This is a very good story from John "Gazoo" Clayton. Paul Tagliabue has been painted by many as an incompetant shadow of Pete Rozelle. But it sounds like he is trying to be a leader, along with Gene Upshaw, and prevent the new generation of NFL owners from making the same mistakes of the past.

Arrogance and ego prevent the likes of Jerry Jones and Bob Kraft to admit that the Wilsons, Rooneys and Hunts can teach them anything. Tagliabue looks like he is doing his best to get them to listen.

  2. These kind of questions are pointless. A player doesn't become great in a vacuum. His success, or failure, has as much to do with the team he plays for as it does with his own talent. Take some of the greatest players ever, put them on different teams, and I believe some would be less successful or even fail completely. There are just too many valiables: coaching, teammates, injuries, bad bounces, etc.

Looking at it the other way, some less-than-stellar players could have been great in under different circumstances.

  3. I do not vouch for the reality of the following. It looks legit. I found it posted on Bills Fan Zone and thought the gang at TBD would be interested. As always, check the facts.

My name is Brian Dunphy and I am an Audience Coordinator for ESPN2’s sports talk show Quite Frankly with Stephen A. Smith.

The reason I am contacting you is that we just found out that former NFL star and Hall of Fame Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly, is scheduled to appear LIVE in studio on Tuesday, March 14 at 6:30 pm.

We would like to extend to you and your organization FREE tickets to attend the show. We realize that this maybe short notice, but it would be a great opportunity for some of your forum members to get together and meet up for an exciting sports show. The tickets are open to your all interested members, family members, friends, and co-workers.

Our studio is located in the heart of New York City, across the street from Madison Square Garden. Again the show date is Tuesday, March 14 at 6:30 pm with a 5:00 pm check-in.

If you or any of your members are interested in attending the show, please call Brian at 646-708-71025 or email Brian.C.Dunphy.-ND@espn.com

In addition, please feel free to post this information on your website for all Buffalo Bills fans located in the New York or tri-state area.

    Thank you.

  4. Cruise ships can access Buffalo through the St.Lawrence Seaway and the Wellend Canal. While there is no official cruise ship dock, large ocean-going freighters can easily dock in the Union Canal and Buffalo River.

I didn't say it was easy. Just possible.

  5. I think all the talk of a Super Bowl in Buffalo is ridiculous. The city would have to do some major surgery to it's national image before there's even a prayer of it happening.

Some things woud have to happen first:

    1) New stadium with roof

    2) Take Chippawa Street and multiply it at least 10 times

    3) Some more hotels, however bringing some cruise ships and docking them near the arena could be a viable temporary solution.

    4) Build some nice casinos

    5) Adopt the same rules governing Canadian strip clubs: everything off, full-contact!

    6) No last call during Super Bowl week. Booze 24/7!

    7) Make sure that all the stadium, hotel rooms, nightclubs, strip joints, and restaurants are all in close proximity to each other so people don't have to drive all over to get to a party.

Do all that and MAYBE you'd have a shot at a Super Bowl.

  6. In reality all debates about Losman vs. Holcomb are moot because of (1) The O-line and (2) the offensive playcalling. Let Levy address the O-line first, and Fairchild the gameplan. I will defer to the coaching staff to pick the best starter, be it Losman, Holcomb, or Billy Joe Hobert.

But one point is indisputable (for me anyway)...You don't know what Losman's potential is after 9 games. You can't make judgements on any QB after 9 games in the NFL. Anyone who says they can is either psychic, or a liar.

  7. How about JP Losman blowing out his knee in a pick-up basketball game next week?  ;-)

Or a little less fanciful, how about Jauron and Levy watching both practice film and game film of Losman and deciding that "we think with about 95% confidence that Losman just doesn't have it"?  And while maybe not using the #8 pick on Losman, using the 3rd or 4th rounder on him?

Only if they are as dumb as some of the poster here.

C'mon. If JP played 9 games and completed zero passes, and got sacked 89 times, then you can say he doesn't have it. But they guy showed me some flashes of brilliance. Did he miss receivers? Did he throw int's? What QB in his first year hasn't? (see: Elway, Manning, Brees)

  8. Ok, perhaps some of you missed Marv's comments about how we want faster, smaller D-Linemen. Every where I look I see people saying we're going to draft Ngata. Well, a 338 pound Samoan dude ain't light or very fast for that matter. Unless Marv has no clue what he's talking about (there is always that chance) we're looking for guys who can fly to the ball (a la Lovie Smith defensive style) rather than big 2-gap DT's.

So I don't wanna see no more Ngata. Period.

Just as long as we aren't drafting Cutler, Young, or Linhert!

  9. oh please--of course YOUNG has more promise. The guy is a winner---almost singlehandedly won the national championship game.In my book that shows TONS of promise. The guy has great football instincts--and played real football--not Tulane football.--That being said--I havent given up on JP.

    617003[/snapback]

Young looked great...against college defenses. How will he do vs the NFL? Think of every run-n-gun style of QB who tore it up in college. Has anyone been a huge success inthe NFL? No. Why? Because the stuff they could do against defenders who are now selling insurance, you can't do against an NFL defense.

  10. You don't have to listen to him no matter where you live- your choice.

Except Bob's show is the only source of Bills sports talk streamed on the internet. The Tuesday Night Roundtable show is great. I like Bob because he is such an odd duck. I find it funny he barely has a grasp of the English language, yet he writes a newspaper column. But there are times I don't get his news judgement.
