Back in the mid 80's we bought our first house from a friend of the family. It had been his grandmothers home. Mrs. Murphy was the previous owner and a beloved matriarch of the family. Our friends aunts had met us to show the house, we looked it over and the price was right, so we decided to buy it it. The aunts were wonderful and when we were chatting while standing outside, one of them looked at the house with a smile and said "Mom likes that you are here and is happy to have you".
After moving in we spent about 3 weeks deciding what kind of renovations we wanted to do and started knocking down walls and tearing out everything. One discovery was a mattress we found in the attic, as well as a nightgown. We joked about it and said "Ooops, we found Mrs. Murphy's bedroom". My sister in law was there and she kind of paused and said, lets wash the nightgown and put it back with the mattress in a nice neat box (she was superstitious). We did it and put everything away in the attic which is not accessible.
After renovations things were fine, no ghosts or anything. We had our first son within the first year, and I remember dreaming one night that an older woman was taking care of our son, it was a comforting dream, not scary at all. At times, he would wake in the middle of the night, and before we could get to him, he would quiet down, as if being soothed or quieted by someone. After our second son was born, we had outgrown the house and bought a new one and kept Mrs. Murphy's house as a rental. This is when some of the strange things started happening. One tenant said she would constantly hear footsteps up and down the stairs, like someone was looking for something or someone, but no actual sightings , a dish may end up being put away, or door that was previously open is now closed or anything but nothing spooky.
A more recent set of tenants apparently connected with Mrs. Murphy and these were a bit unsettling. Two girls (mid 20's) were renting. They were "active" and sometimes may have had parties and people over that Mrs. Murphy would not have approved. One day, the girls were on the deck outside, they heard a crash and came in to find a framed photo of one of the girls and her most recent BF tossed across the room, 20 feet from its original place on the shelf. Also from the same shelf, a heavy speaker belonging to the BF had been tossed halfway across the room. Several other items on the same shelf were undisturbed.
Another event that they described was a pretty late party/hangout with friends that went late. Both girls went to bed after partying and left the kitchen a mess. In the middle of the night, the girl in the downstairs bedroom heard the water running and the dishes clanking and thought "Oh, Judy is up there cleaning up and I feel guilty". At the same time Judy hears the same thing, and thinks "Oh *****, I left that mess for Tara, I will hear about it in the morning". The next morning the girls woke up and found the dishes cleaned up, in the drying rack were all the dishes, clean and dried. On the edge of the sink, the towel was neatly folded (these girls were not clean freaks) and the room looked great. The counters were wiped down and neatened up, dishes done, everything in its place. Both girls recounted hearing the same noises, at the same time and admitted that they felt guilty allowing the other to do the work. Neither one was "sleepwalking/cleaning" since they both recall the same sounds and time of the night/morning. They have other stories they told, but those stand out.
Now my daughter and her fiancé live in the house, and other than the dog acting weirded out in the middle of the night, they haven't really had any good stories so far.

His lawyer is up there in terms of bad people as well.
I don't hate lawyers, but I just wonder how some lawyers can actually review a case and after getting the story, actually say "Yup, I can defend this guy, and make a nice payday doing it". How do they look their wife, kids neighbors in the eye at the end of the day? I understand everyone is entitled to a fair trial, and a proper defense is part of that, but I wonder how many attorneys looked over the case and decided to pass based on what was alleged.

So sorry for your loss. It's never easy having to let go of a true friend like a faithful dog. I have never had a dog that stole my beer, smacked up my car, lied to me, stole money from me or cheat on me. We lost our last one 3 years ago, and I still can't bring myself to get another one. The pain has receded, but the memories will still be with you, but it was definitely worth it.

When my daughter was at U of South Carolina she needed one. We ended up with a Italiajet T50, nice little ride, made by Vespa. I still have it since she moved back to NY and wouldn't be caught dead on it. Cheap on gas, it was a 2 stroke, so no need for oil changes. Everyone at the school had the cheap chinese ones they would lease for the year. Not bad, but they were basically a disposable moped. As someone said earlier, buy the better names (Honda,Yamaha, Vespa) and stay away from the chinese crap.
Just my 2 cents

Someone posted an anecdote that watching Josh Allen is like having a golden retriever puppy. He may pee on the carpet once in a while, but his good qualities outweigh the bad and you just can'r stay made at him.

