  1. I'm somewhat encouraged with our success in the passing game the past few weeks. My main concern, though, is I don't believe our offense is a good fit for a team playing in Buffalo. Today in a game that was very close throughout we came out and tossed the rock 51 times compared to 19 rush attempts. Some may argue the run wasn't working so we abandoned it, but I don't see it that way. The problem is our run formations are pitiful and it's rather obvious when we are going to run. We rarely run playaction, so when Fitz turns to hand the ball off all defenders are crashing the box to defend the run, so far it's been working. Also running out of the pistol offense WILL NOT work in the NFL, defenses are simply too fast. You have Fitzpatrick lined up 3 yards behind center, and then Freddy another 3 yards behind him. When Fitz turns to hand the ball off Freddy has little time to build up momentum toward the line of scrimmage on the handoff. If and when the time comes when this franchise is actually competing in November and December, you can't expect this type of offense to be successful in Buffalo winters. On the majority of our pass plays there is absolutely no threat of a run because Fitz is in a shotgun formation with an empty backfield. I think we need to do a better job of keeping the defense guessing run or pass, and when I'm able to call out run or pass with frequent ease from my couch, I sure as hell know the opposing defensive coordinator can do the same thing. 46 yards rushing in a game that was a 1 score contest for 60 minutes is inexcusable. There is a reason we are 0-8, and our defense deserves the majority of blame, but our lack of a running game is just as big of a problem. Chan's running schemes are not working and it kills us late in games.
  2. You mean the guy who dropped another 2 passes today, on his typical I'll wait and let the ball come to me instead of attacking the football and snatching it out of the air. Fitz's faith in Roscoe and Stevie and their production compared to Lee Evans is proof enough to me that Lee isn't worth half of what he's making on this team. Lee Evans And Chris Kelsay symbolize everything that is wrong with the Bills. Overpaying for mediocre (Lee Evans) or downright bad (Kelsay) football players.
  3. Yes, I admit I have no clue the extent of McGee's injury. I have no idea of how much pain he is in. With that said, it's my belief that McGee is soft. He's gotten nicked up a lot the past few seasons and he clearly can not play through or with pain. He's now practiced back to back weeks, last week limited and this week fully, and once again he won't be suiting up today. Missing McGee is a huge problem as it drives Florences playtime way up and he is terrible. When talking to the media on Wednesday you could tell McGee was bracing reporters on the fact that he probably won't play this week, without actually saying it. I said it when it was first reported that McGee got hurt and I'll say it again......it would not surprise me to see the team put him on IR. I know our secondary has been seen as a stength recently, but it's clear that it's becoming a weakness. McKelvin is okay, but not what you would have wanted out of a high 1st round pick. Brandon Flowers, who i liked more coming out, is becoming a shutdown corner in KC, and McKelvin is average at best. Florence is bad, really bad, IMO. McGee, can't stay healthy and is aging. Whitner is okay in run support and very below average in pass coverage. I'm not liking our situation at CB at all moving forward.
  4. I wouldn't want Locker with our second round pick at this point. If he's proven anything this year it's that he's not ready to play in the NFL next year. I don't want a project QB who can't compete in his first season with a high second round pick. I really hope the Bills brass weren't drooling over the chance of moving up into round one to nab Tebow, as was reported by Adam Schefter. If they were interested in Tebow they would surely consider Locker, IMO.
  5. I'm unimpressed with Akeem Ayers. After watching him a couple of times, I think he has poor instincts and he's a high tackler. I think Robert Quinn, on the other hand, looked like a beast last year. Having to sit out a year and the fact that he'd be a OLB in our defense and I don't see how Buddy can take him with a top 5 pick. I'm hoping the stars align and Luck declares and the Bills finish with the first pick. The way the Bills have been playing lately though it's tough to see us finishing worse than the Carolina Panthers. If we both finish with the same record, the Panthers will still beat us for top pick due to our strong SOS, so we must finsh a game below them.
