  1. Oh goody.  Let's rehash the Johnson vs. Flutie debate again.  I never tire of it.

I didn't bring it up to dump on Flutie. I am just amazed that a crushing loss like that is nowhere on Bills fans "$h!t list." I mean, that's all we do, right? Rehash old wounds? I only bring up Flutie as a possible explanation.

  2. Discussing the latest ESPN promo about the Bills, some people started bringing up all the crushing defeats and humiliations the Bills have suffered. All the usual suspects were mentioned: Wide right...Thurman's lost helmet...Homerun forward lateral...even Ronnie Harmon's alligator arms against Cleveland in 1989.

It occured to me that there is one infamous play that no one on this board or any other Bills board ever talks about...

Jan. 2 1999: AFC divisional playoffs - Bills lose 24-17 to the Dolphins. A chance to tie with 9 seconds left is lost when the QB is sacked and fumbled the ball on the Miami 1 yd line.

I have to wonder if maybe because the QB on that play was Doug Flutie, that people have swept that memory under the rug?

  3. Whoever wrote that script nailed it. Sad, but it really tells the story of how much the Bills mean to their fans, and how they keep the faith. It also nails how the Bills franchise is snakebut.

People talk about Red Sox fans waiting 86 years, but the Sox could always be counted on to be competative. Being a Bills fan means watching and caring even when they are 2-14.

  4. Before I'd support Golisano, I have to see how he handles the Sabres.  His first year showed me NOTHING good.  His moves (or lack of them) this year, again, showed me NOTHING at all.  So far, the team is performing.  Let's see if he can be a good and classy owner for a few years before placing our beloved Bills in his hands.

Yeah, those Sabres are a bunch of underperforming losers :P Did you ever consider that Tom felt the team was in good shape as is and didn't need a "name" free agent signing? Buffalo sports fans = RJ.

You know, some of the BEST moves are sometimes the ones you DON'T make!

  5. Think that may have a lot to do with why folks do not move back. Their spouse is from somewhere else, and most of them want no part of WNY

My wife HATES Buffalo because she grew up in some antiseptic suburb of Philadelphia and she was freaked out by the "grittyness" of a real city. I guess she never got into Philly much either.

  6. I've always thought that Mel Kiper, Jr. has had the itch to ply his knowledge at the General Managers level in the National Football League. Is now the time to give him his shot at building a franchise through the draft and free agency? I don't know if he is considered an outsider by league people, but who cares if he's capable of bringing a winner to Buffalo or another team. The final thought I have about Mel is that he has enough of a "chip-on-the-shoulder" mentality, that it's now too far fetched to think that he could succeed.

    540468[/snapback]

Oh God, you CAN'T be serious!!!

    Mel Kiper on Mike Williams:

He is a great pass blocker and is exceptional at sustaining blocks as a run blocker. He is nimble at 375 pounds, often getting downfield to help spring running backs for large gains. He has enough polish to step in and be an immediate starter and anchor on the Bills' offensive line. Mike Williams at the forefront of players we

will remember 10 years from now.

If Tom Donahoe is an idiot for drafting him, what does that make Kiper?

  7. Who would you rather see? There really aren't many hot head coaches that will be available this season, These are two guys that come to my mind. Who would you rather see?

Don't know anything about Rivera, but people forget what a creampuff Carroll was in New England. The book on Carroll is he's great with college kids but he can't coach pros.

P.S...It's hilarious to hear how "proud" Pats fans are of Carroll now when they were calling him the worst coach in Patriots histiry just a few years ago.

  8. Yup. I was sitting in the 2nd row, right behind the 3 Buff News guys, including Sullivan. TD and his family were also there.

Outside of Cage, UB has no one that can hit an outside shot. Cage literally won them the game at the end by hitting 3-4 3 pointers. They're in big trouble come conference games next month, unless they can shoot better and hit free throws. They do play great D and have tons of energy. Graduation took away their best players and reality may set in next month. Witherspoon is an excellent Coach and will work on these guys.

I forgot to ask....Was TD and Jerry Sullivan sitting together sharing a popcorn?

I think they are better than they looked last night. I watched them beat a pretty good Rutgers team two weeks ago. That Elon game had "trap" written all over it. Coach Reggie is an excellent coach. He was late for his radio post-game interview because he was probably ripping his team a new one in the locker room. He won't stand for anything less than 100% from his team.

I think they will be ready by January when the MAC part of their schedule begins. Just don't look past Delaware State.

  10. What's Air America...?

I found a deal online for 1 year of service for $77.  Unfortunately, I found a deal to get the receiver for only $49, but it was after I already bought this one; wouldn't have had it in time for Xmas anyway, so I guess I won't complain.

Air America is a liberal radio talk network. Mostly unlistenable (and I lean left! Just ask Ghost Of Bib) but the Al Franken show middyas is pretty good.

  11. Laugh if you will, but this was one INCREDIBLE game! UB was lucky to win.

Elon took a 8 point lead with 4 minutes left. UB comes back to go up by 1 with 22sec left. Elon drives to the basket and scores with 4sec to go up 67-66 BUT!!!! Ref calls a charge! No bucket, UB ball! Foul on the inbound, UB gets two on the line. Now it's 68-65 with 2sec left. Elon throws the long inbound pass and gets off a 3 at the buzzer...GOOD! BUT!!!!! Ref says Elon player stepped on the line!! 2-point bucket...UB WINS 67-66!!!!

UB is now 9-1 but this game was one they deserved to lose! Maybe the long layoff made them rusty. Elon took them to OT last year. Buffalo better get their crap together before they start the MAC portion of their schedule. You could hear Coach Reggie screaming at his guys during the game. Ice cold shooting and dumb turnovers.

  12. The trouble with a guy like Parcells is he doesn't care about coaching and winning like he used to. You can see it...he's not the same guy he was with the Giants. I don't think he puts in the work anymore, and when things get tough, he cuts and runs (see Jets/Patriots) There's also the possibility that Bill Belichick was the REAL genius in his coaching. Now that he's gone, he hasn't done anything.

Parcells supposedly has a house in Saratoga that he wants to be closer to. I highly doubt the Jets, Giants, or Pats would take him back, so taking a job with the Bills is not impossible. But I think it would be like the Bledsoe trade. A big deal when he's hired, fading into a whimper when he quits in two years. Just my opinion.
