College Football - Do You Follow a Team? A Conference?
ajzepp replied to ajzepp's topic in College Football
Hell yeah, that would be a great game to see live...the atmosphere will be amazing! I'm dying to see how some of these "dream team" freshman play for UGA...their new star RB will get a lot of playing time early since they have become thin at the position d/t eligibility issues and such. I also am really high on Aaron Murray at QB...I think this kid will end up being a great pro and I expect him to get a lot of national attention this season. The kid's a gamer! I'm working until about 6pm on that Saturday, so I can't wait to finish work, grab some wings and a brewski, and check out the game on my projector...that will be a great night of football! -
I've mentioned this a few times on here, but I was never much of a college ball fan when I lived back north. I would watch the bigger bolw games when they came around, but that was about it. I moved to Atlanta about ten years ago - not far at all from UGA 'dawgs territory - and gradually I've become more and more interested. It's at the point now where I am completely psyched about the September 3rd opener where UGA will play Boise St. in the Chick-fil-a kickoff game. That being said, I don't identify as a UGA fan, but an SEC fan. The one team I tend to follow more than others is the South Carolina Gamecocks. I have no connection to South Carolina at all, but ever since Lou Holtz coached there I've sort of taken notice of the program, and I think they have one of the best game day environments in all of football. But I have become so enamored with the quality of football in the SEC, and especially the intense rivalries, that I am psyched beyond belief for the season to start. I was just curious how some of you guys follow college ball. Are you passionate about a particular team? Do you tend to favor a particular conference? Do you only watch games between ranked opponents?

Definitely...that was my favorite of the bunch...loved that flick!

I just started and finished watching Breaking Bad

I feel the same way...when that show comes on, I'm absolutely riveted. Everything else I'm watching pales in comparison...I just wish that this season was already in the books so I could rent the episodes and see wtf is going to happen next! -

It's just funny, cause I remember reading all sorts of amazingly detailed theories on Lost, but whenever I would read articles/interviews about the writers/producers/etc, it just never seemed like any of that was really going on. People often try to read into every little nuance and detail, yet often I think it has no intended meaning at all by the creators. I don't mean for this to be a criticism at all, I just find it interesting how detailed some folks get when it comes to trying to read between the lines. -

Do you guys think that fans read more into what happens in a show than the writers do when they're writing it? -
I'd be more worried if NE signed a stud Olineman. Brady has shown to be very mediocre (at best) when he faces a rush, so until they can protect him like they used to, they can add all the offensive weapons they want. That's not to say we will beat them this year, but we're in better position to beat them this year than we have been in a long time.
-
We pounded the hell out of Chad last time he came to Blo...not worried about this signing at all.

I haven't really liked any of the coaches since Marv left, and I really wanted Haslett. That being said, I've really developed a comfort level with Chan and Buddy. I like what we have going on, and I've got a good feeling about the next couple of years. I think we're going to get back to playing consistent competitive football this season, and then next year we make the playoffs.

Thanks, I fixed it. He has taken a spot next to my favorite actor, Phillip Seymour Hoffman as two of the greatest character actors of their generation. I read a Roger Ebert review and he summed up Giamatti perfectly...he said he plays unremarkable characters that he makes memorable. Sideways is one of my favorite films of all time, and I loved his role in that. Just a fantastic actor. Yep, the trailer was in 3D so that first person sequence ended up being pretty effective. It reminded me of those films they have at Disney World where you stand in the middle of a 360 movie and it puts you in the position of riding a roller coaster, driving a boat, racing a car, etc...kind of fun. I was watching the trailer, though, and I just didn't have any interest in seeing the peter parker/spiderman origin story again. I know it's been since like 2003, but honestly it feels like I just saw this with Toby Maguire. It will definitely be a rental for me...just not interested in seeing it in the theater.

