Lots of weather references. My problem with the weather in Buffalo is that it is not harsh enough. By that, I mean it's not really cold enough to be guaranteed a good ski season, a white Christmas, or outdoor ice skating. Hamburg used to freeze a field for skating every year, but the cold is not sustained long enough for it to remain, so you get maybe two weeks of skating/ice hockey in (if you're lucky) and then the ice melts. And then, to top it off, the weather just stays crappy until about mid-May. You get that tease in late March or early April with some nice warm weather and you think winter is over, then BAM -- 12 inches of snow on April 30th or something like that. It's like the worst of all worlds weather-wise -- not really cold enough to be a reliable outdoor winter wonderland and yet, at the same time, the winter just goes on and on and on and on.

Marchibroda=most underrated coach in Bills history. He was the genius behind the Super Bowl runs. Marv was more of a figurehead -- did his job well -- kept the team focused, etc., but Marchibroda was the reason for the offensive success. I hated to see him leave, but I think he was tired of existing in Marv's shadow and not getting the full credit deserved.

True! Either that or no one really gives a hoot about it. I can understand that. I'd be watching the offense and the defense, too, if I were present instead of watching the kickers. I just don't share the opinion that we are all set at the Kicker position. If we need a 55-yarder to win a key game against the Patriots and we don't have a guy who even has a chance, then I think the position needs to be upgraded. I'm not saying the guy is a bum. He's been very consistent over the years, but he has missed some very, very clutch kicks over the past 3 seasons and he cannot be relied upon for the long kick, so I'm just saying I think some serious competition needs to be brought in and not just annual "camp fodder". Whatever -- I know -- the topic is a big YAWN.

Tim, you've attended some practices -- what can you tell us about Dan Urrego -- the kicker brought in to compete with Lindell? Does he have a stronger leg than Lindell? Does he have a legitimate chance to win a spot or is he merely camp fodder as some have suggested? Thanks.

Lindell has been fairly consistent, but he has also missed some clutch kicks. I'm more concerned about his leg strength. Kicking a 55-yarder is not even an option like it is with many other teams. I would like to see some serious competition brought in and may the best man win. I still have not heard anything about how well Urrego has kicked in practice. Does he have a stronger leg than Lindell? Is he nailing 55-yarders in practice? Is he as accurate as Lindell? The media will certainly tell us about every catch every receiver makes, but no word on the kickers at all.

Anyone heard anything about how Dan Urrego performed as a kicker during OTA's? I've not seen a word about him. Even though he has both punting and kicking experience, I see that the Buffalo Bills are listing him as a Kicker on their roster. So, I'm assuming it's going to be a competition between Dan Urrego & Rian Lindell -- unless the Bills plan on bringing anyone else in. Is Urrego also competing with Brian Moorman for the punting position?

Agree. On paper, they look excellent at the skill positions and loaded with potential in the OL -- just have to see how it works out. Bottom line is they need to win games and get an attitude -- one where they EXPECT to win.

I agree with you that the economics of WNY is what it is. A Bills SB victory won't change that significantly. Some politicians need to be hung in Lafayette Square and in Albany and taxes rolled back to attract business again and a SB victory won't change that one way or another. That said, I can see how a SB victory could increase pressure on people (or more likely, GROUPS of people -- i.e. Jim Kelly and his alleged group of interested buyers) to step up and get something done. Ultimately, it's a free market and unless Ralph sells the team now, once the bidding starts the folks with Buffalo's interests at heart may not have what it takes to keep the franchise here, but I can see how a SB victory would certainly make them give it their all and go down swinging.

So many potential scenarios -- too difficult to predict how things could play out. However, I would think that a Super Bowl victory could only help keep them in Buffalo.

"Very important" -- just like the other 15 games are. The 1st game of the season cannot be labeled "critical" -- even if it is a division opponent, but it certainly is very important. I think Buffalo loses this game, but still goes on to make the playoffs.

Agree. From Buffalo's perspective, Indy would be pretty cool because it would bring back an old division rival from days past, but I also agree that Cincy & Cleveland should be in same division, so don't think that could work.

Precisely! It sets the bar too low. Instead of victory being the ultimate goal, suddenly a "good effort" is adequate. Bottom line is there is no substitute for winning. There are no moral victories in the NFL if there's not a "W" in the Win/Loss column and Dick doesn't get that.

Thus the precise reason Buffalo should be in a division with Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and either Cincinnati or Detroit.

Agree -- like this guy, but, what if Kollar hadn't left on his own? In all likelihood, he'd still be the guy because the FO does not seem to move aggressively to replace ineffective coaches. We'd probably still have Fairchild had he not taken the Colorado job. However, it's good that things have worked out as they did in this case.
