncovered O'Leary right in front of him.....about 15 yards downfield......and he threw just about the worst pass I've ever seen and only got the ball half way there.

    Drive killed.

Taylor didn't complete his few long passes but they were all catchable.

Love the improvements EJ made but to me TT was the clear winner.

I agree with this and saw it the same way......

That pass to O'leary was horrible......BUT he has thrown much fewer of those then in the past.....enough of them that if TT had not come out and shown better I would have had no problem going into the season with EJ at the helm

    but

The fact is....TT has an arm.....he appears more accurate.....he has a calmness to him that I actually find really impressive.....

  10.

Indeed. I kind of think EJ played the best in preseason, but can see the additional something TT brings to the table. They both had sensational preseason performances, though. (I know TT always looks very good in preseason, and EJ does at times as well.)

But I don't really see a divided fan base, this year (with the exception of some message board outliers). Most seem to be solidly behind TT as the starter--even those who might have preferred EJ. As far as I can tell, the fan base is more united and behind the QB situation at OBD than it has been in 10 years or so. Now, let's see what happens when the games start counting. ut b

IMO...and it is just IMO I dont think EJ has played the best in pre season.......I think TT has

EJ has scored more TDs.....he has had the bigger throws and plays....but TT has been more efficient.....he hasnt fumbled.....the team hasnt taken bad penalties with him on the field. Because a QB is more then just about big plays and is also about being the field general I take all that into consideration.

This is not to say that EJ has not played well....he most certainly has but I dont buy into this "TT is 1 and EJ is 1a" crap.....TT won the job....period.

  11.

First of all, thanks to the CBA are no longer LOTS of practices...LOL You should know that. Secondly, in practice, QBs are not allowed to be hit so I could see why a statue like Cassel would show much greater there than he would in games where he can potentially be hit hard.

By training camp practice #11, EJ Manuel was being written off by a larger and larger number group of people in both the local media and fans alike. That's after only 22 hours of "real time" work learning a brand freakin new NFL offense for a young QB like Manuel who was taught by a rank amateur for his first two years! In the end, all of these people were proven wrong. You have to have some sense of perspective on the actual situation.

I just don't understand the continued EJ hate when it's crystal clear that he has made a dramatic improvement in his play later on in training camp under the new coaching staff and he will no doubt be challenging Taylor for the starting job until either Taylor or Manuel win the job on the field.

The job on the field has been won.....TT won it
