The "McDermott Handicap" and hopefully a solution
TrentEdwardsCheckDownOn4th replied to peterpan's topic in The Stadium Wall
There doesn't appear to be any rule against it. Below is from an article after the recent rule change in 2020. These rules were put into place after belicheck manipulated the clock by intentionally taking a false start. But this was on offense. There's nothing in the rule book about manipulating the clock on defense. And how would a ref know a face Mask or hands to the face, for example, is manipulating the clock: "The change approved Thursday adds a new line that simply says that the clock will now stop if the offense commits any accepted dead-ball foul at any point during the fourth quarter or overtime: If the game clock is stopped after a down in which there was a foul by either team, following enforcement or declination of a penalty, the game clock will start as if the foul had not occurred, except that the clock will start on the snap if: (1) the foul occurs after the two-minute warning of the first half; (2) the foul occurs inside the last five minutes of the second half; or (3) the offense commits a dead-ball foul during the fourth quarter or overtime that is accepted; or (4) a specific rule prescribes otherwise." -

Ok my mistake then. I was listening to a recap of the game and the analyst said otherwise. Seems like a silly rule that could be exploited. For example, if a team picks up a first down with 1:50 seconds left and the defense has 1 timeout left the game would be over as the offense could run the clock out. Instead , if after the player gets the first down the defense commits a personal foul the clock would stop ? And now the offense could theoretically get the ball back with about 25 seconds. Mind Blown -
Who will you root for - Miami or KC?
TrentEdwardsCheckDownOn4th replied to sleeby's topic in The Stadium Wall
I know KC is having a down year but I think people picking KC over Cleveland or Houston are insane. They are the reigning super bowl champions and last I looked still have Patrick Mahomes. I like the fact that it would be in Buffalo but I'd still be very worried about past demons rearing their ugly head. My number one choice by far is CJ Stroud and the Texans in Orchard Park. Not sure they'd stand much chance. I give the steelers this week more of a chance than the Texans . I'd also take Cleveland over KC. Clevelands defense does look dominant but I'm still not sold on Flacco. Over his 5 game stretch he had 8 interceptions , that would have equated to 27 over a 17 game season, second most in the history of the league. I don't see lightning in a bottle striking twice with Flacco. -

I don't think this is being talked about enough but why did McDermott accept the defensive holding penalty with 3:04 left ? Josh Allen scrambled for a 13 yard first down to the 48 yard line. There was 3:04 left and the dolphins had 1 timeout down by 7 pts. If he declines the penalty the clock would have continued to run. At that point an extra 5 yards is not nearly as important as running an extra 40 seconds off the clock. This decision almost came back to bite us in the ass. The Dolphins started their final drive with 1:53 left on the clock vs. 1:13 if the penalty were declined. If the Dolphins scored on that final drive we would be talking about another McDermott in game miscue. -
Wild Card Weekend - Wild Card Weather
TrentEdwardsCheckDownOn4th replied to WEATHER DOT COM's topic in The Stadium Wall
This really sucks. The bills playoff home field advantage is the biggest load of BS . We saw it on full force last year against the bengals. Bad weather evens the playing field and makes games unpredictable. Now because of this crazy weather Pittsburgh has a legitimate shot at winning. If this were in a dome I'm not sure I'd give Pittsburgh much chance at all. -
Can Khalil Shakir be WR2 next season?
TrentEdwardsCheckDownOn4th replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall
Agreed. I was telling my wife the same thing. Diggs is definitely back. At this point the bills definitely have enough weapons to make a deep run. -
McDermott has earned the right
TrentEdwardsCheckDownOn4th replied to RoscoeParrish's topic in The Stadium Wall
If they lose to a TJ Watt less Mason Rudolph led Pittsburgh Steelers at home I guarantee you the narrative all off season will be whether the bills should keep McDermott. Let me be on record saying I don't think that will happen , no way they lose to Pittsburgh. I was simply stating a hypothetical "IF they Lose to Pittsburgh, I MAY want to move on from McDermott" Also, the original post is ridiculous." McDermott should stay until HE wants to leave" lmao. Even the best coach of all time is being forced out of New England , yet a guy who's never even made a super bowl can suddenly remain the bills coach until the end of time regardless of how poorly he performs here on out? -

I was definitely calling for him to leave and still will if they lose to Pittsburgh. But Even I as one of his critics can admit when I was wrong. He's put on a masterclass on how to lead a team into the playoffs over the past 5 weeks. -
Bills @ Dolphins game thread - 1st Half

Even if josh doesn't throw that ball at the players head how is that going to be completed? Coverage looked really tight. He needs to settle the F down. -
Playoffs Clinched!!
TrentEdwardsCheckDownOn4th replied to Screw Your Rules's topic in The Stadium Wall
So funny going on chiefs and dolphins message boards. They're melting down after the bills clinched a playoff spot. Miami fans because they will either have to beat the bills at home 2x in a row or go on the road to Kansas city. And kansas city because now they have to play either Miami or Houston followed by potentially Buffalo on the road. They wanted to face pittsburgh in the first round. -

If the bills win and jags lose who do we play 1st rd? -
The pro bowl snub is ridiculous but is there anyway josh can still be an all pro with a big game tonight? Lamar as the first and josh as the 2nd all pro. I'm not sure who else you could nominate for all pro? Not Tua , Josh would have beaten him twice. Josh will have almost 20 TDs more than Mahomes. The only person I could see over allen would be Dak, but Allen beat him head to head and has more TDs than him. Josh also may very well finish 2nd in MVP voting.

I think he gets fired if they lose and miss the playoffs because of in game mismanagement -

Wasn't there a week 18 game that almost finished in a tie a couple years back? I can't remember specifics but I remember a tie being significant for some reason. -
Steelers @ Ravens 4:30pm Game Thread
TrentEdwardsCheckDownOn4th replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'd mostly be worried about the rust though being off for 2 weeks is a lot. I wouldn't he surprised if a team like the Rams upset San Francsico because of the same strategy. -

The Ravens rested their starters the last week in 2019 when they alsi had the 1 seed locked up. They wound up getting trounced by Tennessee in the divisional round. Bold decision by them to try the same thing again....