  6. I've always thought Cutler was highly overrated. A lot like Marshawn Lynch in that he got hyped up after a year or 2 of okay play, nothing more. I remember when the Broncos were 8-4 and the Chargers were 4-8, and the Cutler led Broncos found a way to not make the playoffs. That 4 game losing streak included a home loss to a weak Bills team, where Cutler threw a terrible interception in the endzone. Ever since that game I've seen Cutler as a very average QB who will struggle to ever lead his team to the playoffs and never have a deep playoff run. An interesting point about Cutler that I'm surprised wasn't mentioned in the article is: Cutler has never had a winning season in highschool, college, or the pros.
  7. And if the Bills were 7-0 rather than 0-7 their opponents record would be 26-24, right around .500. My point.............when you suck and all of your opponents get easy wins vs. you your opponents for the most part are going to have decent records. I don't think the Bills are absolute garbage, but until they win games that they should, they're pretty damn close to garbage. The offense is average, the defense is utter garbage.
  8. The Bills will do one of the following: 1 - Take Andrew Luck (if he declares and he's their #1 QB, don't think he'll come out though) 2 - Take Ryan Mallett if he's their guy. 3 - Take the best defender that plays in the front 7 (Robert Quinn, the DE from Ohio St., Dequan Bowers, etc.) 4 - Trade down and take Mallett or best front 7 defender. A few weeks ago I would have said 90% Luck stays in school, but the momentum and talk around Luck's draft status seems to be turning. I think his finish to the season will have a big part in his decision. If he lights it up and finishes with a big bowl game, he may have to come out, especially if it looks like he's the clear cut #1 guy. On a sidenote: I know Buddy Nix puts a huge emphasis on players that have excelled for 3-4 years in college, which may knock Luck and Robert Quinn a bit down on Bills boards. Luck obviously will be finishing up his redshirt sophomore season and only has 2 years experience, and Quinn is a Jr. who won't be playing at all this season due to suspension. They're both very talented, but knowing Nix's philosphy perhaps neither is the Bills pick. Don't forget Nix had his hand in the selection of Phillip Rivers, and he emphasized that they loved Rivers because he did it for 4 years.....competed in 4 bowl games, and was the player of the game in all of his bowl games. I definitely think the Bills will be looking for players that have been very productive college players for 3+ years with their high pick.
  9. I kind of have the same gut feeling heading into this week. I'd be a little hesitant to say "breakout" because it's tough to have a breakout game touching the ball 10 times or so, but I see a Spiller TD this week as well. I think KC's defense is a bit overrated and expect Gailey to come up with a decent offensive game plan to attack it. I'm predicting we establish the run in this game, which will then open up the passing game. Now our defense that's another story.
  10. My vote for worst player would maybe just have to go to TRENT EDWARDS. Cut from the Bills. Backup for the Jags and when he gets the opportunity with the Jags he throws 2 picks in 1 half and gets hurt for a week. Dude is totally crapping out of this league. I'd be surprised to see him stick on a roster after this season.
  11. Went to the KC game 2 years ago when the Bills hung over 50 pts. on the Chiefs and won the game. It was a midseason game and the Chiefs were pretty miserable and the Bills were a couple of games below .500, nonetheless it was a fun game. The fans were respectful and knowledgable. The atmosphere was so so, but I suspect it will be much better for you as they're a good team this year. There were some good restaurants and a lot of different things to do in the downtown KC area, fun time overall.
  12. A question for those following the CBA ordeals closer than I am. Is it possible that part of the compromise to have a season in 2011 is to have a rookie wage scale in place for the 2011 draft? The reason I ask is if the Bills happen to land the #1 or even the #2 pick it becomes a lot more attractive for a team to move up without being on the hook for boatloads of money. If the Bills don't absolutely covet a player and another team does we could come away with multiple high picks, which would be a great opportunity to start rebuilding our defense. The more the Bills lose the more we should be rooting for a rookie wage scale for the 2011 draft.
  13. I was at the game and came away very unimpressed with Locker. I went in with low expectations and he didn't do anything to change my position. He may be banged up, but you have to be able to play with those injuries in the nfl. He panicked under pressure, took too many sacks, missed open receivers, all in all a very poor showing. Don't see how any team can grade him as a 1st round talent.
