Yeah I haven't watched the UFL to see what this is all about, preseason will definitely be good to see how this rule works.

Oddly enough, the UFL abandoned the XFL-style kickoff rule and went back to the usual format.

I know some will hate it because "change bad" but I'm interested to see how this plays out. I like the idea of keeping returns relevant. Of course this would hit at a time where Buffalo doesn't have a clear "return specialist" rostered ..but let's see what the draft brings.

This changes the kickoff strategy 100%. Now it's about making holes to run through. There's no second level so once you break through it's a foot race.

How would an onside kick attempt work?

The old way. The XFL made you convert a 4th and 15 at your own 25 to retain possession. The NFL did not adopt that rule.

I really dislike that they passed this without trying it for a year in the pre-season first, like have done with MANY other rules. If players, coaches, fans, etc hate it... why keep it?

We may all love it but at the end, all of the rule changes coming are harming the game.

Just doing this in preseason is impractical. Preseason is when you work on plays for the upcoming season. Why put in all that work for a rule that goes away?

Yep. And newly constructed bridges usually do but not always. Fun fact, the picture of the Skyway in that Wikipedia site is of a bridge that was built to replace a bridge that was destroyed in the exact same way as the Key Bridge was today. Ship collision. Hence when they built its replacement protection from ship collision was a strong consideration.

The Key Bridge was built in 1977. There are TONS of older bridges in shipping lanes that don't have them. The South Grand Island Bridge is an example. The Bay Bridge in Annapolis doesn't have them either.

Whatever they replace the Key Bridge with won't be built the same way. It'll either have the biggest dolphins you've ever seen or be a different type of bridge that gets the support pillars much further out of the shipping channel so any ship would ground itself before hitting them.

Or a tunnel, like the I-95 Harbor Tunnel.

Hey, it’s just a phone.  Who has such a personal relationship with a phone? Mine does what I want it to do, it works. It’s not special, it just works.

This reminds me of someone I worked with years ago who bought a Saturn car. It was such a big deal to them they joined a Saturn car club. I don’t have that kind of relationship with……stuff. Get a life.

The “iSheeple” thing is an odd way to label people. I’m not big on labels, but does everyone with an Apple product fit the silly, demeaning term? It’s what I have. I’m not married to it.

My bias against McDermott is well documented.

Wondering how others view his post-season PC and recent interview calling critics narrow minded. He also stated its hard to win in the NFL. I recall a prior HC pilloried on this site for saying the exact same words.

My take on the PC was that he was very defensive. Without even being asked. He launched into a defense of his tenure as coach even dating back to prior seasons.

And now he calls critics narrow minded for wondering if the Bills will win a SB with him as HC. You have to belive at this point the thought has crossed Beane and Pegula's mind. He's trying to defend at best status quo to perhaps taking a step or two back from 13 seconds.

Then the most ridiculous statement of all.

"We're looking for Josh to really be that face of the franchise, like he's been, and continue to evolve."

I mean WTF. What team has he been coaching? Does he think Hyde and Poyer were the face of the franchise?? Is he trying to lay blame on Allen? Without Allen McDermott might be coaching DBs in Kansas City.  Was Allen on the field when the defense crumbled multiple times against Denver,Philadelphia, and others. KC only stopped themselves in the playoff game. If not for a goal line fumble the Bills are not even close in that game.

It may not seem that I'm open minded but I really try. I've gave McDermott praise many times last year.

So what does the board think?

For those that crucified Jauron how do you take the It’s hard to win in the NFL line?

For those that defend McDermott, what do you all think?

You know how people sometimes see what they want to see?

"regular" club seat holderWITH A LAWYER🤣  I ain't gots no lawyer!

I assume you are not a STH. I am also going to assume you donated funds, especially to out-of-town season ticket holders, (who kept their STH to help keep the Bills in Buffal0 from 99 to 2017) for all the November and December games when tickets could not be GIVEN away. I don't remember getting my donation but I can send you my Venmo if that helps.

People get pretty righteous when the Bills are good, don't they? Where were they from late November and December during the drought years?

That means you might not like football as much as the next. Literally.

There are people who pore over hundreds of hours of college film to scout players, but watching a few spring games is too much??

I am not the greatest advanced metrics guy on the hockey side, but people smarter than me have used them to point out that UPL is carrying the load of this team by himself, the defense hasn’t been any better, and they’ve been attempting to go all in on offense like last year since December.

Certainly take that with a grain of salt. But the eye test says the team this year has been consistently worse at just about everything other than one goaltender.

Mitts commenting twice about how hard/fast Colorado practices, Maurice mentioning that they “do things differently”  and can get some my physiology out of Okposo, with Tuch saying “if you watch the games we play hard”  is a very bad and embarrassing look.

That is incorrect. The defense has improved greatly. UPL has been great too but it's not all one, it's both. What failed this year is the scoring from last year but even that's picking up now. Could be injuries. But the the big thing is the improvement in defense and finding a #1 goalie. You need that to be a playoff team. So the hope is next year will be the year. If not, then we can talk about coaching/GM changes. At least you would have given Adams and Granato a long chance.

  8. 3 hours ago, Mango said:

What does this mean? They’ll make the playoffs, or miss a 5th year in a row?

Also didn’t Adams already “extend their tenure” a season or two ago for no real reason?

But they also made small gains every year, so they aren't getting fired. Pegula has rode the coach/GM carousel long enough to know that having a trigger firing finger doesn't work.

  9. 2 hours ago, Mango said:

I watch a lot of the Sabres. I have stayed up for this entire WC run.

If Detroit makes the post season Kevyn Adams will be the longest tenured GM without a playoff appearance. I’m not sure anybody who says “hockey rebuilds take a long time” in defense of Adams/Pegula is watching very much hockey across the league.

The problem with this version of the Sabres is their roster construction is flawed.

The problem with the Sabres the last 13 years is an owner who convinced he is a “hockey man”.

Well Adams and Granato are going to extend their tenures next year.

Actually when I get stung by a bee I yell “ow, fork!” then swat it. If they make their home on my kids swing set I remove it.

“You die a hero or live long enough to be the villain” is likely more apt. I am fairly confident that Pegula is an Allen retirement and being tasked with hiring from being run out of town. The Sabres are begging for the Golisano years and if Pegula moves on from Bean we will be longing for the cash to cap era.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Yeah I agree that Pegula is pretty much a huge POS also. Let’s be honest, his wife is the only reason why he owns the Bills and Sabres. He doesn’t care about the town or nearby areas. All he cares about is making money. At least now that his trophy wife is no longer able to run things for him.

You don't want to hear it but Terry is the only reason we aren't watching the Toronto Bon Jovi Bills now. I also don't think either of you watch the Sabres much, other than the scoreboard and standings. It just takes longer to develop a team in hockey. The Sabres are slowly getting there now that they have a goalie and defense.

And that is what the NFL wants. They want the riff raff as someone said, gone from stadiums.  To hell with how long they have been die hard fans.

And it's Terry Pegula, not other owners, the state or county, that gets PSL money.

Correct. Fan PSLs are part off the Bills "contribution" towards building the stadium.

So does anybody know a saint that wants a football team?
