  1. Clements, you're right, and I'm coming from a non-Yanks fan's perspective. The thing is where the Yanks succeeded in the past was through shrewd FA moves and having the money to keep their young talent. They are running up short now because they haven't developed any of their own young pitching in years and are signing the big bats instead of role players like Brosius and O'Neill. Those guys had heart and were Yankees through and through. I'm still not convinced A-Rod does. I think the Sox followed a similar blueprint to the Yanks' championship years, though they won't be able to keep this team together entirely. The shocker for the Sox was in the execution, not that they got there.
  2. From what I've seen of it, the less he absorbs of this offense, the better! Just use your head, JP, and it'll be a big improvement.
  3. I didn't say they were fixed, I just said there was a possibility of it happening. And if you've never thought that after seeing some of the piss poor officiating in these games, I guess you're just less of a conspiracy theorist.
  4. I think the point may be that Drew is such a head case now that he IS the lesser talent. I'm not saying Drew can't have his moments, but what is more valuable to our team at this juncture? Losing a few games with JP or losing them with Drew? Witness Pittsburgh. Everyone thought their season was destined for the crapper with a rookie starter coming in for game 2. If you're not going to win, playing the guy "who gives you the best chance to win" is meaningless. Especially if you have an unknown element in Losman. JP may in fact be the best chance to win, if for no other reason than that opposing defenses don't have the book on him (kinda like Pennington when he first came in -- he wasn't spectacular but he was not what was expected).
  5. Let's hope Willis is our LT. In my opinion LT was worth the Vick trade. Time may prove me wrong but he is a very special back getting ignored in Charger hell.
  6. I admire your optimism but you've been saying this every week. Unless we run the ball 40 times and hit Evans on a few lucky strikes we ain't winning. A bet on the Bills, ever, is the worst idea I have ever heard. If there's a possibility of football games being fixed, it would be because of betting. I wish people would just stop doing it.
  7. You know, this is all Roger Clemens' fault. If he hadn't screwed up the all-star game then maybe St. Louis would have swept, because they are unbeatable at home...
  8. God, that stings. Did you really need to do that?
  9. I have to say, I can't understand the origin of this complaint when the right has control of the Senate, House, Presidency and the Supreme Court. It's been a pretty successful strategy though, for the right to claim it's losing the war when it holds all the cards.
  10. Just because you don't see that leadership doesn't mean it's not there. There are plenty of Muslims in this country, especially in campus groups, that are doing their best to challenge the stereotypes of their community, at the same time fending off hatred and ignorance and trying to come to terms with the fact that the way our country perceives Muslims puts a lot of their families in danger. I do not speak from their perspective but it must be terribly difficult to be a Muslim in the U.S. today. I for one would love to see a Muslim MLK type but who knows how many people are silenced by oppression, or how many are ignored by the media. To summate, the people whose actions are the most outrageous tend to get the most attention. How we change that is anyone's guess...
  11. I think we should question everything he reports, as we should question the entirety of the media. Drudge just has a proven history of taking a scoop and running with it and having it disproven. Is he right some of the time? Sure. So are monkeys and typewriters. "It was the best of times, it was the 'blurst' of times?"
  12. Not too long ago the public accepted/ignored some awful events. Does that make America bad? I never said that. Way to (again) put words in someone's mouth to strengthen your case. Also never accused you, or the general populace, "America," of anything. But if your objective is to blame an entire religion for the acts of a few, or to blame those who are held in check by fear of brutal action, then you should be prepared to face your country's own history of people being subjected to the exact same thing. But whatever... drone on with your "Blame America First!" and "America hater!" chants. Love is not blind. And my love of my country is not blind. My love knows no bounds, and it knows to understand and learn from this nation's past. You appear to have done neither.
  13. I understood that. I just noted that the thread quickly turned into a critique of a critique of a critique, as often seems to happen here. I guess it's the nature of a message board. Just in the context of Drudge I found it humorous.
  14. I'm with the ballgame too. Did any of you catch Saturday's Penn State game? They lost 6-4. In a football game. Remember them when you complain about how pitiful the Bills are.
  15. says he has a serious intestinal flu, but "expected to recover." Wonder what will come of it... Link
  16. Actually, the most obnoxious fans in all of sports are Miami Dolphins fans from Rochester.
  17. Don't ask me, ask the black community, see if they think it's all "blah blah blah." Our bloody past is all too conveniently ignored. Talk about revisionist history...
  18. Seriously? The Guardian is a little too right-wing for me. I don't believe a thing until I hear it from the mouth of Castro himself.
  19. "Facts suck" entering into a thread spawned by the Drudge report. Beautiful. Drudge is great; he kinda reminds me of that saying about the monkeys and the typewriter. But don't get me wrong, all the news he breaks is confirmed gospel.
  20. Hey, I'm a Blue Jays fan, I whine about EVERYONE else's payroll and ability to keep their own players, except for maybe the expos, royals & pirates. Nothing has worked in my favor since 1993. I'm saying if the Cards are good enough, they'll overcome any disadvantage short of outright cheating or officiating mistakes. If they're not, they won't. Besides, Cards are in the Top 10 salaries. It's not like they're not complicit.
  21. Man, enough whining about it. As someone said before under the previous system the Cards would still not have had homefield. And if the Cards are truly the best team then no handicap should hurt them. They did get to have an extra bat in the lineup in Boston, which should have been a plus for them, assuming their extra batter can hit better than a pitcher. If the Cards are meant to do it, they will. No more excuses.
  22. Flutie / Johnson is a pretty excellent example. Neither side is really that impressive. One makes things look better than they actually are and the other is not everything it should be.
  23. Mularkey doesn't suck but the jury is definitely still out on Donahoe. He has left Mularkey out to dry with a QB who is NOT suited for 95% of today's NFL, and a terrible situation to manage at RB. For his first year, Mularkey has not been given every opportunity to succeed. You are right that for now the future looks bright with Losman in the wings (though we paid a king's ransom for him), and McGahee does look to be a special back. Who knows, maybe we get something good for Travis -- I think conditional draft picks might be the best we get there. But that's four-five years of writeoffs to get there, which kinda does suck. The good thing is that Mularkey is getting real tests in his first year and kind of having his feet held to the fire more than necessary, which is to say it should only get easier for him. I'm confident he'll be good for this team in the long run.
  24. Both sides are seeing only what they want to in each other. It's the nature of what passes for political discourse in this country, especially in a tense election year -- witness the spectacle of "Crossfire." Everyone's guilty and complicit in this mess. I can't wait until March or whenever this thing is truly over so we can all just chill the !@#$ out.
  25. Isn't the planet of the apes actually just earth? Hate to ruin the movie for you...