  14. In my eyes he doesn't seem to respond to pressure well. Which is a big no no for the NFL
  15. Locker vs. U. Of Arizona on the road tonight. Heads up for anyone curious, could be a Bill next year.
  16. Best case scenario the ravens score 17 pts. Worst case scenario they score 41, so i'll take the middle. I'm expecting the bills to give up 27 to 31 pts.
  17. Merriman has been placed on IR, but with a designation that the team has to release him when healthy (at most 6 weeks). Is it possible the Bills make a play for him? How will it work, will he have to clear waivers first, if so we would have a good chance of acquiring him.
  18. Ryan Mallett is the best fit for the Buffalo Bills. Coming into the season Mallett was my clear cut #1 QB prospect and Luck has crept up on him, but I still like Mallett best. If Andrew Luck declares, which I do not think he will, the Bills will have a lot of film to study in the offseason. I've talked a lot about Mallett in the past, so I won't go into great detail, but here's my quick take: He has the best arm & play-action fake of any QB in college football. He has excellent pocket presence and reminds me a little bit of Phillip Rivers the way he maneuvers in the pocket. He's also plenty tall to scan the field. Some weaknesses he needs to work on are accuracy, especially on the short to short/medium passes. He tends to put to much zip on the short balls making them less catchable. BTW I'm not a big fan of Locker. I think he'll end up going in the first round, but he doesn't deserve to be anywhere near the top 5 picks. In the end I think he belongs in the middle to late 1st round, but the way Tebow soared up draft boards it wouldn't surprise me to see him go higher. Lockers biggest problem is that he's extremely average in the pass game. He often stares down receivers and doesn't read his progressions well. His athleticism is outstanding, but in the NFL you need a guy who can sling the ball ov er the field and Locker is not that guy.
  19. None of the above..... Ryan Mallett is still my #1 QB prospect.
  20. There's nothing wrong with being positive and keeping hope, but I think you overrate Ralph's ability to successfully head this franchise. If we had a leader I could believe in than I could deal with the down times, but when it appears to be a never ending cycle of ineptitude it's tough. The NFL has a salary cap so every franchise is on an equal playing field, so technically speaking, the Bills "should" have a 6 in 16 (37.5% chance)of making the playoffs each season. To successfully avoind that 37.5% for 11 straight years is the sign of true ineptitude and the only constant has been Ralph. I'm with you, but not until Ralph is no longer leading the franchise.
  21. Yea, hopefully fans will start to show their discontent more and more with this team as the season progresses. I won't be there, the 15 hour roundtrip from southern New Jersey to watch this mess has become tiring. I was treated like a celebrity wearing that thing today. Everybody seems to agree the Bills have become near unwatchable.
  22. Today I decided to show up to the game with a brown paper bag from Wegmanns with eye hole cut outs, tears and a frown. To my surprise I wasn't the only one, there was another group of 4-5 wearing them in my section. It's gotten that ugly. The atmosphere at the games this year has been downright pathetic and for good reason. What an embarrassment this franchise has become. Hopefully better days are in store, but I just don't see this trainwreck getting back on track within the next couple of years, we are a dreadful football team.
  23. I'm thinking we beat the Jags and another meaningless game late in the season. Florence and McKelvin are dreadful, and with no pass rush they are even worse. Mcgee not being on the field really hurt the team this week. by the way I have a funny feeling McGee's injury is more serious than the Bills are letting on. Anytime a surgically repaired knee is flaring up it's cause for concern.
  24. McKelvin is being exposed. He should be able to cover a TE in the back of the endzone and failed to do so, letting up his second TD of the game. Lynch just fumbled, game over. Glad to see Gailey is getting fred Jackson on the field. He better learn the Bills pass game blows and rely on the run game more otherwise we're going 2-14.
  25. Is this true, I hadn't heard this? Too bad if true, I had hopes Meredith could develop into a serviceable swing tackle who could've provided adequate depth at worst. He did very little to impress in his spot duty vs. the Dolphins though. I think he could get a shot at RT (With a QB who's not a sitting duck - Trent Edwards) before he's released though.
