  1. IIRC, the big flap over that hit was because Clifton was in no position to affect the outcome of the play.
  2. Don't know about the conditioning - but Jones has had chronic knee problems the last 3 years. He is a tough guy who does play through pain, however. I've no idea what shape he's in, or will be in come training camp. He did miss the final six games last season.
  3. That, or he might beat out Edwards in camp. Wouldn't that be a rip?
  4. He'll be real sick, when an NFL tackle moves outside then gives him a 300 lb. elbow to the chops.
  5. CIN released Mike Doss today - there's another name...
  6. Because then, he's on the open market to 31 other clubs. He has over four years in so it's not a waiver wire thing. If he gets cut, I'd say that they think he can't do it anymore, or it's one of those cash due things. Like Dockery, IIRC. Jones has had more than a few lousy games. No team shoves a good LT down the walk and out the gate, if he can still get it done.
  7. Those two clowns at rotoworld must read my posts... although it's the knee.
  8. Thanks. I've no doubt that every position coach does his own bit of scouting in some form or another. If in the 6th or 7th, one says "I'd like to take a shot on this kid". I'm inclined to trust that position coach, and pull that trigger when they present a good case. Why hire a guy in the first place, if not?
  9. Just a SWAG, but my guess he though Oher at #11 was the correct choice. That's as may be, but I continue to shake my head at how unprepared many of the prominent talking heads are. It's pretty obvious that Peters going to PHI wasn't exactly a plus for an iffy OL. I'm not a real big fan of the Maybin pick, but you would think that these folks would be able to glean that the BUF d-line needs help. It amazes me how unprepared most of these pundits are - poor at studying the needs and problems and tendencies of only 32 business organizations, and about a sport that is a four-act play repeated with this or that variation over a hundred years as well. It's child's play compared to - say - an analyst that studies commodity prices with thousands of competing participants and issues all over the globe. I think that the bulk of them are no more than boisterous pretty boys working an entertainment gig.
  10. We told 'em, udonkey. ..."Only four other schools had more players drafted. Southern California led with 11, followed by Ohio State, Oregon State and South Carolina with seven each. Four other schools had six."... http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/s....cincinnati.com
  11. I would have preferred a look-see at DT's and OTs, but occasionally, you can find a good player in the 7th (or other lower rounds) that surprises. Ethan Kilmer, WR/Safety - PSU was a 7th round pick in '06. His story at PSU is interesting...a walk on. It became apparent that he was a ST whiz. Something like 12 tackles of returners - I watched him and saw Tasker-like tendencies. He played some S as an injury fill-in late in the season. Hit hard, took a 52 yard pick to the house. Unfortunately, He suffered a lower leg injury, but the B'gals were so hopeful about him, they kept him on their active roster for 6 or 7 games in '07. That's something - burning up a roster spot for a 7th rounder. He's on MIA's team last I heard, and I hope he regains health. Chinedum Ndukwe, SS - ND. Picked in the 7th in '07, he showed to be a very smart, hard-hitting player, and became the starter in '08. Had an injury setback, but in 2 years, his stats and play on the field are good. Lady Luck struck. http://www.nfl.com/players/chinedumndukwe/...le?id=NDU344714 I speculate that 7th rounders, perhaps 6th, can be hunches...this or that one has something about him that appeals; forget positional needs, this kid even with his warts has something that somehow makes one think he could make a roster. Every pick is a dice roll - I'm for giving these youngsters a chance.
  12. Jones has a bum knee. And has become a whiner. So I suppose they might axe him to save some $. However, they did cut OT Kirk Barton on Friday, who they picked up the last week of '08. He was scooped up by DET on the waiver wire. If Andrew Whitworth comes back from his injury (bad high ankle sprain), I guess they'd move him back to LT, with Nate Livings at LG, Bobbie Williams at RG, and last years' #4 Anthony Collins at RT. Center is a question for them. Have to wait and see if/when Smith gets any starts...
  13. Post count is now 3, and climbing.
  14. "Slowly I turned...step by step...inch by inch..."
  15. Maybe they want to form a DB chorus line. Tonight: The Buffalo Rockettes appearing in concert at Kleinhans.
  16. Why were you tipping over?
  17. Yes, it does. But burning the #42 overall pick on a backstop safety candidate doesn't strike me as a particularly brilliant move.
  18. Exactly. Otherwise, it's just a bunch of pap and hype and self-serving gratification. Modern Man in his element. Care to offer any comment on my posits?
  19. Who knows? Nobody has hit the field yet. I like the two OL picks after the years of neglect by not using early picks there. I'm still waiting for prospects that might hold promise of improving run defense and abate the slow bleed by teams running the clock on us. It's been a chronic problem the past several seasons IMO. Bend-don't-break zone coverage invites that. I know nothing about Maybin by actually watching him play, but from what I've read, he doesn't get high marks for run defense, stringing out plays and sealing the sideline. They say he has good lateral range, so perhaps the coaches will help him with that. Nice if he can bring some outside pass pressure, but if that makes the opposition just run it up the gut more...well. I read up on Byrd. I came across "works best in zone coverage" things. In the 2nd, I want a man coverage DB - the way the NFL offenses work today, you see 3 wr sets with some regularity, and also 4. The term is "flooding the zone", IIRC. Tomorrow, I would like to see a DT and a LB with some size and some attitude. I give'em a "C" - same as I give every team until draftees actually make a club and start playing.
  20. Pretty decent teamss the last few seasons for UConn - 4 players in the 1st two rounds. Only one from FLA...
  21. Only one more pick for them tonight. Then four 3rd round picks tomorrow. Where are they going to get room for all of them?

  23. Well, those bracelets he was wearing were nice...