This is what I posted here on TBD the following morning, I still can't believe it is 19 years from that day.
I almost feel ashamed looking at this board, since football is far from my
mind right now, but my home page is TBD...
When I was on my way to work yesterday, I was on the #1 express from Penn
down to WTC, at 14th a couple got on and said they saw a plane hit the trade
center, I figured it was a light plane, and continued on. There was an
announcement by the conductor that said "Due to a fire at WTC there will be
no service to Cortland ave (in the wtc), I got out at chambers street and
started walking..as I turned around to face the north tower I saw people
just staring up in awe..there was a hole in the tower with smoke and flames,
I asked some guy what happened and he said, he saw the plane go in.. and
then he said 15 minutes later the other tower exploded.. (we were on the
north side so he didn't see the 2nd plane , only the impact)
I tried my cell phone (no good) so I tried to find a pay phone , I thought
of my wife wondering if I was in there, and just the worry that the rest of
the family would have when they heard..I was able to get through to her
voice mail, and then I called our office on 36th st ( I am a consultant
assigned to 4 WTC since last September). The office wanted me to try to
locate another employee, and we started using my cell phone with the two way
radio feature.
I started looping around to the east of the buildings, trying to find my
co-worker, as I walked near the post office, I saw debris and broken
concrete, small puddles of blood, shoes ,lots of shoes and I picked up a
warm hunk of metal ( I have no idea why) it was almost hot and it was heavy
and it was oily or greasy... I dropped it when I saw a wheel or turbine that
was 20 feet away, high density aluminum about 6 feet wide....
Using my radio to my boss, I kept chatter back and forth and kept moving
towards where I figured Marcia would be (we went through the bombing in 93
and had always said, head for the water by the Seaport).
Police were busy on Church so I moved to Broadway by J&R Music and continued
the radio chatter with my boss, he said Marcia had not checked in yet, keep
looking, he also told me he saw video of the 2nd plane as it went in, he
said it had been hijacked as well as the first one, he also told be about
the Pentagon being hit.
I had worked my way to Nassau street, a pedestrian mall about 3 blocks east
of the towers. My radio was quirky, sometimes the frequency was jammed,
sometimes you could get through, so I told my boss I was going to keep it on
once I get a signal. As I was walking up Nassau I left the center of the
street and stayed along the storefronts, I was talking to Doug and he heard
me say "Oh @#$%^! something's happening, oh my God something went off", and
he could hear the rumbling as the first tower went down, I felt a shock wave
and wind rush as I ducked into a doorway (from the narrow street you could
not see the tower) I knew that one of them had fallen and I assumed it had
toppled over like a domino, not the gentle slide that I saw later.
The dust and debris cloud came next as I peered out of the doorway the cloud
came east towards the Nassau area, I started sprinting north and got one
block, as I looked over my left shoulder I saw a huge cloud of debris/dust
coming our way, as we ran I saw a woman fall, someone slowed down to help
and they were trampled ( I know I should have stopped, but I was thinking
about wife, kids etc, and she went down pretty hard) As I rounded the corner
near Beekman Hospital emergency personnel were waving us away I zigged
through the waiting stretchers, and headed to the Seaport, I slowed down to
catch my breath....
The smoke/debris cloud was covering us with something that was making me
choke and burning my eyes, it looked like snow... I started towards the
Brooklyn Bridge, but I was afraid that if the other tower went it may drop
towards us, so I started to go towards Chinatown. As I was walking I
remembered my radio.. the (last transmission I sent was Oh my God and the
rumbling in the background) when I finally got through my boss was excited,
he thought I was a goner.
A woman stopped be and asked to borrow the phone, I told her there were no
calls in or out, she then started wandering back towards the site and I
stopped her and asked what she was doing, "I have to get my pocketbook" I
said that would not be a great idea, and I asked her where she lives, we
were going the same way and started walking together, we saw a cab (empty)
so we got in and the driver said "I'm only going north" (well hello....that
was an understatement, who the hell wants to go back there!!!)
In the cab, Doug (boss) confirmed that the tower had fallen, we looked back
and saw the new skyline with just one tower standing up. A short time later
Doug asked where we were, I told him in a cab, and he told us the second
tower just went down, we looked out the back window of the cab as the debris
and smoke filled the air in the distance.
We were up to the village, and I saw the Empire State building looming in
the distance.. I told the driver to stop and let me out, the girl (Valerie)
said why get out now??? I pointed to the building/target and said"what would
be the next landmark to get hit??
I got out and gave the girl some money for the cab , she insisted on paying
me back and made me give her my card ( amazing at a time like this the
etiquette thing still remains in some people).
I started west to avoid the Empire State Building and went around it to get
to our office located 2 blocks north of the ESB. I got upstairs and changed,
called the wife ( she heard my voice cracking on the messages and she cried
every time she heard news of my progress)
We watched the news as others straggled in (Marcia had gotten up there too).
Once they opened the Long Island Rail Road, I left and got on and headed
home..
I never figured out whose shoes those were..
I am home now, and I suggest the following:
Don't complain about doing your kids homework.
Say I love you whenever possible
Try to keep in touch with your loved ones,
Whatever you think is very important today, may seem like a pimple on the
ass of an elephant tomorrow.
God Bless us all