I know Ebert is as sharp as ever, but I hate seeing him in that condition physically, particularly with his face. Poor guy just got eaten alive by the cancer I grew up looking forward each week to Siskel and Ebert, and I always had that awkward feeling whenever they got into a "fight" during the show...lol Ebert has always been my favorite reviewer, even though I don't often get to see his takes on films much anymore. I've pretty much started paying the most attention to Harry Knowles and a guy from AVS named Ralph Potts. Also, I'm with you guys who really enjoyed Captain America. I thought Hugo Weaving was excellent, as was Chris Evans. And I had never heard of that female lead before, but she sure was purdy. My only gripe with the film was that it wasn't worth the extra money for the 3D version. I thought a copule of the 3D effects during the previews were fantastic, and the spider man trailer had a really intense 3D sequence, but the captain america film wasn't really impressive in that regard. I'm just about ready to resort back to seeing the 2D versions from now on unless reviews indicate a particular need to see the 3D one. But the film itself was really good, and I can't wait to see them all come together in the Avengers next year BTW, this is unrelated, but if anyone wants to see a really good character driven drama, check out Barney's Version with Paul Giamatti. I finished it up last night and thought it was excellent acting and filmmaking.

That's really impressive considering Bledsoe signed three years before you started posting here

I read an article about that earlier in the year, and Mike Brown basically indicated that he would not give in to trade demands so as not to set a precedent. On a team like the Bengals, I think his stance is somewhat justified, because otherwise you'd have half the team making demands like that. That's one of the great things about our Bills, IMO...you VERY rarely hear players talking about how they want to get out of Blo. The vast majority of them enjoy playing here and they don't throw us under the bus when the leave...just the opposite, actually. Aside from Willis and RJ, I can't think of any other examples where a player left and said anything negative about being a Bill.

I thought she was just some flashy, no-talent popstress when I first started hearing about her, but then after listening to some of the songs other than "Rehab", it was very clear that this was not just a singer, but a true artist. I think your mention of Adele is right on, cause I really love this style of music, too. The singer/songwriter genre has completely captivated me and the way Winehouse used some of her jazz influences and background in her music was really great. I picked up her album (the one with rehab on it...forgot the name) off Amazon MP3 a while back and was really impressed with it. That's the extent of what I know about her music, but I would have liked to have had the opportunity to see and hear more of what she had in store. But yeah, Adele is amazingly good...

I've often wondered about that...it's the old saying about "once you see behind the big red curtain, it's just not the same." It's always been interesting to me how certain guys in the business come off. You take someone like Bob Costas or Chris Berman, and I'm totally convinced that they COMPLETELY love the sports of baseball and football, respectively. But then you have someone like Colin Cowherd, who I wonder about being a sports fan at all. He's professional and seemingly somewhat intelligent, and he's very knowledgeable about his craft, but just seems to lack passion. It makes me wonder what motivates people to go into the sports biz professionally, and also the way being in the business affects them on a personal level. A career in sports would seemingly be a dream come true for me, but it makes me wonder if getting too close would sort of ruin my passion as a fan? I dunno...but sounds like you had some pretty great interview subjects during your run!
-
That's a great way to say it...I completely agree. Are you still a sports reporter? That must have been a great gig!

haha, Roger... One of the life lessons that it took me a while to learn growing up was the simple fact that nobody really cares. Sure, there are a few Nick Barnetts here and there, but for the most part public figures don't give a flying fart about you, me, or the next guy. As much as I really do understand your frustration, I anticipated myself feeling the same way when this all started, and I pretty much resigned myself to avoiding the whole mess until it was over. I am a caring person by nature. I work in a caring profession and I truly have concern about others - even those I have never met. People like me need to keep perspective, or else it can really erode that aspect of our personality and allow for cynicism and indifference to set in. I don't ever want to feel that way, so I basically just focus on the fact that I love the game of football, and for the time being I'm without it. I have many other forms of entertainment to focus on, and whenever they finally get their sh*t together I'll be right there with a beer and some wings on Sunday waiting for kickoff. But there's just no way I'm going to get upset about all of this...

That's a great example...that movie was all over the place I'm with you on that one...that's one big reason why I'm glad Hardy is on board...that guy will bring the intensity.

No idea what Universal Sports is, but I'll keep an eye out for the NBC coverage...would much rather watch some rugby than be stuck with baseball
-

I get recruiters wanting to talk to me about hospital positions in Alaska all the time...If there were more babes up your way, I'd be all over it! I have a cousin who worked for the gov't in both Hawaii and Alaska...he preferred Alaska
