But is having a microphone on the coach really that interesting? Like, you’re not hearing Andy Reid or Sean McVay on the sideline, you’re hearing no one special.

The XP thing is interesting, granted, but there’s not a lot of scoring to begin with.

To me it is. Also being able to hear the officials discuss calls. I find it very interesting. At least you can understand why certain calls get made, unlike the NFL.

Currently watching Houston/Birmingham and I think I’ve figured out what’s wrong with the UFL - there’s nothing novel about it.

AAF was fun because they had all sorts of former NFLers that you knew, like Trent Richardson and Johnny Manziel.

XFL was a reboot of one of the greatest failures ever.

The UFL is just boring football. There’s nothing interesting about it. There’s no star power, the stadiums have maybe 2,000 people inside, and they don’t try to be anything different.

Its football in the same way that hydrogen peroxide is substance to an alcoholic

I don't get this take. Yeah, they are both 4-down football but there are a ton of differences. The biggest is being able to hear coaches, players and referees live in-game. Then there's 1, 2 and 3 point-after TDs. (No kicking XPs.) The dynamic kickoff that the NFL adopted was created in the XFL (now UFL.) They also invented the 4th and 12 version of the onside kick.

If you ever get to Montreal, make sure to check out Wilensky’s.  Fried bologna with salami, swiss cheese, and mustard on a roll.  It’s a must whenever I get up there.

I was just in MTL. Wish I saw this sooner.

    Other than me?

I don't hold onto a grudge.  I share it willingly.

People hate Terry Pegula more than Jon Bon Jovi. Just goes to prove that trying to do something nice only earns you scorn. I said it the day he bought the Bills and everyone was fawning over him and Kim. I knew in a few years he'd be reviled, because that's just how it is.

As for JBJ, I never cared for his music anyway. Otherwise he seems like a nice guy, beyond him trying to steal our team. (Sorry Jon, no matter what you say about it now, we know that was the plan.)

I too don’t understand the economics of it. UFL games do eat up a lot of time and there’s hope to grow the league. Maybe Fox and these other networks own a piece of the league?

In a sense. The keep the league afloat because they want programming. And up until this year UFL, USFL, XFL ratings were good enough to keep going. Don't forget a lot of people bet on UFL games. (The bet on Polish ping pong, why wouldn't they bet on UFL?)

  6. Leafs play the Sabres tonight. Normally that means 10-12K Toronto fans at Key Bank Center. But right now they're are thousands of unsold seats. Canadians aren't crossing the border now. That represents about 500,000 drop in market size for the Bandits and Sabres. It really raises the question if these franchises can survive with a big reduction in market. (The Bills will be hurt somewhat but they only play once a week. Sabres okay 2-4x a week.)

We have it. His name is Shakir. Perhaps you’ve heard of him? Ya know, 2nd contract?

In theory they are the same but in practice Beasley was a different player. Maybe it was because Allen was younger and greener as a QB when Beasley played, but he seemed to be Allen's break-glass-in-case-of-emergency guy. A WR you could count on to extend a drive.

Based on where most off ball linebackers go in today's draft.. and with how many there are

With his competition level and size he's still squarely in the 6-7th range but still probably closer to 7th or UDFA

very good athlete and football player who mite have some limitations in the league that keeps him a core special teamer

There's really only one Matt Milano flying around the NFL at 225 being an all pro .. and Shaun does not hit with the intensity or will to destroy that Milano does

That said I am a tough evaluator and I'm trying hard to stay away from wny bias and someone I've watched for a long time

He fits better at the will for the NFL level but needs to work on some fluidity .. I have him squarely as a special teams player with upside at the will

How does Dolac compare to Andreesen? What's Buffalo Joe's future role?

    When do the Jets play?

NFL relegation! (Don't laugh too hard. We would have been there not long ago.)

Summer is the worst time of year for sports, for me. So to have normal 4-down football to watch is something I like. But one thing I really enjoy about the UFL is the open audio between coaches, players and officials. I love hearing what's being discussed. I like hearing the replay judges explain why they ruled the way they did.

There were two broadcast games on Sunday. My impressions, the running was enjoyable, and the defenses were competent. The teams seemed evenly matched. Close games.

Camerawork and clarity were decent; there were games in the NFL last year where you could barely pick out the ball, the images were blurry, and the cameras were all over the field, too far away, or too close in. A nice balance today on ESPN/ ABC. The announcers in some NFL games last year were too busy talking to bother to even follow the action on the field. Not today’s games. Seeing the coaches more and calling the plays was nice.

I really liked the transparency of everything. The officials seemed much better than the NFL. Last season in the NFL, the officials were horrible and determined too many games. Wish the NFL could get their act together on officiating. The officials worked quickly and didn’t slow down the game; they were fair, balanced, and made rapid decisions. In the NFL, the officials were inconsistent and played oblivious favorites on the field.

The only obvious drawback was the quality of the QBs and the WRs, guess there are just not enough talented players at those positions who will work cheaply enough.

    Overall, worth checking out.

I watched a couple games this weekend. I enjoy UFL more than golf or MLB. Sorry.

He was really bad in coverage all year. He’ll need to improve a lot in that area to even be a good starting LB, let alone replacing a former All Pro.

Note how many interceptions Dolac had in 2024: 5.