So sorry for your loss Donuts, Well written tribute to a good friend. As we are getting older, I guess we will all have to go through this. Yours is a wonderful tribute to a true brother. Say the cheer with gusto, then pour him a beer, and step back into your Bills fandom.

I have seasons and live in Toronto. If we return from any country, the government requires we quarantine for 14 days. Makes it hard to justify going to a bills game - especially with a family that relies on me to be out and about. Today the government extended this rule from mid July to August 31st. There’s speculation that the rule may get extended to the spring.
This makes it even less likely Canadians will be at games this year, what a downer.
I floated this possibility on the forums a few months back, and the consensus seemed to be I was over reacting. Unfortunately I may have been correct.
Hopefully we can get to games this year, even if it’s just the back half of the season.
This pretty much settles it for our Canadian fanbase

A couple times on the way to our cottages we stopped at Brimstone Brewing Company. And I used to date a girl whose family owned a place in Thunder Bay. Nice area. Still wished the old Ridgeway bar/restaurant on Rte 3 was stil open.
That place has changed ownership a few times but it still lives on (at least it was last summer). Food was decent the last few times we went in. A relatively new place in Ridgeway, Trackside or Trailside is a nice place for appetizers or dinner. Directly across from the Beer store. I am missing it already!

Closure extended to July 21st today.
This pretty much cancels our annual trip to the family cottage in Ridgeway ON. Will be the first time in 38 years I didn't spend at least one week up there. We are now looking anywhere from Maine to virginia along the coast, but also looking at lake areas like the finger lakes and Winnepesakee in NH as a possible place for a week. We are open to any ideas.

Day 4. I'm bored. Calling work to see if they need any help.
Get a job at the golf course, or better yet, shoot in the 80s consistently.

Very well done. A shame you had to step away, but understandable. Although you may drop the Seasons, you will always be a Bills fan. The birthday gift of tickets to a game is such an slam dunk if the kids are ever looking to get something special.

@mead107 is this you? Longest running April Fools joke. Bravo. Wait....no it’s @BringBackFergy isn’t it? Is this how you get me for not paying for those tickets? No no no it’s @Guffalo right? For calling AAA to get the keys out of my trunk? Ooooh I know who this is. It’s @CountryCletus for me telling you your beaver tastes like chicken?
Oooooh I’ve not had a secret admirer in a long time. This is so cute.
Not me, although based on the picture from this guy, it just might, I have spent the last 5 weeks working from home and clearing out the fridge.

Wow, that's almost criminal. It should map to your plate, I can't see how they can charge a late fee but you are within 60 days. Try to get a human on the phone.

Congrats!! Get in a few thousand rounds of gold for all those days you were driving in and seeing an awesome 72 degree, sunny day and you are heading to work rather than the golf course. I hope that I can pull that off someday. I just haven't figured out when is enough, enough? No pensions, just 401K and IRAs. I still am barely under 60, so I still have time to figure it out. Although after commuting to NYC for 38 years, I really want to stop the commute, maybe go into a semi retired state if that exists.

Now why is that name familiar? Probably many towns have one, but the name reverberates with me regarding WNY. Location? A web search found nothing for WNY.
Elmwood and Hinman just South of Kenmore Ave. It is now a pawn shop.

Our son lives in Bay area, Wife wants to go out for this one. A bit concerned about conflicts with Niner fans, especially with a night game. We have been looking at flights from NYC area, so far the flights look reasonable. What rates did you get for the group?

I watched that movie with my wife and daughter a few years ago, terrifying. Anyway, the next day, my wife and daughter travelled up to the family cottage in Ridgeway/Crystal beach area and I was flying up a few days later. The cottage is in the woods and surrounded by trees and owls can be heard in the woods. Anyway, when I arrived, they both looked like hell, they had no sleep for two nights, they were cursing me out for "making them watch the movie" . To this day my daughter rejects anything with an owl on it, and still rolls her eyes whenever I point out something cute with an owl.
