That was one of the most realistic relationship films (I refuse to call it a "chick flick") I've ever seen. Joseph Gordon-Levitt has really come a long way since 3rd Rock from the Sun, and he's a legitimate leading man. Zooey Deschanel was excellent as always.

I agree, Diane Kruger was very good. I give her a ton of credit, too, cause in one of the scenes (trying to keep this non-spoiler) where she's being manhandled, Tarantino said that he was convinced that the only one who could make it convincing enough was himself. She was on the same page as wanting to make the scene as realistic as possible, so she allowed QT's hands to be the ones attacking her, although in the shot itself it was still the Landa character. But yeah, she was fantastic...she looked beautiful and exhibited a ton of class.

I didn't think Land of the Lost was a good film by any means, but I did find myself laughing a few times. I know a lot of people hate Will Ferrell, but I'm the exact opposite. When you factor in someone else who's just as funny, if not more so, and allow them to play off one another, it's hard not to laugh. I think I laughed the hardest at the scenes with Ferrell and "Chaka".

Totally agree about Hurt Locker. I wouldn't mind seeing the lead actor (don't recall his name) win for best actor, either. I thought he did a great job of helping the viewer understand what made his character tick, and a lot of that was done with subtleties. Fantastic film.

Definitely agree with you guys about Hurt Locker, and also about Moon and Sam Rockwell. My "better win" pick is the same one I've had since I saw his performance in Inglourious Basterds this past summer....the fantastic Christoph Waltz as Col. Hans Landa. I am on record as saying this is one of the best performances I've seen in my 37 years of film viewing, EVER. This was absolutely inspired casting, and as much as there was to like about this film, Mr. Waltz stole the show.

That's one of the dumbest articles I've ever read. People quit jobs, pack up a bag, sleep in their car, and travel to hollywood all the time to try and become the next star. They're lucky to get an audition for something at all, let alone have the chance to sing or whatever. When they do, they're often sized up and given the one-over in a matter of a few minutes and then shown the door. That's how show business is. It's never meant to be "fair"...life isn't fair. There are tons and tons of people who can sing. The show is not looking for that, so anyone who presents themselves as some average guy or girl who can happen to sing well is likely going to be told "thanks, but no thanks". The show is looking for INTERESTING people who are talented enough to create a fan base, draw viewers, and inspire people to pick up a phone and/or tune in each week. The fact that the father says something as dumb as, "People should watch this show for what it is. It's not a search for the best singer in America. It's a way to make money" just goes to show you how clueless these people are. Of COURSE it's all about money! How can a grown adult be naive to that fact? I don't get it.

CinemaScope 21:9 LCD TVs Hitting the Market!
ajzepp replied to ajzepp's topic in Off the Wall Archives
No kidding? I enjoyed that film...good catch! I remember back in the day my buddy and I went to see Total Recall. They had these thin tvs up on the wall just hanging there....we were like, "wow, can you imagine tvs being like THAT!?" I guess this is one of the areas where we really HAVE come a long way over the years, cause home entertainment gear is pretty awesome these days. -
CinemaScope 21:9 LCD TVs Hitting the Market!

True...Vizio is known for really insane value though, so I'm hoping maybe they surprise the market and that 58" beauty will be under $3k. A guy can dream, right? -
CinemaScope 21:9 LCD TVs Hitting the Market!

I was a bit optimistic on pricing, but if it's anywhere what Loyal2dagame has found, I guess I can scratch that off my list It's okay, though....here's a good back-up plan for us just in case http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/05/vizios-...ed-wifi-and-wi/ -
So I'm probably going to be moving into an apartment later this year, and I'm trying to plan ahead with regard to my favorite hobby - home theater and audio. I've been using a 1080p projector with a 133" screen for a while, and it's been fantastic. While I haven't ruled out setting up the projector in the apartment, I came across these new Ultra Widescreen LCD sets that are already receiving strong press. Philips has a 56" that just came out (see links below) and Vizio is about to release a 58" version, too. Now if you're mostly a tv person, then this type of set will have little to no appeal. But for those of us whose priority is film, this is a VERY interesting idea. If the price is right, one of these sets might be a great apartment warming gift to help me get over what will certainly be the painful loss of my projector for movies. Here's some demo vids for you guys... Even though I'm a Samsung loyalist when it comes to LCD sets, this Vizio has me much more excited than the Philips: Vizio Linky Pay close attention to the way they have the full HD football game in 16x9 paired up with an internet page with scores and such....that is badass!!

Canadian Press Reports George Cortez QB coach
ajzepp replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"He returned to Calgary in 1997 and spent five years as offensive co-ordinator and quarterbacks coach, when he helped shape the careers of Jeff Garcia, Dave Dickenson and a young Henry Burris." Wow, Henry Burris? I haven't heard that name in a while....I remember he was really getting a lot of attention as a future phenom in the NFL. -
Thurman Thomas Thoughts on Recent Moves
ajzepp replied to BillsNYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm really glad Thurman stays so involved with the organization. Whenever I get down on the Bills, I think of the damn PARADE of Hall of Famers we've strutted through Canton over the last several years. That's all it takes to get that prideful feeling back, and Thurman is a huge part of that. -
Yep....Season 14 starts Saturday

He ranks up there with Ben Affleck on my "wtf" list....basically it's a list of unbelievably successful people who have no observable talent or merit to justify said success.

I just read something about that, actually. Apparently there are two Simons...Cowell, and another guy who produces Idol (and I think also created it). My understanding is that they are friendly but very competitive. Simon is going to be bringing Paula to host X-Factor with him next year, and the producer Simon guy said he's going to spend as much money as he has to in order to bring in the best replacement for the Idol show after Cowell leaves. I think you'll probably see the same thing happen here that happened in the UK....Idol will phase out and XFactor will sort of take over.

I just created a bunch of new Fockers...kinda tired of it, to be honest lol. If you guys aren't going to boost, I'll start a new one. If the plan is to boost, then you'll all catch up to my guy in about a season and a half anyway. Having a false start Focker is bad karma!
-
One of my Fockers is lvl 14 DE right now, but if you guys are planning to boost then I'll just hold off boosting him until you all catch up to me. Contract with my current team expires at the end of season 14.

I don't really know how I do this, but it always comes out amazing....sautee them in some white wine and butter, and toss in a little garlic. It's delicious -
Dude, I just can't handle all that gas!

As you can tell from my earlier posts, my understanding is that it's determined by store policy. I don't know of any "industry standard", but I guess that doesn't mean there isn't one. If you feel they are not playing fair with you, then what I'd suggest you do is contact your state attorney general. I had to do that once about twelve years ago with regard to a recall notice on my vehicle that I was not made aware of. They will file your report and investigate for you. I ended up receiving a check from Chrysler to repair the damages to my Eagle Talon that resulted directly from the recall issue. I doubt you'll have to go that far, but it's an effective option should you need it. Even putting it in writing that your intent is to file a report with the atty general can be enough motivation for them to resolve your issue. This store has already (seemingly) worked with you on the tv issue, so take the same approach with the speakers. Tell them you're active on several online forums and if they are comfortable selling you damaged goods and not doing anything about it, you're happy to discuss your experience with the tens of thousands of other people who participate in such forums. That's all I got, man.
