For what it's worth, Trent Dilfer in a later segment calls us a definite contender. Says Trent is mature beyond his years, plays his best football in crunch time. Goes on to say we're a very well coached team and have the best special teams in the NFL... bar none. Also called Broncos and Titans contenders (says Titans are best team in the AFC right now as he sees it)... calls Ravens pretenders.

Don't know if anyone else saw the segment with Stuartt Scott, Steve Young, and Emmit after the game tonight. When asked if the Bills were for real Emmit basically laughed and acted like we are horrible. Claimed that the Raiders are terrible at best and Buffalo has played no one this year. He made it sound like we'll probably finish about 4-12 this year. Of course when talking about the Cowboys he started beaming and all but awarded them the Lombardi trophy. Not surprising at all... and I think we're all in agreement that Emmit sucks as an analyst, but all the same... what a MAROON!

I actually like Josh Reed quite a lot. When he's focused and comes to play (which the older he gets the more consistent he becomes it seems to me) he is a very tough, gutsy WR that makes tough catches in traffic and runs for tough YAC. As I recall we were all enamored with Reed following his rookie season and felt he made Price expendable. He obviously wasn't ready for it at that time and needed some time to mature, IMHO. Reed may never be a superstar, but he's a guy that is very valuable to have on the roster. Trent seems to have very good chemistry with him as well. A lot of completions to Reed have moved the chains.

This is getting serious around here Deano! If this keeps up, you and I may not have our annual debate over the interpretation of tiebreakers...

Just my 2 cents... I think Edwards is going to be a hell of a lot better than Delhomme/Hasselbeck. I have nothing against those guys, and they are among the upper tier in the league, but Edwards is truly something special. The guy was flat out doing surgery out there Sunday. For nearly a decade we've sat and watched our team through many a frustrating loss, where we'd almost get to the QB... only to have him deliver a KO punch. We finally have THAT guy. Trent is that guy... when Jax was up 16-10 and needed to stop a 3rd and long... they ALMOST got to Trent... only to have him step to the side and connect with Evans 30 yds. down field. And you know what? For the first time since Kelly retired, I had no doubt whatsoever that we were going to get that first down and punch it in the end zone and win that game. I don't know what it is about this guy, but he definitely has IT. It took a long time to find the guy, but I think we not only found the guy... I think we've stumbled upon another GREAT QB. Flame away, but I maintain my position on this... Trent is going to be a great one, and we're watching it unfold before our eyes.

The other thing to consider is that had the Bills not played so well and beaten Seattle and Jax, both of those teams would be 1-1 right now, each with a very narrow loss in their other games. Nobody would be writing them off as disappointing teams had Buffalo not taken it to them. Oakland is 1-1 right now, but does anyone really believe that the Raiders are better than Jax or Seattle at 0-2? This early in the season it's kind of a self fulfilling prophecy that the teams Buffalo beat have bad records, since that accounts for 50% of those teams losses.

True enough! It would be sweet if we returned the favor and just throttled the sheeee-ot out of New England this year.

If he continued to make similar statements I'd be concerned, but honestly if you're under the microscope all the time, you're bound to say something off color or just plain stupid every now and then. I don't read much into this, as an isolated incident.

This all sounds very positive. I will say this in regard to Trent: the things Trent does well tend to manifest quickly into winning football. Trent has his limitations, but typically the guy who mentally understands the game like he appears to, and has a quick release, is the guy who the game slows down for and has great success. The strong armed, physically talented QB's who don't have that mental edge take years of seasoning and in many cases never become consistently great QB's. I think we're going to see Trent turn into a damn good QB.

Training camp is upon us and we've heard grade A reports on the likes of Kawika Mitchell and Marcus Stroud. With their addition alongside first rd. phenom: Leodis McKelvin spell D-O-M-I-N-A-T-I-O-N on DEFENSE? Throw in a healthy POZ, and that's 4 positions that could be completely overhauled and upgraded. Could be a fairly stout unit! Bruce would always get a new deal and that would cause him to be "overwhelmed with joy" Was Bruce always a team player in this regard? No, but those 90's teams wouldn't have been able to accomplish what they did without him. The current version of the Bills don't have a tackle that can play on that side at nearly the level Jason Peters can, so from that we can also assume that whatever success the current Bills will experience also hinges a good deal on Peters being there. It's a crucial position that he plays, and he's one of the best in the game at it. Is Peters being a total team player here in the way he's handling it? No. But, get him signed anyway. That's just Ole Cotton's two cents. Lets get Peters "overwhelmed with joy" so we can start winning some games! Now that all of that hogwash is sorted out, lets have a dance off... but a word of caution, Ole Cotton runs a pretty mean ELECTRIC SLIDE!
