  1. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/why-did-texans-reduce-stefon-diggss-contract-from-four-years-to-one

This has to be the dumbest reason, if true, for the Texans voiding Diggs final 3 contract years, saying...

"They want the best possible version of Diggs. They want none of the little things the Bills tolerated until it became one big thing."

So they are basically saying Diggs is a diva and they don't want to upset "his highness." Good luck.

I've seen people falling over rows of seats in the clubs because they were totally blotto.

No but he does make the receiving group much better than it was before. Honestly I hope he excels.

I don't because of the way he carried himself these last two years, the cryptic nonsense. The Texans better stay on his good side.

Litigation of any kind should never take 19 years to complete. There’s just too much BS baked into the system and only available to very deep pocketed adversaries.

The thing is Buffalo was that close to creating a "Patriot Place" decades before the idea ever dawned on Robert Kraft. This was supposed to include a hotel and retail development. Who knows what the team's fortunes would have been playing in a dome since 1972? It would have been that much closer to Rochester as well.

  5. "40 years ago this week:

One of the lengthiest trials in the history of Western New York was underway in New York State Supreme Court.

It involved the proposed dome stadium in Lancaster which was supposed to serve as a new home for the Buffalo Bills.

In 1969, Erie County agreed in principle with developer Edward Cottrell to build the indoor, multi use stadium along with a theme park and hotel complex on land bounded by Genesee St., Harris Hill Rd., Walden Ave., and Story Rd.

However, as cost estimates for the project rose, the county shifted gears and decided on an open air stadium in Orchard Park for about one-third of the cost of the dome stadium complex.

Cottrell sued for breach of contract, seeking more than $400 million in damages,. and setting off a near two decade long legal battle.

After it took 14 years for the case to get to trial, the trial  itself lasted 42 weeks and concluded with Cottrell being awarded $53 million. However, after another five years of appeals, the county finally paid Cottrell $10 million, concluding the case after 19 years."

Pretty sure if we traded Diggs after June 1st we could’ve split that $31m dead cap between 2024 and 2025.

Assuming a team would wait to make that trade. How easy do you think it is trading a massive salary? The Texans might have gotten a rookie WR in the draft and said "never mind." The NFL is not obligated to do things when it suits you.

What does it tell you that they could only get a 2025 second-round pick for the guy? Hey, the man was great when he was productive.

Lastly, let's not forget what Beane stepped into when he took the Buffalo GM job way back when and he needed to clean house.

    Trust the Beane!

It's called making deals from a disadvantage.

This team is only going as far as Milano takes them this year.

Josh Allen is just a passenger on the Milano train. 🤔

If I recall all this correctly; his contract before they gave him an extension in 2022 would have expired after last season. No dead cap, just a mutual parting of ways. I remember thinking that the extension didn't seem necessary, he was already under contract for that season and the next. The new contract saved them $6 million in cap space that year.

Now they trade him for a future pick and take the biggest one year dead cap hit for a WR in the history of the league. $31 million of your cap gone for no player at all. In all likelihood throw away your chances for an entire year for absolutely nothing. He was already under contract through last season.

      That's some real brilliant chess

Wasn't that extension more for creating cap space? It's also pretty disingenuous to call a lack of ESP being a bad GM.

I am very happy the UFL exists (and that it is a combination of the XFL and USFL as there isn't room in the market for two spring football leagues) because it does give guys a chance to make the NFL in unorthodox ways. The CFL is viable too but I think for whatever reason it is a lot harder to go from the CFL to the NFL. Maybe because the CFL rules are so vastly different?

Anyway I am glad to have a spring football league where guys can find ways to get into the NFL that weren't there in the past.

The difference between the CFL and UFL is players can't get out of CFL contracts to go to the NFL, while all UFL contracts are just one season long.

Neilson numbers may be more important to keep broadcasters continuing to show games.

UFL attendance gets off to so-so start

(NBC is not broadcasting partner so do not expect soft treatment)

UFL’s debut had so-so attendance, to no surprise. Via Mike Mitchell of SI.com, the opening game between the Birmingham Stallions and the Arlington Renegade attracted 14,153 fans.

The second game, featuring the Michigan Panthers hosting the St. Louis Battlehawks, drew 9,444 to Ford Field.

NFL analyst points out reasons for "so-so" attendance at UFL season opener

    https://www.sportskeeda.com/nfl/news-nfl-analyst-points-reasons-so-so-attendance-ufl-season-opener

The official attendance figure for the UFL’s opening game at Choctaw Stadium between the @USFLStallions and @XFLRenegades is 14,153.

St. Louis had huge numbers last year. Wait until their home opener. But UFL aren't going to go above 20K on average.

Ever watch Tuesday/Wednesday MACtion college games on ESPN? Most nights they barely have a hundred people in the stands.

At first I thought the entire XFL and the entire USFL combined to make a big league. That would be much cooler. Still, the games yesterday were pretty good. I have enjoyed it

Only 4 franchises from each former league survived the merger, but they could be reactivated later

I like the fact that Memphis, San Antonio, Birmingham, and St.Louis are in this league. The idea of a spring league in smaller markets without an NFL team is great. Fan enthusiasm is important to me when trying to get into a new league. If I don’t see any interest in the stands, why should I be interested? It adds a human element that I find important. On the same note, I don’t understand why these leagues keep trying DC, Dallas, and Houston. Texas loves football, but those large markets aren’t going to care, they already have enough football to stay occupied.

DC would sell out their 17K soccer stadium. In fact they are famous for their "beer snakes "
