  1. The Braves need to start playing this on the jumbotron: Upton has been such a huge addition to this team already... I'm a self-admitted Braves homer, but the way our GM Frank Wren assembled this team is just brilliant. We're strong everywhere and we've done it without bringing in rental players. We have an amazing core of younger guys who are producing, younger guys who are on the way to reaching their potential, and older vets to provide stability. We're built for the long term, not the short burst. The farm system has been used PERFECTLY, with some players being targeted for future spots on the roster (e.g. Freeman, Heyward) and others being used in trade to bring in other pieces (e.g. R.Delgado). Our young guys have transitioned really well to the pro game, and our raw young starter - Tehran - is showing signs of maturity. He gave up four runs to the Nationals in the first two innings in game 1 this week, and then found his stride and held them in check for his teammates to have the chance to come back. Our relief pitching is solid and we have arguably the best closer in baseball. Exciting time to be a Braves fan!
  2. I still need to see the entire show so I can get a better feel for the kid. My dvr tried to record it, but the hockey game ran over...I only saw the 3 min clip on ESPN, so hopefully it'll broadcast again soon.
  3. I'm not sure I'd even care if the guy was running around yelling "Wapner" every day at 5:00 and freaking out when the bath water was too hot, as long as he can throw touchdowns.
  4. they were talking about the Cubbies on Atlanta radio this week...I'm taking this with a grain of salt, because atlanta talk radio people wouldn't know sports if it hit them upside the head....but is it true that Cubs fans are "generally content just watching the team" and aren't really starving for playoffs/world series? I can't imagine fans of ANY team outside of the lingerie football league being content with just watching the team play, especially fans from such an amazing sports town as Chicago. Knowing teams like the Blackhawks and Bulls play in that same city, I chalked it up to this guy being clueless. Any truth to it? Braves finally going to get a real opponent today...the Nats. We have one of the great feel good stories of the season already off and running here, though, in catcher Evan Gattis. I'll have to find a good write-up on him and post it when I get home from work. So much to be excited about with the Braves this year...nice feeling!!
  5. Well, at least in this case I'm clear on what it means
  6. I can't tell if hearing about the passing of someone I watched as a kid growing up makes me feel young or old...
  7. I'm holding out for the pantyhose before I get too excited
  8. I still re-watch that film every so often...never seems to get old. I pretty much hated the pop music of the mid-late 80s, but LOVED the early part of the decade....so I completely agree about this soundtrack. As awesome as my girl Julia Gulia was, this movie really shows why Ben Stiller is such a lucky bastard to be married to that blonde chick I saw your post count and figured there was no way someone had that many posts and I didn't know who they were...good to see you G! Good call on Titan A.E., by the way. I don't recall the soundtrack, per se, but the film is one of the best bass demos for a home theater rig that I have heard.
  9. wow, I honestly didn't even know he was still kickin' around in Cali...RIP, good sir!
  10. You go, CGF!!!
  11. Chickens??? I would never have guessed that.
  12. IIRC, we signed Sam well after the start of free agency, and when they announced the signing at OBD, many of us here at TBD were ready to sign over our first born to TD and bow down at his feet. The guy clearly had some missteps, but the guy not only took his shots but he got stuff done. Didn't he sign Posey at like 12:01am, a minute into free agency? I know a lot of guys scoff at that, and I can't argue with them since TD ultimately didn't get it done, but it was just cool having a GM where you felt anything was possible. I really think if we could poll all those people who wanted TD gone back in 2005, and ask them if they would have rather just left him in play, many of them would now say "yes". He had some very big shoes to fill in JB, and obviously we had a ton of success in the prior 12 years before he took over. But dang, I wish we would have hung on to him just a little longer. lol, this is true
  13. Goats, eh? Nice...do they have any idea what's going on in the world or are they pretty much oblivious?
  14. I loved the moves that TD made on defense...it's not a popular sentiment, but I feel strongly that Whitey would have gotten the ship righted sooner or later. If we would have kept him here instead of farting around with Marv and Buddy, there's no way we miss the playoffs this many years.
  15. Are cows pretty much the best farm animals to work with? I'm thinking they'd be a step up over pigs for sure, but maybe not quite up there with the sheep?
  16. Dude, he said MANAGE people, not milk 'em.
  17. That's easily one of the most nostalgic films for me...really takes me back. You're right, that's a great soundtrack!
  18. I thought we were going to get hit by another meteor
  19. haha, yeah taking that closer downtown isn't a big deal since he's so hot and cold...but was just so cool seeing BJ finally get going and Justin staying hot...but yeah, point taken
  20. Hell yeah...Braves erase a 5-1 deficit when the Upton brothers both go yard in the 9th...what a win!!!! J.Upton - 5 HR in first 5 games!
  21. This. Besides, in an "all things being equal" scenario, Mayock probably gets a helluva lot more right than he gets wrong. But the potential of the player is only part of the equation - you also have another huge variable in the situation the players are drafted into. Player "A" may perform exactly as Mayock expected if drafted by one team, but maybe in another situation he encounters an environment that prevents him from reaching his potential.
