1. I'm no Titans fan but did anyone else think they got the shaft several times? A reversal of an obvious Tenn interception in the end zone was ridiculous. At least two obvious downfield pass interference penalties should have been called on GB but the refs kept the flags in their pockets. It seemed like they did everything they could to keep GB in the game. in the end Tenn racked up 12 penalties for over 100 yds and GB had 3 for 15. NFL officiating is horribly inconsistent. it was justice that Tenn won the game and proof for Bills fans that good teams can overcome penalties and "non calls".

  2. get's the #1 overall pick next year.  :I starred in Brokeback Mountain:

If they do, TD will certainly be fired. That scenario would be one of the biggest embarrassments in Buffalo Bills history....maybe even NFL draft history. Unless JP turns out to be Jim Kelly reincarnated, that will get a GM fired.

  3. I have to thank Petrino for starting this defense and it's A-1 season non-sense.

We let Jax go the distance on us at home in week one with the game on the line.  That is a Grade A-1 CHOKE.  Jacksonville is a horrible offensive team.  That's the main reason it's classified as a choke.  Smash mouth, defense oriented team.  We had JAX right were we wanted them.  WIth our A-1 defense between them, 80 yards away from a score.  And they scored.  (Cough cough)

Oakland - A bad team also.  Also struggles on offense.  And while I think we did OK on the road, there's still the blunder of what was it???  Third and 30 and they scored?  Oakland has some of the worst QB'ing in the league.  (COUGH COUGH)

NE - Ummmmm, they lit us up like a Chrimmus tree.

And now the Jets.  LOL.  Pennington completes 31 of 42 for christs sakes.  That's over 70%.  The Jets score 16 points, miss a FG, and Pennington makes a horrible throw to bail out the Bills when he hit Posey at the 25 with what was a terrible decision to throw that pass.  Also, how about the play when a streaking WR lost the ball because he didn't cover it up (Priouleau punched it out) and that gave the ball back to us also.  Ummmmm, they also had the ball for 34 minutes, and accumed about 400 yards of offense despite making numerous mistakes.  See, why Jets fans think they easily could have scored 30 plus points?

    Ummmmmm, let's grade it now.....

Choked, Played slightly above average, Torched, and Torched!  They only things we can hang our hat on is run defense up the gut, and we are getting some turnovers.

Season Grade C-  Not saying the offense is any better, but this defense is no where near worth its money!

Just a quick edit, it was Clements that punched the ball out not PP. PP did recover it though.

Otherwise I agree with your post. This D is not very good if they let other teams score in crunch time and give up a ridiculous number of crucial 3rd down conversions.

  4. I love this blurb in the article. I wish I could go back an extract all my posts from last winter when I was begging the Bills to do anything to draft this guy.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Roethlisberger is 6-foot-5 and 241 pounds and has a strong arm. Yet when you talk about his game, the element that jumps out at you first is his mobility. He does a remarkable job of buying time, then finding open receivers who are mindful of their quarterback's ability to move."

  5. Misery is all over the NFL. not just Buffalo and Miami.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"This was a cursed team choking on its past, tripping on its shadow, gagging on the gourmet taste of good fortune.

This was a game that should have come with offensive content warnings and barf bags for everyone."

  6. This is what i've been saying for the past, oh, 28 games.

Yes yes, Drew is a good QB when he has no one in his face.

The problem is, even a line full of all-pros is going to let some people in his face from time to time.

DREW CANNOT MAKE SOMETHING OUT OF NOTHING.

DREW DOES STUPID THINGS WITH THE BALL WHEN UNDER PRESSURE.

If you're going to win at this level, your QB had better be able to at least shuffle and buy himself a second or two, a la Pennington and Brady, to use two familiar examples.

Drew's sack with 50 seconds on the clock is a perfect example of this. With Brady or Pennington back there, we win that game with a FG. The one thing you DON"T DO is take a sack in that situation. But Drew's pocket presence, which used to be excellent years ago, is just not there.

Drew Bledsoe is a liability because he's easy to defend, has proven over two years that he cannot beat the things that teams try to do to him, and he simply does not see the field the way a QB should.

Watch the tape. Count how many times you see Drew look at just TWO different receivers before he pulls the trigger. You'll be amazed at how few times he does this. He tells the defense where the ball is going every time. Is it any wonder we have such poor YAC? is it any wonder that it seems we can't make a play?

The defense KNOWS where Drew's going while he's dropping back! And they slide that way...it's simple, folks.

Don't think that Drew "had that game won" because he finally made a couple plays. For 3.5 quarters, it was the same old DB that we've seen for 2 seasons.

