  1. Well, the reason I put a "may" in there is because I am uncertain, but I would guess that it's still right near the top with enrollment, and I believe that it's still got the biggest & most prominent research grants.

I think if you want to make a case for anyone for SUNY flagship, it's UB vs. Stony Brook. Both are Association of American Universities (AAU). That's really the cream of the crop as far as prestige for universities (research $$, doctorates awarded, graduate studies, professional schools, etc..). UB and Stony Brook are 2 of the only public universities that are AAU members and NOT part of the BCS football landscape.

UB is the largest enrollment of all the University centers and the UB endowment dwarfs anyone else in SUNY. I'd say give the NYSU flag to Buffalo!

  2. As a UB alum and a big fan of the teams I hope it happens. New York State Univ. just sounds a lot more prestigious. Plus everyone knows where the big State U's are located. You don't NEED the word Buffalo to be present. We all know Ohio State is in Columbus, Penn State is in State College, etc...

I just don't see how the SUNY beaurocrats downstate, fellow SUNY schools and non-sports caring faculty will allow this to happen. Sounds like a pipe dream really. I would like to see it though.. Maybe enough money talks and makes this happen.

  3. Agreed. Taking a QB at 8 this year is a somewhat wasted #8 pick. Pick a QB at 8 and he needs to be able to start week 1. None of these guys can do that without getting killed and all also have highly uncertain upsides, all of them. Let's take that risk in the 2nd round, not the 1st.. right?

We would all love to wait until round 2 to get our guy...but the QB's are notoriously snatched up earlier than later. Wilson and Kaepernick dropped for unknown reasons. I suspect teams will be more aggressive in reaching for a QB early even if he is pegged as a round 2 or later prospect.

  4. Anyone who have ever lived in Cleveland or Cincinnati knows that waterfront football stadiums are overrated. Take Cincinnati, for example, the area immediately around it is empty. A couple hundred yards away is the baseball stadium though, which has attracted a good amount of commerce. The football stadium almost looks lonely. That said, Buffalo seems unable to come up with any other good uses for waterfront property, so why not, I guess.

Yes, large outdoor football stadiums on waterfront property in cold weather cities are going to stand lonely and empty for large chunks of time. The technology is here now. A retractable roof stadium is the way to go. Buffalo would be stupid to build an open air stadium on the waterfront. Just go for it, build the retractable roof and act big time for once. Be able to host a multitude of events throughout the year, during cold or warm weather. I'll even chip in a few bucks :)

  5. Hope they build a retractable roof in downtown Buffalo near the waterfront. That would be ideal. I'm not a big fan of Niagara Falls, NY. It's still a dump over there. Having the stadium downtown would be so beneficial for Buffalo for a million reasons. I think the outdoor weather advantage is so overplayed nowadays. The Bills haven't won much in weather in 14 years. Guess what, better talent wins and always will. I also think an indoor stadium in winter will curb the fighting and machismo in the stadium.. People are better behaved indoors. They just are. Go to any domed stadium and check it out. It's better for families. You don't see many fights in First Niagara center either.

  6. I'd be Po'd if this game were in Orchard Park.. I plan on taking my young son to his first Bills game this season and we picked the Ravens game to come up for. Can't do it if it's on a Thurs night during the 2nd school week.

Typically the NFL tries to put a really attractive game out there... (Giants/Cowboys - bitter division rivals, Saints/Packers- both NFC title contenders). I just don't think the Bills provide the marquee level opponent the NFL is looking for. I can see them picking a divisional game vs. Pitt or Cinci if they can't do Denver.

  7. Well Kaepernick and Wilson's performances ensure that no QB with a "2nd tier" label is going to slip too far down the draft. Any QB worth a damn will be picked in rounds 1 or 2.

In my opinion, Mallett could be starting somewhere right now. I liked him alot coming out of college. I bet he isn't loving the way his career is starting out....especially seeing these other young QBs getting starts all over the league.

  8. Its completely ridiculous how many people are so sure there are no "franchise" or starting quarterbacks in this draft just because there's no Luck, RG3 or Cam. No one thought Kaepernick or Russell Wilson were going to be and look how they turned out. You put a guy in the right system and the right environment to succeed and you hope for the best. That's all we can do in our situation unless you think we should wait to go 2-14 and draft one in the first couple picks but as far as I can tell there probably won't be any sure fire studs next year either.

We have to take a QB somewhere in the first two rounds and see what Marrone can do with him. I'm not saying he's Jim Harbaugh or anything but that is the main reason the 49ers went from 6-10 to the Super Bowl two years later.

Personally I hope its either Barkley or Geno but if Marrone wants to go with Nassib or whoever else he likes I'd be totally behind that too.

For every Kaepernick and Russell Wilson, there are double the number of Gabbert, Locker, Tannehill and Ponder types... That's what we're dealing with this year. Cam, RG3 and Luck were absolutely "bust proof" and we can't compare them to the 2013 group... but I agree, the Bills need to take a QB or two in this draft and roll the dice.

  9. If it comes down to Glennon or nASSib . I~ll take Glennon in a heartbeat over the slower ,shorter, weaker arm DOME QB

Me too. I like the guy that can throw frozen ropes down the field. Nassib did perform for Marrone and they threw a ton of short passes and screens. If that's the offense Marrone is bringing to BLo then i can see them grabbing Nassib as their guy.

  10. As I said if we want one of the top 2 QB's in this class, we are going to have to trade UP. You guys listen to the media talking heads, NFL teams don't.

Totally agree. Everyone knows it's a QB driven league. If teams drafted Locker, Gabbert and Ponder so high...it baffles me why the talking heads in media assume the 2013 class will drift out of the top 10. Please. Geno and Barkley will be drafted before #8. I suspect the Bills will be able to get Nassib, Glennon and Wilson at #8 if they so choose. IF they don't draft a QB at #8 they will risk not getting one at all.

  11. My first impression (as things stand today), is that the Sabres are unlikely to finish higher than 6th in their division for the forseeable future. Overall it makes sense though. The 2 Florida teams have to be thrilled, as do Detroit, Columbus and Winnipeg. The FLA teams will get very good home crowds from all the US and Canadian snowbirds supporting their hometown teams down there.

  12. The contrarian in me used to argue that Andrew Luck would have never lived up to the hype.

Well, looks like the kill will be pretty good.

    I was wrong. Carry on.

OK, interesting statement to make in mid-March....but yeah, the kid lived up to the hype and the Colts are set for another decade.
