The arguments are pointless. I respect McDermott for building the structure. He put top defensive units on the field and put together a coaching staff that allowed Allen to develop. That is a difficult job. He was in charge of that. I’m not going to argue against the fact that a lot of coaches could win today with Josh Allen. Josh Allen is an elite level QB.

I love these posts. McDermott was here before he drafted Josh Allen!!!!! They have grown into one of the best franchises in the NFL with McDermott. He wasn’t gifted anything.

His last game was his best game last season but I’m not expecting much. I’m at the point though with Miller, Rousseau, and Epenesa that it’s now or never in terms of pass rush.

Best case scenario is 2017 Terrell Suggs. Tore his Achilles in 2015. 11 sacks age 35 in 2017.

Almost doesn’t count and anyone that watched that game knows it should’ve been a 30 point win but the players allowed Miami back in. That wasn’t much about coaching.

Here’s a question. Have the Bills ever lost to a worse team in the playoffs under McDermott? Another question would be have the Bills ever beaten a better team in the playoffs? I think the answer is no to both. Probably why there so much debate with McDermott.

Interesting because you could say that about the Bills.

Most of the football world would say Don Shula was a better coach than Marv Levy and Dan Marino was a better QB than Jim Kelly. So why couldn’t the Dolphins beat the Bills?

In my reality McDermott can’t make the playoffs without Josh Allen.

Because Stefanski made the playoffs with old man Joe Flacco. Talk to me when McDermott makes the playoffs without Josh Allen. McDermott will never make the playoffs without Allen.

It’s always our best defenders blowing it in these games also. Thats Milano bouncing off Watson. Hyde missing the open field tackle.

One thing that always confused me about the McDermott criticism is that 100% of his detractors would hire an offensive head coach to replace McDermott. But they blame the defense. I guess it makes sense. I would definitely hire the best defensive head coach available unless Andy Reid or Sean McVay decides they like Buffalo winters.

We want to believe that but I think they still win the division a couple times with an average QB. Give us Jacoby Brisset and I think McDermott wins the AFC East at least twice. I don’t think people understand how much better the Bills have been than every other team in the regular season since 2019 or 2020. It’s not really close. Playoffs are a different story. Allen completely carries the Bills in almost every playoff game.

It’s probably true a lot of coaches would have success with a top 2-4 QB in the league. I like to give McDermott more respect than that though because he built the structure that allowed Allen to develop. You could probably take any good defensive coordinator and pair him with Allen now and they could win the AFC East. Sure. Beating KC is another thing.

They haven’t come up big in the playoffs other than the Ravens game. Sure. They are the best since 2019. I understand why you’re diminishing that but it’s a pretty long stretch, 5 years.

The only players/coach to really get any love is Josh Allen, Stefon Diggs, and Daboll. No one else is highly thought of around the league. Which is crazy because the Bills statistically have the best defense in the NFL since 2019.

I was pretty early on Claypool and Samuel, if not the first. So I’ll go a different direction. Before we signed a safety I predicted our breakout player will be whatever safety we sign. So I’m going to say Mike Edwards.