    65191

For the first time in about two years, I agree with those that said yesterday's game was Ok for Drew. The line really did screw up big on a couple of those sacks. And ya'll laugh at me when I compare a sack to a turnover. Well it is! it's really more like a punt since it usually ends a precious drive. That being said, You can't take bad sacks in this league and win, period and better than 50% of the time it's on Drew. I agree that the bottom line on Drew is that he can't ever buy himself that extra second or two OR make a play out of nothing. I'm tired of seeing him turtle up and curl everytime the pressure gets in there. Other QB's at least have escapability. Three times yesterday (that I noticed), Drew could have stepped up in the pocket,,,just two friggin' steps...and he would have avoided the negative play or sack and possibly made a play down field. But NO, he is absolutely cemented in back there and his linemen no matter what they say in public must shaking their heads at his immobility.

Time for a change folks. enough is enough.

  7. I see some posts suggesting TD will be fired and then MM will have to follow. That's not the case. MM cannot be judged seriously until he has a chance to work with his own guys and matriculate them into the offense especially. He's going to make some rookie coach blunders, they all do. Remember the Jags last year? They started out a joke. Del Rio had them off to an 0-4 start losing some tough games, then they progressed to 1-7 and were 2-9. The fans down there were screaming for his head. He stuck Leftwich in there as a rookie and took some lumps for it but it's paying off now for them. Mularkey, Wyche and Clements are all really good, knowledgable coaches. I think publicly they have to "stay the course" but behind closed doors they know what this team needs in order to get better and more explosive. MM made a comment in the offseason about Losman and how a QB that can buy time in the pocket is hugely important in today's NFL. He was used to working with a dymamic player like Kordell. Anyway, QB is not the only position the Bills need to shore up, that's obvious.....but I think MM and his staff will get this thing right. NO need to run him out of town. He didn't pick most of these players.

  8. I dreamed last year of the Bills getting Big Ben. I was praying for it on draft day. Now he's becoming even better than I imagined (if thats possible). I sure hope JP rises up and becomes the QB we think he can be. I also watched alot of the Steelers game and the big guy moves very well and throws a great ball on the run. It's no surprise. He did the same stuff in college and killed everyone he played.

  9. Just happened to run across the article from last year's Houston game and saw this interesting quote regarding the Bills lack of offense:

"It's hard for me to believe," Bills president Tom Donahoe said. "It shouldn't be happening. But it's where we are. We have to come up with some answers. Right now we don't seem to have any answers."

Has anything changed at all since then? The only hopes of doing anything is to use Evans, McGahee and Losman (when he's healthy) since the status quo is a proven disaster. Bledsoe as much as I like the guy is not going to suddenly get "all the time in the world" to throw. Our O-line is suddenly not going to become so much better.

    Ah, i'm hurtin'.

  10. Did you see the Fins play yesterday?  Absolutely horrible offense.

Not that the Bills are much better...really, I expect the game to be about as entertaining as being skinned by a carrot peeler for three hours.  What's the early over-under on it?  Three?

    64849

UM, well that horrible Miami offense still threw for 228 yards and racked up 300 against NE....meanwhile the Miami D held NE to 200 yds total offense. No one better put this game in the W column. Miami's D should be able to feast on Bledsoe meat all day and running the ball will result in time of possession for Buffalo but Zero points. We've seen that story. I can see Miami beating the Bills something like 13-3. ugh!

  11. "I can sum it up very easily. I'm disappointed the team doesn't show more spark, offensively particularly. We don't show any spark."

That quote is directly damning of Drew Bledsoe. I'm sorry, but your QB is the leader on the field and this offense has adopted his demeanor (slow, methodical, boring, no spark, passive, etc..). I hate to see good coaches like Mularkey, Clements, Wyche....get dragged through this mess. They need to replace him since we have no chance of replacing the whole O-line.

  12. I posted this on another board but I'd like to get your take as well......

I've been saying this since the summer. I'll repeat for those that don't ever read my posts. The Bills cannot win games smashmouth style for several reasons.

    1) 10, 12 or 14 play drives leave too much room for mistakes. They might work once a game. Every dropped pass, sack, incompletion, tipped ball, run for no gain, penalty, etc,,, ends the drive.

The Bills do not have a precision style of offense to be effective at long drives. You need a very good offensive line and you need to be excellent at converting your 3rd-down plays. In a long drive, you see many 3rd-downs. A guy like Chad Pennington is great at executing long drives because he is very good at rolling away from the pressure and hitting the short stuff to keep drives alive. I'm sorry , but Drew isn't. 7 step drop and bang, he's done.

    2) Our offensive line on the road gets dominated. Yes, we had two good drives at the end yesterday when the Jets may have eased up a little, but overall, you can't smashmouth teams in their house with our Line.

    3) Did I mention that Drew is not very adept at the short, precision style passing game? you need to be an elusive and crafty QB to consistently execute long scoring drives.

    4) The Bills take too many penalties to complete long drives. Something always goes wrong.

In my opinion, the Buffalo Bills need to return to being a medium to long ball type of team and mix in a few runs. They should just work on Max protection for Drew and take shots down the field. You are bound to get a few pass interference penalties as well. They must steer away from the long time consuming drives and work on quick hit scoring. It's the only way this team will be able to put up points.
